Crowd goes nuts as man learns he's a dad on the big screen

Image: Youtube

A new dad-to-be has been given the surprise of his life while attending a basketball game – and as far as pregnancy announcements go – this is up there with one of the best we've seen.

The Orlando Magic fan was happily watching the big game with his partner when the ‘kiss cam’ panned across to them during a break.

The man and his partner looked suitably delighted at the attention – but something about the woman's behaviour was not quite right. Almost as though she knew something ELSE was about to happen.

Sure enough, as the camera lingered on the couple, a special message appeared along the bottom of the screen: ‘Congrats James! You are you going to be a dad’.

At first James did not notice the message – but slowly it became apparent that the rest of the crowd certainly had, as the cheering swelled to a giant crescendo.

Then the magic moment arrived: the dad-to-be finally looked a little closer at the big screen, took a second or two to comprehend what he was reading, and was then completely overcome with shock, surprise and pure joy. His reaction will be preserved forever for the young family, and it really was a tremendous one.

Sadly, James’ team lost the game – going down to the Charlotte Hornets 106-99. But there's no question that he went home a happy man regardless, with a story he will be able to share for many years to come.

Prince Harry gushes over baby Archie: “Can’t imagine life” without him

Prince Harry has revealed what life as a father has been like since the arrival of his first-born Archie.

The Duke of Sussex paid a visit to local residents at the Barton Neighbourhood Centre in Oxford, where he said that he can’t imagine a life without his son.

The 34-year-old was met with plenty of well-wishers, all eager to know more about the newborn.

Speaking to Hello!, Mrs Sheikh said that she asked the Prince about his son.

“I asked him how Archie was, and he said he is doing well,” she said. “I asked him if Meghan was well and he said, ‘Yes, she is fine.'”

Others were told of the sleepless nights he was facing from Harry himself.

View this post on Instagram

Today, The Duke of Sussex visited Oxford to highlight the positive work being done in the city for young children, disabled people and the community at large. The Duke started his day meeting young patients at the Oxford Children’s Hospital. In 2016 at the @WellChild Awards, The Duke promised awardee Mikayla Beames he would visit her at hospital. Today, HRH was able to fulfill that promise and spend time with Mikayla and other patients and their families, along with the some of the extraordinary staff and teachers in the Hospital School who are on hand to support the young patients as they continue their studies whilst in hospital. Afterwards, The Duke of Sussex, in celebration of its 30th year, re-opened the OXSRAD Disability Sports and Leisure Centre, a facility first opened by his mother, Diana Princess of Wales in 1989. His Royal Highness felt honoured to pay tribute to her work and meet some of the people his mother met 30 years ago. This centre supports people with disabilities through sport and physical exercise – an area The Duke is particularly passionate about. HRH has seen the transformative effect sports, teamwork and exercise can have on people, not just physically but also for their mental fitness. The Duke’s final stop was at Barton Neighbourhood Centre to see the work of Thrive Teams, an initiative that supports at risk youth with access to education and employment. The Barton Centre includes a cafe, doctor’s office, sports hall, local police centre and food bank. The team there save nearly one tonne of food per day from being wasted and whip up some incredible meals for those that can’t afford to sustain themselves. Serving as a hub for this close-knit community, where 1 in 4 grow up in child poverty, this centre truly is a lifeline for its roughly 5,000 residents, but also an example of what can be achieved when we all come together.

A post shared by The Duke and Duchess of Sussex (@sussexroyal) on May 14, 2019 at 8:23am PDT

When presented with posters from school children, the royal said that he looks forward to reading them at “4 o’clock in the morning” when his son is wide awake.

The Duke also took a trip to Oxford Children’s Hospital and spoke to Amy Scullard, a mother-of-two, who was cradling her 10-week-old daughter.

Presumably looking for advice from someone experienced, Harry had asked if her daughter was over her grumpy period which occurs throughout the first 10 weeks.

“He said he’s getting used to the baby and how Archie has fitted into family life,” said Ms Scullard. “He said he just feels part of the family and he can’t imagine life without his son.”

Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor was born on May 6.

The heartfelt way Anthony Bourdain’s daughter paid tribute to her dad

Prince William: "Fatherhood made me more emotional"

Prince William says that being a father has made him "more emotional" and more prone to welling up.

In an interview with ITV, the 33-year-old father of two-year-old Prince George and eight-month-old Princess Charlotte said becoming a parent has made him more aware of "how precious life is."

"I'm a lot more emotional than I used to be, weirdly. I never used to get too wound up or worried about things," he told a documentary crew.

"But now the smallest little things, you well up a little more, you get affected by the sort of things that happen around the world or whatever a lot more, I think, as a father.

"Just because you realise how precious life is and it puts it all in perspective. The idea of not being around to see your children grow up and stuff like that."

The documentary, When Ant And Dec Met The Prince: 40 Years Of The Prince's Trust, focuses on William's father, Prince Charles, and his youth trust, set up in 1976.

In the documentary, William and his brother Prince Harry praise the "insurmountable amount of duty" in their dad.

It was believed to be the first time Prince Charles' wife Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, had granted a televised interview.

She told the interviewers: "I'm really proud to be married to somebody who, 40 years ago, aged 27, had the vision to put [the trust] together - I mean, it was an incredible idea then."

"For somebody - he was very young then - to think of it and to think of these very disadvantaged young people who had literally been to hell and back and to find a way to give them a second chance in life ... He cares so much about these young people."

First appeared on Stuff.co.nz.

Related links:

Champagne helps prevent dementia and Alzheimer’s

Spot the panda hidden in this vintage school photo

Watch this mother panda deal with her baby panda who is out way past his bedtime
