Alec Baldwin facing new charges over fatal Rust shooting

<p dir="ltr">Alec Baldwin has been charged with involuntary manslaughter for a second time over the fatal shooting of Halyna Hutchins on the set of the movie <em>Rust</em>. </p> <p dir="ltr">The Hollywood legend has been indicted by a grand jury in New Mexico over the death of the 42-year-old cinematographer, who was hit with a live bullet that had been loaded into a prop gun for a scene. </p> <p dir="ltr">“The above named defendant did cause the death of Halyna Hutchins by an act committed with the total disregard of indifference for the safety of others,” the indictment obtained by <em><a href="https://nypost.com/2024/01/19/news/alec-baldwin-charged-with-involuntary-manslaughter-over-rust-shooting/">The Post</a> </em>read.</p> <p dir="ltr">Baldwin has long denied the charges, and has stood by his claim that he did not pull the trigger on the day of the accident. </p> <p dir="ltr">Baldwin had previously been charged with the same crime by the Santa Fe district attorney in January 2022.</p> <p dir="ltr">He pleaded not guilty at the time, but the case soon fell apart and the charges were dropped in April that year after it was determined that further forensic testing needed to be done on the weapon that fired the bullet.</p> <p dir="ltr">Despite the case being dismissed, the DA was clear that the door would be left open to refile the charges.</p> <p dir="ltr">Prosecutors have also charged <em>Rust</em> armourer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, who oversaw the weapons on the movie set, with the same crime.</p> <p dir="ltr">She has also pleaded not guilty and is awaiting trial. </p> <p dir="ltr">If convicted, Baldwin could face up to 18 months in prison.</p> <p dir="ltr"><em>Image credits: Getty Images</em></p>

"Shut the f**k up": Alec Baldwin confronted by protesters

<p>Alec Baldwin has been caught in the middle of a fiery protest in New York City, which ended in him yelling profanities to aggressive protesters. </p> <p>The Hollywood actor was on his way to teach an acting class when he was surrounded by pro-Palestine protesters. </p> <p>The protesters bombarded him with questions, demanding that he make known his stance on the war in Israel, and who he supports in the conflict. </p> <p>Baldwin was being escorted by police, but found it difficult to ignore the calls of the protesters. </p> <p>“I support peace for Gaza,” he told them.</p> <p>Baldwin’s response only made the protesters more angry. Alec Baldwin charged with involuntary manslaughter over fatal Rust shooting

<p>Charges are to be made over an on-set tragedy that claimed the life of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins. </p> <p>Alec Baldwin and Hannah Gutierrez Reed will be charged with two counts of involuntary manslaughter over the tragic incident. </p> <p>In New Mexico, involuntary manslaughter carries a penalty of up to 18 months in prison, as well as a fine. The case requires prosecutors prove that Hutchins died as a result of underlying negligence, and “includes the misdemeanour charge of negligent use of a firearm.” </p> <p>Confirmation came from Mary Carmack-Altwies, Sante Fe’s district attorney, who said that the charges against Baldwin and Reed would be filed by the end of January. </p> <p>“After a thorough review of the evidence and the laws of the state of New Mexico,” said Carmack-Altqies, “I have determined that there is sufficient evidence to file criminal charges against Alec Baldwin and other members of the <em>Rust</em> film crew. On my watch, no one is above the law, and everyone deserves justice.” </p> <p>Baldwin’s attorney, however, believes the decision to be “a terrible miscarriage of justice.”</p> <p>The news comes after a year of investigation into the incident, in which a revolver Alec was using during a rehearsal for the film <em>Rust </em>fired a live round and caused a fatal wound to Hutchins. Alec Baldwin reaches secret settlement as Rust filming resumes

<p>Alec Baldwin and the family of late cinematographer Halyna Hutchins have reached an undisclosed settlement over her tragic death on the set of <em>Rust</em>. </p> <p>According to a statement released by the actor's attorney, the wrongful death lawsuit filed against Baldwin and others in the production has been settled and closed, with a portion of the profits going to Halyna's husband Matthew, who is now set to be an executive producer on the film. </p> <p>"We have reached a settlement, subject to court approval, for our wrongful death case against the producers of Rust, including Alec Baldwin and Rust Movie Productions, LLC. As part of that settlement, our case will be dismissed," Matthew Hutchins said in a statement. </p> <p>"The filming of <em>Rust</em>, which I will now executive produce, will resume with all the original principal players on board in January 2023. I have no interest in engaging in recriminations or attribution of blame (to the producers or Mr. Baldwin)."</p> <p>"All of us believe Halyna's death was a terrible accident. I am grateful that the producers and the entertainment community have come together to pay tribute to Halyna's final work."</p> <p>Alec Baldwin's attorney, Luke Nikas of Quinn Emanuel, also said in a statement, "Throughout this difficult process, everyone has maintained the specific desire to do what is best for Halyna's son."</p> <p>"We are grateful to everyone who contributed to the resolution of this tragic and painful situation."</p> <p>The film's director Joel Souza, who was also injured during the shooting, is expected to return to the film once production restarts next year. </p> <p>"In my own attempts to heal, any decision to return to finish directing the film could only make sense for me if it was done with the involvement of Matt and the Hutchins family," Souza said. </p> <p>"Though certainly bittersweet, I am pleased that together, we will now complete what Halyna and I started. <p>Alec Baldwin’s massive farmhouse in Amagansett, NY, has been listed for a huge $29 million.</p> <p>The farmhouse mansion is where the famed actor and his family spent a majority of their time during the Covid-19 pandemic. It has been speculated that Baldwin is parting ways with the home in order to make space for his growing family as wife Hilaria welcomes the couple’s 7th child.</p> <p>The Hamptons based property became one of the most popular listings online as curious clickers viewed the star’s vacation retreat.</p> <p>The property sits on 10-acres, with a 10,000 square-foot, four bedroom farmhouse sitting on it. The parcel of land and the home were purchased in 1996 for a humble $1.75 million.</p> <p>The luxe home features covered porches, two upper-level balconies and amenities including a home movie theatre, wine room and wood-panel library. <p dir="ltr">Alec Baldwin and his wife Hilaria have welcomed their seventh child. </p> <p dir="ltr">Hilaria shared the news on her Instagram, introducing their new baby girl to the world. </p> <p dir="ltr">She wrote, “She’s here! FBI findings cast doubt on Alec Baldwin's claim

<p>A recently-released FBI report has determined that Alec Baldwin could face criminal charges over the shooting of Halyna Hutchins on the set of <em>Rust</em>. </p> <p>According to <em>ABC News</em>, the gun used on the New Mexico movie set could not have been fired without the trigger being pulled.</p> <p>It means that Baldwin, who has repeatedly insisted that he did not pull the trigger, could still face criminal charges for the devastating incident which killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and wounded director Joel Souza.</p> <p>The FBI forensic report had been examining the case in great depth to see if any charges could be brought against individuals involved in the incident.</p> <p>It conducted an accidental discharge test and determined the gun used in the fatal shooting of Hutchins “could not be made to fire without a pull of the trigger,” the report stated.</p> <p>The test showed that when the 45 Colt caliber F.lli Pietta single-action revolver’s hammer was in the quarter and half-cock positions, the gun would not fire without the trigger being pulled.</p> <p>When the hammer was in the fully cocked position, the gun “could not be made to fire without a pull of the trigger while the working internal components were intact and functional,” according to the outlet.</p> <p>Despite these claims, Baldwin stated in an interview in December that he, who was in possession of the gun at the time of the shooting, did not fire the weapon. </p> <p>“The trigger wasn’t pulled,” Baldwin said. “I didn’t pull the trigger.”</p> <p><em>Image credits: Getty Images</em></p>

Family scare for Alec Baldwin

<p>Hilaria and Alec Baldwin have faced a scare in their family, as their one-year-old son was rushed to hospital. </p> <p>Hilaria broke the news on her Instagram that Eduardo was taken to a New York hospital after suffering a "very bad reaction."</p> <p>"Never a dull moment for us," she began her post. "Edu had a very bad allergic reaction today and I had to give him an epi pen. New footage of Rust shooting released

<p dir="ltr">Police have released new bodycam footage of Alec Baldwin's questioning on the Rust set after the fatal shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins in October 2021.</p> <p dir="ltr">Halyna was killed, and director Joel Souza injured, when the gun went off during rehearsals for the upcoming film <em>Rust</em> on a ranch outside of Santa Fe, New Mexico.</p> <p dir="ltr">Police asked Baldwin whether someone had any ill intention to swap out the "flash rounds" with live ones to which he said he didn’t believe so.</p> <p dir="ltr">The new video shows Baldwin asking officers to help him identify the object being removed from Souza’s shoulder.</p> <p dir="ltr">"The thing that… is going to answer all of your questions is: what's in Joel's shoulder. Is it a rock or is it a bullet?" Baldwin asked.</p> <p dir="ltr">Officers said they could show him an image of what was removed from Souza’s shoulder.</p> <p dir="ltr">"That's a bullet," Baldwin replied.</p> <p dir="ltr">"If that's a bullet that was pulled out his shoulder, then someone loaded a live round into the gun I was holding."</p> <p dir="ltr">Baldwin, who is also a producer on the film, has repeatedly denied responsibility for Halyna’s death, insisting that no live rounds should have been on set.</p> <p dir="ltr">In other videos, police and medics were seen racing to the scene, and bodycam footage shows first responders battling to save Halyna.</p> <p dir="ltr">Another video shows Baldwin dressed as a cowboy and practising with what appears to be the gun that killed the cinematographer.</p> <p dir="ltr">Santa Fe Sheriff Adan Mendoza said the investigation into the shooting "remains open and ongoing".</p> <p dir="ltr">There are currently several lawsuits filed against Baldwin following Halyna’s death, including one from her husband Matthew.</p> <p dir="ltr">Watch the footage <a href="https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-61226637" target="_blank" rel="noopener">here</a>.</p> <p dir="ltr"><em>Image: Santa Fe Police</em></p>

I was obsessed with finding it, I'm still obsessed with finding it, because I want to screenshot it.”</p> <p dir="ltr">He finished, "If you are the young woman that gave me the Splenda packet at John Pappas the other day, then send me a message here, because I was so grateful for it. It was so lovely. It meant so much to me… it meant a lot to me."</p> <p dir="ltr">The actor thanked his fans who have supported him since the tragedy, adding that he was hopeful that “the truth” would soon prevail. Alec Baldwin denies pulling trigger

<p>Alec Baldwin has said he did not pull the trigger on the gun that accidentally killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins in October.</p> <p>In a preview for his first tell-all interview since the incident, Alec Baldwin sits down with ABC's George Stephanopoulos as the journalist asks the actor if the shooting was part of the script.</p> <p><span>“Well, the trigger wasn’t pulled. I didn’t pull the trigger,” Baldwin says. </span></p> <p><span>Stephanopoulos confirms, “So you never pulled the trigger?” to which Baldwin answers, “No, no, no, no. I would never point a gun at anyone and pull a trigger at them. Baldwin film hit by yet another tragedy

Lawyers for Rust armourer claim ‘sabotage’

<p dir="ltr">Lawyers for Hannah Gutierrez Reed, the<span> </span><a rel="noopener" href="https://oversixty.com.au/finance/legal/she-s-a-rookie-rust-s-armourer-comes-under-fire" target="_blank">24-year-old armourer</a><span> </span>at the centre of the investigation into the tragedy on the set of Alec Baldwin’s film<span> </span><em>Rust,<span> </span></em>are now<span> </span><a rel="noopener" href="https://www.latimes.com/entertainment-arts/story/2021-11-03/rust-shooting-armorer-hannah-gutierrez-reed-lawyers" target="_blank">claiming</a><span> </span>their client was the victim of sabotage, and that the accident was ultimately the fault of someone else.</p> <p dir="ltr">Her lawyers have suggested that someone intentionally smuggled live rounds of ammunition into a box of dummy rounds before the<span> </span><a rel="noopener" href="https://www.oversixty.com.au/news/news/alec-baldwin-allegedly-shot-and-killed-cinematographer" target="_blank">fatal on-set shooting</a><span> </span>that killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins. Lawyer Jason Bowles made the suggestion while appearing on numerous morning news programs on Wednesday morning.</p> <p dir="ltr">On<span> </span><em>Good Morning America</em>, he asked, “Why do you place that in the box labeled ‘dummies’ that the armorer is going to be pulling from? Why would you do that other than to try to cause some incident on the set?</p> <p dir="ltr">“Now, we’re not saying anybody had any intent there was going to be a tragedy — a homicide — but they wanted to do something to cause a safety incident on set. That’s what we believe happened.”</p> <p dir="ltr">When GMA anchor Michael Strahan pressed him for evidence to support this serious allegation, Bowles simply asserted that his client did not place the live round that was ultimately responsible for Hutchins’ death in the ammunition box.</p> <p dir="ltr">“We know the live rounds shouldn’t have been in that box, but they were,” he said. “So there can be very, very few explanations for why live rounds end up in a box of dummy prop ammunition on a movie set. And one of them is that somebody wants that to go into a firearm and then wants there to be an incident on the set. There’s no other reason to mix a live round with the dummies. There’s just none.”</p> <p dir="ltr">After presenting the same argument on<span> </span><em>Today<span> </span></em>and being asked by host Savannah Guthrie why anyone would “have the motive and opportunity” to sabotage the ammunition in this way, Bowles said, “I believe that somebody who would do that would want to ... prove a point, want to say that they’re disgruntled.</p> <p dir="ltr">“And we know that people had already walked off the set the day before. ... And the reason they were unhappy is they’re working 12- to 14-hour days. They were not given hotel rooms in and around the area. So they had to drive back and forth an hour to Albuquerque, and they’re unhappy.”</p> <p dir="ltr">This is a reference to the fact that the camera crew had staged a walkout before the incident, fed up with unreasonable working conditions and amidst a push within Hollywood to improve working conditions for film and television crews.</p> <p dir="ltr">Guthrie then asked Bowles if he was accusing the crew members who had walked out of planting the live ammunition, to which he said, “You can’t rule anybody out at this point. We know there was a live round in a box of dummy rounds that shouldn’t have been there… there was opportunity to tamper with the scene. “You should know her name”: Alec Baldwin’s wife blasts paparazzi

<p>Alec Baldwin and his wife Hilaria have spoken out about the shooting of Halyna Hutchins in a fiery exchange with paparazzi.</p> <p>The 63-year-old actor spoke to a group of local media on Saturday while staying in Vermont, which quickly turned into a very tense conversation. </p> <p>Alec said he was unable to give any details on the ongoing investigation into Halyna's death, citing instructions from the Santa Fe Country Sheriff’s Office, but he did speak about his relationship with the cinematographer.</p> <p>“It’s an active investigation in terms of a woman dying,” he said.</p> <p>“She was my friend. The day I arrived on set and started shooting I took her to dinner with Joel, the director."</p> <p>“We were a very, very well-oiled crew shooting a film together and then this horrible event happened.”</p> <p>One of the paparazzi began to ask Alec about the meeting he had with Halyna's husband and son, but forgot her name while phrasing the question. </p> <p>This action sparked a furious response from Baldwin's wife Hilaria. </p> <p>“Halyna, her name is Halyna,” she said.</p> <p>“If you are spending this much time waiting for us you should know her name.”</p> <p>“You don’t know her name?” said Baldwin, before confirming he had met with Ms Hutchins’ husband Matthew and her nine-year-old son.</p> <p>“I wouldn’t know how to characterise it. They’re mortified,” he said.</p> <p>Hilaria interrupted again, saying, “You guys, you guys. You know what, no details.”</p> <p>Alec then turned to her and said, “Do me a favour, I am going to answer the questions.”</p> <p>After a few more questions, Baldwin asks the paparazzi to leave him alone, saying "my kids are in the car crying".</p> <p>“As a courtesy I came to talk to you. I am not allowed to comment on the investigation, I talk to the cops every day,” he said.</p> <p>“We sat down as a courtesy to talk to you, now please, would you just stop following us. Just leave us alone. We were moving too fast. She’s a rookie,” he </span><a rel="noopener" href="https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-10134763/Rust-armorer-subject-numerous-complaints-previous-film-infuriated-star-Nicolas-Cage.html" target="_blank"><span style="font-weight: 400;">said</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;">.</span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">He also argued that Ms Gutierrez-Reed should have had additional help on both </span><em><span style="font-weight: 400;">The Old Way</span></em><span style="font-weight: 400;"> and </span><em><span style="font-weight: 400;">Rust</span></em><span style="font-weight: 400;">.</span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“I would have had minimum two more people. She was doing everything by herself in that movie and on the other movie (</span><em><span style="font-weight: 400;">Rust</span></em><span style="font-weight: 400;">),” he said. “If there was one more person in the other movie the tragedy wouldn’t have happened.”</span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Two anonymous sources also told </span><em><span style="font-weight: 400;">The Daily Beast</span></em><span style="font-weight: 400;"> that Ms Gutierrez-Reed about worrisome gun safety issues on the set. According to the sources, the armourer gave a gun to child actress Ryan Kiera Armstrong without properly checking the weapon first and was “a bit careless with the guns”.</span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“There were a couple of times she was loading the blanks and doing it in a fashion that we thought was unsafe,” one source added.</span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">However, Jeffrey W. “Change needs to happen”: Baldwin tragedy sparks reform

New details emerge in Baldwin shooting tragedy

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">New details surrounding the <a rel="noopener" href="https://www.oversixty.co.nz/news/news/alec-baldwin-allegedly-shot-and-killed-cinematographer" target="_blank">fatal accident</a> on the set of </span><em><span style="font-weight: 400;">Rust</span></em><span style="font-weight: 400;"> have been released by officials, including the fact that star actor Alec Baldwin fired a live lead bullet.</span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The incident on-set claimed the life of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and resulted in the injury of filmmaker Joel Souza.</span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The new information was revealed during a news conference held by Santa Fe County Sheriff Adan Mendoza and district attorney Mary Carmack-Altwies, and via an affidavit filed by the sheriff’s department.</span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Sheriff Mendoza said the lead projectile they believe killed Hutchins was recovered from Mr Souza’s shoulder, and belonged to a .45 calibre Pietta Long Colt revolver.</span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“We believe that we have, in our possession, the firearm that was fired by Mr Baldwin. Image: Getty Images</span></em></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Sheriff Mendoza also said that about 600 items of evidence had been recovered from the set, including three firearms and approximately 500 rounds of ammunition that included blanks and dummy rounds.</span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Two of the guns were non-functional, while the third was the Colt revolver used by Mr Baldwin.</span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">It was also revealed that the gun used on set was not thoroughly checked before being given to Mr Baldwin.</span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The actor was told the gun was “cold”, meaning it was safe to use and contained no ammunition, and was pointing the gun at the camera when it discharged, hitting Ms Hutchins in the torso.</span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">According to the affidavit, the film’s armourer, Hannah Gutierrez, told investigators she had checked guns before the incident but found no “hot rounds” - referring to live ammunition.</span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The affidavit also showed that Ms Gutierrez said ammunition wasn’t secured on set during a lunch break before the incident, but that firearms were kept in a safe during the break and there was no live ammunition ever kept on a movie set.</span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">She said “only a few people” had access to the safe and knew the combination to open it.</span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Dave Halls, the assistant director, also told investigators he “should have checked all” the rounds in the gun before handing it to Mr Baldwin but hadn’t, according to the affidavit.</span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">According to the </span><em><a rel="noopener" href="https://www.bbc.com/news/entertainment-arts-59055138" target="_blank"><span style="font-weight: 400;">BBC</span></a></em><span style="font-weight: 400;">, Mr Halls had previously been fired from a production over gun safety violations which resulted in the minor injury of a crew member. </span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">However, Ms Carmack-Altwies said “no one has been ruled out at this point” in regards to potential criminal charges.</span></p> <p><img style="width: 500px; height: 281.25px;" src="https://oversixtydev.blob.core.windows.net/media/7845152/baldwin2.jpg" alt="" data-udi="umb://media/fc36683ff8924cdf9f368ea22d921aa9" /></p> <p><em><span style="font-weight: 400;">Locals held a vigil for Ms Hutchins in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Image: Getty Images</span></em></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“It is a very complex case,” she said.</span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“It will take many more facts, corroborated facts, before we get to that criminal negligence standard.”</span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">When asked about the use of real weapons on film sets, Sheriff Mendoza said: “I think the industry has had a record recently of being safe.</span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“I think there was some complacency on this set,” he continued.</span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“And I think there are some safety issues that need to be addressed by the industry and possibly by the state of New Mexico.”</span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Investigators said they were also following up on reports of target practice taking place on or near the set.</span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“Any time a firearm is around or about, safety is paramount,” Sheriff Mendoza said.</span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Camera operators had also walked off the set prior to the incident in protest against the working conditions.</span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“I think the facts are clear, the weapon was handed to Mr Baldwin. The movie’s director was injured too.</p> <p>Trump Jr’s merchandise platform also sells shirts that read “My God, My Family, My Guns &amp; My Freedom.”</p> <p>The 43-year-old is a vocal gun advocate who frequently poses with firearms and posts photos of animals he’s killed. Last year, he hosted an Alaskan hunting trip to raise money for Safari Club International.</p> <p>Other right-wing pundits also teed up on the Baldwin hunt after Hutchin’s death. Commentator Candace Owens accused Baldwin of the “murder” of “innocent people”, which she later corrected.</p> <p>Republican lawmaker Lauren Boebert and Republican Senate Candidate JD Vance took to Twitter to mock Baldwin, with the latter asking that the former president be reinstated on Twitter so he could address his former tormentor.</p> <p>These comments drew fire from his Democratic rival in Ohio, Tim Ryan, who tweeted “Someone died, you a-hole.”</p> <p>Even Fox News host Janice Dean urged Vance to take down his tweet.</p> <p>Baldwin's impression of former president Donald Trump on SNL angered Trump, who questioned the long-running program's legality in a 2018 Twitter rant about "unfair news coverage".</p> <p>Trump and Baldwin feuded on Twitter in March of that year with the 45th president claiming the actor's "dying mediocre career" was revived by his impersonation of the commander in chief. Trump was banned from the platform following the January 6 insurrection at the Capitol.</p> <p>Baldwin tweeted his feelings of "shock and sadness" following Thursday’s shooting and said he was cooperating with investigators. He had reportedly been told the firearms was "cold".</p> <p>According to a new affidavit, Baldwin was training his pistol on a camera when the shot was fired from his gun. Joel Souza, the<em><span> </span>Rust</em><span> </span>director, reportedly claimed Baldwin was rehearsing a "cross draw" at the time of the killing. The filmmaker said he was looking over Hutchins' shoulder and heard "a whip and then loud pop" before the two of them were struck.</p> <p>Hilaria Baldwin, the 63-year-old actor's wife, tweeted her sympathies for Hutchins, her family and her own husband as well.</p> <p>"My heart is with Halyna," she wrote Monday on Instagram.</p>

<p dir="ltr">Court documents containing previously unreleased statements from witnesses to the accidental fatal shooting of Halyna Hutchins have been released<em>,</em><span> </span>painting a tragic picture of the cinematographer’s final moments.</p> <p dir="ltr">They contain statements from director Joel Souza and a cameraman, and were released on Monday by the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office. Speaking to the<span> </span><em>New York Times,<span> </span></em>a spokesperson for the sheriff’s office said, “Detectives entered the movie set today and continue to interview potential witnesses. Apparently there were quite a few people at the scene of what happened.”</p> <p dir="ltr">The court documents reveal that moments before the accident, the cast and crew had taken a lunch break before returning to set. The last photo with 42-year-old Hutchins on set was shared by the film’s chief electrician, and shows Alec Baldwin inside a small church, surrounded by cast and crew. According to the documents, they were rehearsing a scene that involved a prop revolver.</p> <p><iframe src="https://www.facebook.com/plugins/post.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Fsergey.svetnoy%2Fposts%2F7116559675036104&amp;show_text=false&amp;width=500" width="500" height="281" style="border: none; overflow: hidden;" scrolling="no" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen="true" allow="autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; picture-in-picture; web-share"></iframe></p> <p dir="ltr">Baldwin was “practising” and drawing the revolver across his body, pointing it “towards the camera lens”, when it was fired and struck Hutchins in the chest. The documents, presenting Souza’s recollection of events, read, “Joel stated that they had Alec sitting in a pew in a church building setting, and he was practising a cross draw. Joel said he was looking over the shoulder of Halyna, when he heard what sounded like a whip and then loud pop.</p> <p dir="ltr">“Joel then vaguely remembers [Hutchins] complaining about her stomach and grabbing her midsection. Joel also said [Hutchins] began to stumble backwards and she was assisted to the ground.</p> <p dir="ltr">“Joel explained that he was bleeding from his shoulder and he could see blood on Halyna.”</p> <p dir="ltr">According to cameraman Reid Russell, Baldwin had been handed the gun by the film’s assistant director, Dave Halls, and was told it was unloaded. He fired after Halls yelled, “Cold gun”. Souza told directors that he wasn’t sure if the gun had been checked since the cast and crew had returned from their break. Russell added that Baldwin had been “very careful”.</p> <p dir="ltr">Chief electrician Serge Svetnoy shared his version of the accident in a devastating Facebook post, writing, “I was standing shoulder-to-shoulder with Halyna during this fatal shot that took her life and injured the director Joel Souza. I was holding her in my arms while she was dying. Her blood was on my hands.”</p> <p dir="ltr">He went on to cite negligence as the cause of the accident: “The negligence from the person who was supposed to check the weapon on the site did not do this; the person who had to announce that the loaded gun was on the site did not do this; the person who should have checked this weapon before bringing it to the set did not do it. And the DEATH OF THE HUMAN IS THE RESULT!”</p> <p dir="ltr">In the post, Svetnoy places the blame on the film’s armourer, arguing that there is “no way” a 24-year-old woman can be “a professional with armory”, “there is no way that her more-or-less the same-aged friend from school, neighborhood, Instagram, or God knows where else, can be a professional in this field.” The armourer has shut down her social media accounts.</p> <p dir="ltr"><em>Image: Fred Hayes/Getty Images for SAGindie, Mark Sagliocco/Getty Images for National Geographic</em></p>
