90-year-old grandma's secrets, regrets and brutal "advice"

An amazingly sprightly 90-year-old grandmother has appeared on TikTok to share her deepest regrets in life, leaving viewers both amused and contemplative with her surprising take on being a nonagenarian.

The video, which has garnered a whopping 70,000 views, features the wise words of wisdom from a woman who has seen it all, or at least enough to make her wish she hadn't seen quite so much.

The nanna, who spilled the beans to her inquisitive granddaughter Rachel Dillon – an online fitness coach – began by revealing what she wishes she did less of in her life.

"Probably less of nothing," she admits. "I mean I never worked after I was married or anything like that. I wish I had probably done more mixing with people with that. More socialising."

It's then that the truth bombs really start to drop. When Rachel asks, "Do you have any regrets", a cloud of laughter fills the room, before the answer comes.

"Yes, I do regret marrying too young," she says emphatically. "I met my husband when I was 13 and he was 15. We got married at 17 and 19. I met him at the library. He used to ride me up on the bicycle when I was going to the library."

Then, when asked about the secret to turning 90, Rachel's grandma confesses not only that there isn't one, but that she regrets having made it this far at all.

"I didn't really want to get to 90," she declares with the nonchalance of someone choosing between tea and coffee. "I've had enough. I've had all I wanted out of the world. I am quite happy to go and meet my little puppy dog waiting there for me."

When asked about her secret to looking so young, Rachel's grandma almost brushes the question aside, laying the blame simply in the quality of her genes for having "always been a fox", according to Rachel.

The final question, and the final brutally honest response – which may have made Rachel regret asking about regrets – was simply: "Do you have any advice for us?"

"Oh God no," comes the world-weary answer. "Not the way the world's going. No, I'm just glad I'll be gone. I don't want to be part of anything that I can see going on."

TikTok users were quick to commend the grandmother, not just for her unexpected revelations but also for her timeless beauty. "She looks absolutely amazing," gushed one admirer, proving that age is just a number – albeit one that sometimes takes us by surprise.

In the end, this nonagenarian nanna has become an unexpected sensation, leaving us all to ponder life's mysteries, library love stories, and the prospect of meeting puppy dogs in the great beyond.

If her story has taught us anything, it's that life is unpredictable, love can blossom in the unlikeliest of places (like a library), and sometimes it's OK to regret that hasty decision to say "I do" before you even knew how to do your taxes.

Images: TikTok / @racheljdillon

Restaurant's "brutal" note divides customers

A restaurant has come under fire for their "brutal" note to difficult patrons, encouraging "privileged" customers who wish to "customise or modify" their menu, to stay home instead.

A sign posted to the restaurant's front door urged customers with allergies to eat elsewhere as staff simply cannot "provide the service they require".

While some applauded the restaurant's no-nonsense stance, others were shocked by the "rude and disgusting" message.

"No means no. Are you one of the small group of people who have been living and entitled and privileged life?" The sign reads.

"Maybe your mother has taken the onions out of your salad, put the dressing on the side, or substitute your vegetables. Here, however, all meals are served precisely the way we prepare them. We do not offer custom meals."

"Remember, we are not your mother and we are definitely not genies that will make your every wish come true."

Chef Jozef and restaurant owner Nathalie listed alternative choices for the "privileged" few including hiring a private chef, cooking for themselves "precisely the way you like", trying another establishment or accept their hospitality as it is offered.

"We have been cooking for almost 50 years. We have many kind, friendly people, acquaintances and families that have been coming for many decades," they wrote.

"So look around, it is a pleasure to see their happy smiles and provide them with our best food possible."

The message also called out those with allergies and food sensitivities, encouraging them to take their business elsewhere.

"It is simply not possible to guarantee each product used in this kitchen. Furthermore, we do not have the qualifications to provide you with the service you require," they said.

The strongly worded sign caught the attention of many online, with some praising the restauranteurs as "honest" and "brilliant".

"Amen, the public is not always right. And actually most of the time they're not. This establishment is well within their right to post this," one person commented.

"You know from the very start how things are. It's one restaurant. If you don't like it, there are so many others you can go to instead... No need to have a sook. Just go elsewhere. Some of us would enjoy a restaurant like this," a second pointed out.

Despite some support for the restaurant's honesty, others were taken aback with lots of people criticising the hard-line stance for being "snarky" and "rude".

One disgruntled person commented, "If you are not able or willing to provide what your guests need or even give service, it might seem better to be honest but this message is rude and disgusting. Don't seek employment in service roles and then complain."

Image credits: Getty Images / Facebook

Brutalism is back with a luxury twist

Known for bold lines, stark colours and minimalist designs, brutalism has come back into the fore, this time with some added luxury.

Though the hallmarks of the controversial architectural trend remain - think clean lines, a colour scheme featuring grey, and concrete as a material of choice - this new iteration emphases beauty and comfort.

"We call this look Brutal Beauty - it celebrates the popular architectural and interior aesthetic of Brutalism, but in a more inviting and appealing way," Heather Nette King, an interior stylist and style ambassador for Carpet Court, explains.

"Designers and architects are putting a contemporary spin on the Brutalist aesthetic by using raw concrete in new and inventive ways – think kitchen islands, furniture, benchtops, cabinetry and even home accessories. And they’re introducing contrasting materials, such as beautiful, textured fabrics and luxurious metallics, to add softness and elegance.

“It’s a celebration of contrasts, resulting in homes that speak of minimalism, yet feel refined, sophisticated and supremely comfortable."

The revived trend of Brutalism, known as Brutal Beauty, features raw concrete, minimalist design, and luxurious accents. Image: Carpet Court

Using raw concrete as a primary design element has surged in recent years according to King, appearing in new builds and extensions across the country.

"It speaks of strength, authenticity and our growing desire to live more simply – the idea of building once and building well," she adds.

“As a look, Brutal Beauty works particularly well in new dwellings or contemporary renovations where architectural ornamentation is quite minimal."

If you're thinking of incorporating some aspects of Brutal Beauty into your home, Nette King has four top tips to help you out.

Rein in the colours

When it comes to Brutalism and colour, a minimal selection is best. Nette King recommends setting the mood of your home with layers and light and dark greys across your flooring and upholstery, accented with bold black art and accessories.

To keep your spaces feeling open and bright, she suggests using white on your walls and ceilings.

Opt for furniture with strong, sculptured lines

Brutalism is all about defined lines and minimalism, which you can embrace with minimalist seating and coffee and dining tables with simple, curved lines.

Bold artworks, a limited colour palette and furniture with simple, curved lines are hallmarks of Brutal Beauty. Nette King suggests furnishing your spaces with deep-seated sofas, upholstered bedheads and tactile bedlinen to emphasise the sense of luxury.

Add warmth with timber

With critics of Brutalism describing its limited colour scheme as cold, selecting cabinetry or furniture featuring rich timber tones, such as walnut, can help you avoid this and create some cosiness in your home.

Images: Carpet Court

"Arrogant" Prince Harry's brutal royal snub

In a brand new tell-all interview, Prince Harry has snubbed the Queen and the royal family several times.

While in The Netherlands for the Invictus Games, the Duke of Sussex sat down for an exclusive interview on US television.

Harry opened up about his "special relationship" with the Queen, and admitted to missing his family while living in the states.

However, he appears to have also snubbed his family five times with some off-handed comments throughout the interview.

Here's how.

Uncertainly over the Jubilee

Prince Harry refused to say whether he would be returning to the UK in order to celebrate the Queen's Platinum Jubilee in June, which will honour her 70 years on the throne.

Instead, he said making the trip would be difficult due to his ongoing disagreements with the UK government over his security.

When asked whether he will return to the UK for the celebrations, Harry said, “I don’t know if I’ll come. There are lots of issues with security and everything else.”

Missing Lilibet

Harry told US journalist Hoda Kotb that the Queen hasn't met his daughter Lilibet yet, despite him visiting the UK twice since she was born.

But with his uncertainty around returning for the jubilee, it is unlikely Her Majesty will get to meet her namesake any time soon.

Harry said, “I’m trying to do everything to make sure my kids can meet her.”

His new home in America

Two years after leaving the UK to relocate to America, Prince Harry seems to have firmly cemented himself in the States.

He praised his neighbours in the Montecito area of Santa Barbara in California for welcoming his family.

Harry said, “Home for me now, for the time being, is in the States and it feels that way as well."

“We’ve been welcomed with open arms and we have such a great community up in Santa Barbara.”

His "special relationship" with the Queen

During the interview, Harry gushed over his "special relationship" with his grandmother.

He said she is able to open up with him as a confidant, which gives her "peace".

Harry said, “We have a really special relationship."

“We talk about things that she can’t talk about with anybody else, so that is always a nice peace to her.”

Protective grandson

The Duke reveals that he wants the "right people" around the Queen, as his strained relationship with other members of the royal family continues.

He said, “Being with her, it was great. It was just so nice to see her. You know, she’s on great form."

“She has always got a great sense of humour with me and I’m just making sure she’s protected and has got the right people around her.”

Royal experts branded his misguided remark a “gross insult” to his family that showed his “arrogance”.

Author Angela Levin remarked, “His comment on US TV is a gross insult to all the royal family, the royal doctors and all the aides around HM. His arrogance knows no bounds.”

A man has been praised online for his brutally honest advertisement for a roommate, in which he laid out some very specific ground rules for potential tenants.

The man from Perth posted the ad on the Perth Buy And Sell Western Australia Facebook group, stating he “really really didn’t want a housemate” but needed someone to share the rent so he could “save for a motorbike”.

He went on to list the many traits he wanted in his future housemate, which included someone who smokes outside, “no paedophiles” and a preferably introverted roommate who largely kept to themselves.

“I really really don’t want a housemate, especially someone who talks too much or who has lots of visitors,” he wrote.

“Prefer someone who just wants to use the room to set up a lan for computer hacking 9-5 or FIFO workers 4/1.”

“No eye contact or boring ‘polite’ casual conversations.”

On offer in the home was one large room with high ceilings, unlimited internet, with access to a large contained backyard complete with a lemon and orange tree, with the rent also enticingly priced at $165 a week.

He also went on to say the prospective roommate could grow marijuana or magic mushrooms in the backyard but only “if you share”.

The man who shared the ad has been praised online for being “refreshingly honest” and upfront, with many commenters appreciating his transparency.

“Best room to rent ad ever. Expectations and boundaries laid upfront,” one woman wrote.

It is as yet unclear if the man has found a roommate that meets his list of demands to move in with him – but we sure hope so.

Image credits: Getty Images / Facebook

Woman brutally dumped after donating an organ to her partner

Image: TikTok

Donating a kidney to somebody in need is not an easy decision. But when a young woman named Colleen had the chance to change her boyfriend’s life six years ago, she didn’t think twice about donating the vital organ.

In a series of viral videos, the TikTok star explained how she made the decision to have the procedure to save his life according to The Sun.

When they first got together, Colleen said her boyfriend had been upfront about how he’d been struggling with chronic kidney disease since the age of 17. This meant he had to be on dialysis and his kidneys functioned at just 5% at average capacity.

She explained: “I decided to get tested to see if we were a match because I didn’t want to watch him die.” Luckily for the couple, the surgeries went well and both parties recovered.

But while you’d naturally assume the man would be eternally grateful to his girlfriend for what she did for him, he then cheated on her seven months later.

In a follow-up video, Colleen explained how her ex-boyfriend told her he was going to Las Vegas for a bachelor party with some guys in his church. At the time, the TikToker was in a busy exam period and trusted her boyfriend completely so didn’t think anything of it.

Until he turned up on her doorstep and confessed to cheating.

“A lot of arguments later, I eventually forgave him and gave him a second chance,” she said. However, three months later the now ex brutally dumped Colleen over the phone.

She claims he said: “If we are meant for each other, God will bring us back together in the end.”

Unfortunately, the break-up only got messier from there, when her ex told her: “You only donated your kidney to look good”.

Tennis fans slam Dylan Alcott's brutal snub

Aussie wheelchair tennis star Dylan Alcott was ecstatic to be playing in prime time on Rod Laver Arena on Wednesday night - until he wasn't.

Alcott won his seventh straight Australian Open quad singles crown by beating Dutchman Sam Schroder 6-1 6-0 in the final, but Rafael Nadal and Stefanos Tsitsipas didn't exactly help him out.

Alcott was expected to arrive on centre court after Nadal and Tsitsipas' quarter-final, which started at 7.30pm. But the match went on longer than expected forcing organises to shift Alcott and Schroder off Rod Laver Arena and onto Margaret Court Arena instead.

Both players arrived on court at around 11.15 pm which meant the game took place when most Aussie fans were fast asleep.

While Alcott is not one to complain, he did express his disappointment that his match wasn't scheduled for prime time as promised.

Before the schedule change was announced, many fans on social media were already complaining about putting Alcott’s final on after a match that had every chance of going to five sets.

The criticism kept coming after Australian Open officials made their crunch call.

Journalist Rachel Riley tweeted: “Disappointed I won’t get to see @DylanAlcott play tonight because it’s on so late. An Aussie champion playing in the final of the #AusOpen should be prime time to entertain/inspire so many. Take nothing away from the game on now. Just want to see the best of all abilities.

“Should have been playing at the same time, prime time, on a different court, broadcast on other 9 channel. Disappointing for fans and surely players too.”

AFL reporter Tom Browne tweeted: “Sending Alcott out at 11.13 pm is so strange.”

Tennis writer Ben Rothenberg wrote: “Bummer to move the quad final to MCA ... would have preferred it got delayed to another day, especially with fans arriving tomorrow.”

Damien Peck added: “Obviously no one can foresee a 5 set match beforehand, but Alcott should be livid that it’s not being played in Australian prime time.”

Jake Bozinovski said: “What a pathetic decision for @TennisAustralia to reschedule tonight’s Dylan Alcott’s game to be played at Margaret Court Arena, it should’ve been for tomorrow so the fans could be there to witness the final, absolutely disgraceful.”

Even though hitting the court for his singles final so late probably wasn’t his ideal scenario, Alcott knows he’s lucky to be playing at all.

“We are so lucky to be playing tennis at the moment,” he said on Tuesday. “We aren’t taking that opportunity for granted.

“I feel very grateful to be here. When other people can’t do their jobs, have lost loved ones, lost their jobs, can’t travel, are in lockdown … when you are grateful for the moment, I think you can relax.

“Win, lose or draw, who cares. I’m just lucky to be here. I’m thinking like that.”

Media outlet’s savage response to Meghan and Harry’s brutal letter

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex told a number of British tabloids on Sunday that they would never deal with their outlets again, and on Tuesday, The Sun’s editor issued a brutal response.

The royals sent a letter to the editors of The Sun, Daily Mail, Mirror and Express where they wrote they would no longer respond to any questions or inquires made by journalists working for the outlets.

Instead, they both said they would employ a policy of “zero engagement” with the tabloids, except through their lawyers.

The representative who sent the message on behalf of the couple said they refused to “offer themselves up as currency for an economy of clickbait and distortion” and accused the outlets of running stories that are “distorted, false, or invasive beyond reason”.

It is just a new log in the ever fiery battle between the Sussexes and the British media.

The Sun’s Executive Editor Dan Wootton did not take the brutal letter lying down however and published an opinion piece where he said the ex-royals chose to “put their lifestyle before family or country” and need to cease “pathetic fights” and instead focus on different issues.

“Harry and Meghan’s decision to flee to a sunny Californian mansion – on a carbon emitting private jet, of course – showed that their character is based on a desire to put their own lifestyle first before their family or country,” Wootton wrote in a brutal response to the couple.

The tabloid editor went on to discuss Prince Harry’s claim that the British media was “lying” about how serious the coronavirus was in the UK.

The royal told the podcast Declassified: “I think what has happened especially in the UK is the very best of the human spirit and it's proving that things are better than we are led to believe through certain corners of the media.

“Certainly when you're in isolation it can be very worrying when you're sitting there and the only information you're getting is from certain news channels, but then if you're out and about and you're on the right platforms you can really sense this human spirit coming to the forefront.”

Wootton criticised Prince Harry by writing the royal lived over “9,000km away in a luxury Hollywood mansion” and that as a “former senior member” he has virtually “no access” to government information to support his claims.

“He has no qualifications or expertise whatsoever to comment on the severity of a pandemic,” the journalist went on to say.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex announced their intention to withdraw from their position as senior royals in January. On April 1, the couple ceased using their HRH titles and currently reside in sunny Los Angeles.

“They must pay!”: Donald Trump delivers brutal message to Prince Harry and Meghan as they move to the US

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have fired back at President Donald Trump after he tweeted that the United States will not pay for the couple’s security on Sunday.

A spokesman for the pair said they “had no plans to ask the US” and added that “privately funded security arrangements have been made”.

The sudden response came shortly after Trump said the couple should foot the bill for their bodyguards now they have moved across the border from Vancouver.

In a tweet on Sunday, Trump said: “I am a great friend and admirer of the Queen & the United Kingdom. It was reported that Harry and Meghan, who left the Kingdom, would reside permanently in Canada. Now they have left Canada for the U.S. however, the U.S. will not pay for their security protection. Hundreds of koalas brutally murdered during routine logging

WARNING: GRAPHIC IMAGES

A few hundred of perhaps Australia’s most beloved animal, koalas, have reportedly been murdered in Victoria this week.

Animals Australia has shared devastating images of injured and dead koalas who were “mowed down” after logging occurred 12km west of Portland.

On becoming aware of this situation on Friday, we flew in a veterinary team from @Vets_Compassion. Brutal killing of a beloved kookaburra deemed not to be an offence by RSPCA

A pub-goer has shocked fellow patrons by allegedly ripping the head off a beloved kookaburra named Kevin in an overly aggressive reaction to the bird taking some chips.

The man, in his 40s, was dining at Parkerville Tavern when he reportedly became so enraged that he grabbed Kevin, tore him apart from the neck and threw him on the ground.

According to Perth Now, a woman named Chantelle was nearby with her eight and ten year old children when the incident occurred.

“Kevin had flown down onto this bloke’s plate and the bloke grabbed him and I went, ‘Oh my god, he’s got him’, and then he sort of just hesitated for a moment, like seconds, and then put his hands quickly under the table and just ripped his head off,” she told the publication.

“The bird squawked when he grabbed it, obviously, but the sound of that... it was just horrible and I was just instantly on my feet. An RSPCA WA Inspector has made inquiries. Sadly, right now under Western Australian law, it does not appear that this horrific act constitutes an offence under the Animal Welfare Act 2002,” RSPCA WA said in a statement.

“Animal Welfare law in WA is based on cruelty and suffering, and due to the quick nature of this bird's demise, it does not appear to meet the level of suffering required to become an offence under the law. Because of that, RSPCA WA Inspectors may not be able to prosecute for animal cruelty.”

The RSPCA WA then went on to announce a review to the current Animal Welfare Act, inviting submissions from the public to help enact the change.

The pub has expressed its sadness over the death of Kevin, saying that the incident is “not the norm and will not be tolerated”.

“RIP Kevin. We are still in disbelief about the barbaric attack on one of nature’s gifts. We are so sorry for those who witnessed this despicable act and whilst for many (especially the children) the memory of seeing such a thing will remain fresh for some time yet, please take comfort in knowing that the whole community is standing together against this type of behaviour,” the post read.

“This is not the norm and will not be tolerated. The matter is being dealt with by the authorities, so we will know more about what the outcome will be soon. Thank you for everyone’s support. Such a beautiful community.”

However, at the time of writing, the pub has released another post and taken the original post down.

“As you may have noticed, we have removed the post about the loss of Kevin, our resident Kookaburra, and whilst the investigation is underway, we kindly ask that no further comments regarding the incident are made on our page. We are awaiting further information from the police and will know more soon.”

"Beyond anything you can imagine": The brutal truth of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster

The launch of HBO miniseries Chernobyl has once again brought attention to the world’s worst nuclear disaster. Discussions have emerged as to whether the five-part show provided a realistic depiction of the catastrophe.

While some details in the story have been contested, most experts and survivors agree that the portrayal of the radiation effects is true to life.

Oleksiy Breus was an engineer at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant in the then-Soviet Union. Following the 1986 explosion at the fourth reactor, he took part in a dangerous operation to drain water from under the power station to prevent further explosion.

The 59-year-old told BBC that the physical impacts of acute radiation syndrome (ARS) were shown well in the series through the character of firefighter Vasily Ignatenko.

Breus said he met with shift leader Oleksandr Akimov and operator Leonid Toptunov – both of whom were featured prominently on the show – hours after the incident.

“They were not looking good, to put it mildly,” he said. “It was clear they felt sick. They were very pale. Toptunov had literally turned white.”

Akimov and Toptunov died two weeks later from ARS. Breus said his other colleagues who worked at the ill-fated night died in hospital after their skin turned to “a bright red colour”.

He said, “Radiation exposure, red skin, radiation burns and steam burns were what many people talked about but it was never shown like this. When I finished my shift, my skin was brown, as if I had a proper suntan all over my body. My body parts not covered by clothes – such as hands, face and neck – were red.”

This was in line with the testimony from Lyudmilla Ignatenko, wife of the fallen firefighter. In the book Voices from Chernobyl by Russian journalist Svetlana Alexievich, Lyudmilla said she witnessed her husband’s condition exacerbate as he began experiencing serious diarrhea, hair loss and skin cracking and discolouring.

She recalled, “I tell the nurse: ‘He’s dying’. And she says to me: ‘What did you expect? He got 1,600 roentgen. Four hundred is a lethal dose. You're sitting next to a nuclear reactor’.”

Archaeologist and Chernobyl expert Robert Maxwell also vouched for the show’s accuracy in showing how nuclear radiation affects the human body.

“The skin of the tongue sloughs off; the skin of the body turns black and peels way upon touch... eyes blister. The colon is covered in third degree burns,” Maxwell told Mamamia. “Their depiction of ARS and its treatment during the Soviet 1980s is highly accurate.”

The show’s creator Craig Mazin said he and his team took great care to show “total respect” to Vasily and his family in the series.

“We had to be really careful in episode three when we showed the final stage of Vasily Ignatenko's body,” Mazin told The Hollywood Reporter. “It was the most extreme thing that we showed, and our makeup and prosthetic designer Daniel Parker did a brilliant job — so brilliant, in fact, that there was a concern that we lingered on it a bit.

“We shortened that shot by quite a bit, because the last thing we wanted was to feel like we were trading on this man's sad fate for sensationalist points on a TV show. What we wanted was for people to see the truth of what happens…

“Those were the things we were dealing with all the time, because that man was a real person, and his wife is still alive, and the last thing we want to do is show anything other than total respect.”

134 people were diagnosed with ARS in the aftermath of the explosion. 28 of them died within months.

The number of people affected by the disaster remains disputed, with many suspecting that the radiation may be the reason behind other health problems such as cancer and birth defects.

Woman writes brutally honest letter to her cheating husband’s girlfriend

A woman has shared her anguish over her relationship ending via parenting platform Mumsnet.

She’s written a moving post to the person who is having an affair with her husband and explained how she’s in the middle of a split as her husband has left her for a woman he met at work.

She also shared her daughter’s perspective on the situation.

“I just need to understand the reasoning behind having an affair with a taken/married man? In the middle of a break up and I’ve had 10-year-old daughter ask “why did the woman take daddy away?” she writes.

“Such an innocent yet poignant question… please, for anyone that has been the ow (other woman) explain what you get out of it?”

The anonymous writer also explains that her and her DP (dear partner) were close before the split.

“I can just about grasp couples who aren’t happy, not getting on or no sec etc [sic]. My and my dp were happy, close. He was with me almost always. We went out and drank together. Had the odd date night, holidays.”

After thinking on it, the anonymous woman decides that she would rather spend her time looking elsewhere.

“I’d rather spend my time looking for someone else. A meaningful relationship rather than be used as an ego boost,” she finishes.

Mumsnet users urged the woman to realise that her anger is misdirected, and she should be angry at her husband instead of “the other woman”.

“Another woman did not take Daddy away. Life isn’t like that. Daddy left. He left. HE left – no one took him,” wrote one user.

Another wrote: “Where’s your letter to your partner? The OW is not blameless but she did not take him away. He willingly cheated and left. Your anger is misdirected.”
