She didn’t deserve that.”

“Rip off”: Charity shop blasted over extortionate sale

A local charity shop has come under fire for selling a pair of designer shoes for a hefty sum.

The op-shop at Palm Beach on the Gold Coast is selling a pair of gold embellished Christian LouBoutin loafers for $500 after being discounted from $1,483.

The eye-watering price tag was posted to Facebook and caused outrage among locals, as the shoes were propped up on a red velvet pillow.

A woman by the name of Jo Sherwood posted the image to the Palm Beach community Facebook page, writing, “You know when Palmy has gone really upmarket (sic) … designer shoes at Vinnies.”

Despite her claims, a spokesperson for the St Vincent de Paul Society has clarified the designer loafers were not from a Vinnies but another independent op shop in the area.

Many were quick to slam the hefty price tag, calling the sale a “rip-off”.

“It’s bloody disgusting the prices they charge on anything. I saw a Kmart dress in there last week, they were selling it for more than Kmart sold it for,” another wrote.

Others were quick to call out many op shops who seem to have forgotten who they are there for.

“Think they need to remember they are selling donated goods, not operating a boutique store,” someone replied.

Another said that “all op shops have forgotten that they are meant to be there for the poor people, not just the hipsters.”

Bluey blasted over extravagantly “wealthy” home

A concerned parent has blasted the canine family in Bluey for living in a house that they deemed too wealthy.

The viewer said it is “discouraging” to see the animated family of dogs living in a home worth several millions of dollars, but also believes the dog parents’ humility in their riches has given them the freedom to be “such amazing parents”.

The show depicts the Heeler family of Bandit and Chilli and their two children Bluey and Bingo, with one passionate viewer pondering whether their parenting skills are due to the dogs being “millionaires”, sparking a debate online.

“Confession: it bothers me that the Heelers are wealthy,” the concerned parent began on Reddit.

“It’s been estimated that the Heeler home is worth at least $1-$2 million, if not more. It’s hard to say exactly because the floor plan changes to fit the needs of the story.”

“A few real estate articles say $4 million, but $1-2 million seems to be the most realistic answer.”

“Every once in a while, the thought creeps into my mind that the reason they are such amazing parents is because they are millionaires.”

The parent did clarify that they do believe the animated Heelers to be “fantastic people who live frugally and they don’t flaunt their money”.

“They live in a great neighbourhood, send their kids to fantastic schools, and their jobs seem to be very flexible so they spend a lot of time home with their kids.”

They concluded saying that “as a parent who isn’t wealthy, it’s a little discouraging”.

Fans were divided with the Reddit post, with some entertaining the parent’s theory, while others thought the children’s show was being “overanalysed”.

“They’re also talking dogs which I’ll never be,” one user pointed out.

“Please don’t compare yourself to a cartoon dog, especially one you only see for six-minute segments. Anyone can be an involved parent for seven minutes,” a second wrote.

“Dear god, it’s a cartoon. Are you also upset that SpongeBob lives in a two-story home by himself off a fry cook salary?” another said.

Another joked, “I’m getting really sick of explaining this over and over again. Their house is worth a lot of money NOW, but that’s only because the housing market in Brisbane has exploded over the last 10 years.”

Nick Kyrgios blasts Ash Barty’s historic win

Nick Kyrgios has hit back at Ash Barty’s historic win of the Newcombe Medal for a record fifth time in a row.

The 26-year-old retired tennis player won the Newcombe Medal at the Australian Tennis Awards for her Australian Open success.

This, however, did not appear to sit right with fellow Aussie Kyrgios, who said she did not deserve the medal after having only played the Australian Open this year.

In an Instagram story, Kyrgios shared a photo with Barty and his achievements in the past year, clearly showing he achieved more.

He had the caption: "LOL. No respect at all. I don't give a f***."

The graphic showed that Barty had played only three months of 2022 in which she won two singles titles and one doubles crown, including 14 matches across the two formats.

Kyrgios on the other hand had one singles title and three doubles crowns, as well as 61 victories across the two disciplines.

Despite the huge difference in numbers, it would appear that Kyrgios played better than Barty but that is not the case.

Barty won a singles grand slam and Kyrgios simply did not after losing the Wimbledon singles decider to Novak Djokovic while Barty defeated Danielle Collins.

Images: Instagram

"You don't do that to a hearse": Thieves blasted over despicable act

A funeral home has been the subject of an unusual robbery after thieves stripped the wheels of a hearse - and its owner has a message to share with those responsible.

Arriving at work on Sunday at Te Awahou Funeral Services in Foxton, New Zealand, owner Jayden Moore discovered that one of his hearses was missing its two rear wheels.

"In between Saturday and Sunday, we had boy racers out past the funeral home doing skids – obviously we don't know if it was them, but putting two and two together we can imagine they've needed wheels for their car,” he said.

The hearse had been sitting out, ready to be used for a service that morning, with Mr Moore telling the NZ Herald that he had to run around to find an alternative.

"We came into work to do a service for a family and we've had to run around and find a new [hearse] - we have two but they're set up for different reasons,” he told the outlet.

In a message for the thieves, Mr Moore urged them to consider the implications of their actions.

"You've not ripped me off, you've ripped these loved ones off," he said.

Mr Moore told the Herald that his staff and the local community had been left fuming at the theft.

"Everyone is a bit p***ed off, you don't do that to a hearse – these a***holes don't know or don't care that it's tapu (‘sacred’ and prohibited) to touch anything to do with funeral services – they've got some bad karma coming their way."

He added that the community had been incredibly supportive and his business and “fully backed up” the funeral home.

“The community has been right behind us especially our local – fully backing the whole 'what a***holes would do that' kind of mentality,” he said.

Mr Moore isn’t aware of any cameras that could have captured the theft and has urged anyone in the community who saw anything or who has information to come forward.

“If anyone has any information, please get in touch with us,” he said.

Image: NZ Herald

NSW Police blasted after joining TikTok

TikTok has become the home of influencers, brands, creatives and even zoos, but the NSW Police haven’t received as warm a welcome on the platform as they might have expected.

Despite gaining popularity for their law-related memes and posts on Facebook, the organisation’s debut on TikTok has seen them be called out for issues including police violence, Indigenous deaths in police custody, and the rates of domestic violence in the force.

Less than a month after starting the @nswpolice TikTok account, users have been taking advantage of the platform’s ‘duet’ feature (which allows users to create videos that play next to the original video) to address these issues.

Ben Vance, a 26-year-old digital marketing coordinator in Sydney, has even been blocked by the account after duetting their videos with less-than-flattering headlines involving the police.

“I thought, ‘This is the perfect time to air out some bad laundry’,” he told Buzzfeed News.

Some of the videos show officers acting out funny skits about their law enforcement tactics, with one viral clip showing an officer responding to the question, ‘How do we keep the roads safe this long weekend?’ with a cartoon filter overlaid with text reading, “DOUBLE DEMERITS”.

“Can’t say we didn’t warn you,” the caption reads.

Mr Vance duetted that clip with a video of himself smiling over a screenshot from the Australian Institute of Criminology’s report that reveals there were almost 500 Indigenous deaths reported in police custody in the last 30 years.

Ben Vance has been praised for pointing out issues involving the police, who have since blocked him on the platform. Image: @easymoneyvancey (TikTok)

Mr Vance has had his own takes go viral, with supportive comments telling him he is “doing god's work” flooding in and messages from people sharing their frustrations with the police.

“I’ve gotten people reaching out to me in my TikTok comments and DMs (direct messages) telling me they were 16, walking into a music festival, and strip-searched because they ‘looked like a drug dealer’,” he told the outlet.

Though he said he didn’t intend to start “a beef with the police”, he thought it was a good opportunity to hold them accountable.

“There’s a lack of accountability reporting in this country with the news media being owned by a select few people, and this information isn’t very well publicised,” he said.

The double demerits clip isn’t the only one of NSW Police’s videos to be used to criticise the force, and Mr Vance isn’t the only person to be blocked as a result of their criticisms.

Taken from the perspective of two officers tapping on a computer screen, it features the text: “POV: you’re looking up someone in the system who was using their phone while driving without a licence and speeding in an unregistered vehicle with two bald tyres and no working tail lights, wondering how they thought they would get away with it”.

User @biglublyleanne responded to that clip, mimicking the officers with the caption, “POV: you’re writing an incident report after killing another Black Australian”, written over the top.

TikTok user @biglublyleanne was also blocked shortly after pointing out the issue of Indigenous deaths in custody. Image: @biglublyleanne (TikTok)

On the same day, the user revealed they had also been blocked by the account.

“You can give Indigenous people the heat mercilessly but can’t take it,” they wrote in the caption.

As of publication, interactive options that allow users to duet or stitch videos are no longer available - but preventing people from sharing their clips has just increased the backlash.

A more recent clip about Ed, the tabby police cat that features prominently on the organisation’s Facebook page, has received comments asking for the features to be turned back on, while some joked that the page would soon prevent people from commenting too.

“The police thinking they can come on tiktok and not be dragged,” one user wrote.

“Don’t be shy, turn duets and stitches back on,” another said.

“Imagine blocking people who are exercising freedom of speech - I thought criticism of government bodies was legal, guess not,” a third argued.

Image: @easymoneyvancey (TikTok)

Grandma blasted by daughter for unthinkable act

A mother has been left fuming after her own mum left her toddler outside unattended while she went inside to grab a coffee.

The exhausted mother noted that she was already looking after her newborn child and was grateful that her mum was helping out with the kids.

However, the pair got into an argument when her mum left the 20-month-old toddler outside with no supervision.

The woman took to Mumsnet.com to ask whether or not she was overreacting.

“My mother and me just had a massive fight,” she began the post.

“My mother has been taking my toddler son out for a walk and came back to ‘charge her phone and drink a coffee’.

“She wanted to leave again afterwards, taking him for another walk, so she left him outside in the pushchair sleeping.

“I then said: ‘Can you please not leave him unattended outside the house?’”

The mother explained that she was just in her underpants, sick to the stomach, and was trying to settle her crying baby so was unable to walk outside to look after her son.

“My mother then called me ‘paranoid’ and said I watched too many crime shows.

“This resulted in us having a massive fight and I told my mother if she takes my toddler out, she has responsibility for him.

“In the end, she sat by the open door on a chair and had her coffee there.”

She then asked whether or not she was being paranoid and despite living in Birmingham where other families live, she was worried that an “opportunist was going to snatch him”.

Commenters sided with the mother, saying she was not being paranoid and it's her maternal instinct kicking in to ensure her children are safe.

“I don't think you're being OTT she shouldn't be leaving him outside where she can't see him,” one person wrote.

“This is a generational thing- in 1970 people happily left their babies in prams outside shops etc, just as these days you might leave a dog outside,” another explained.

“Times change, however, and these days it’s not generally seen as safe. Whether that’s because it’s genuinely more dangerous now or because we have a different attitude to risk, who knows? But it’s 2022 and not 1970.”

“No, no, no! The chance of him being snatched are small but there is still a chance and it's not a risk worth taking because you can't be arsed to take the pram into the house,” another commented.

Image: Shutterstock

Police under fire for blasting Disney songs during arrest

Police officers in a Californian town are being investigated after they were filmed blasting Disney songs late at night.

In a video uploaded to YouTube, police are seen searching an allegedly stolen car in the town of Santa Ana around 11pm.

After a few minutes, the officers notice the situation is being filmed, and one goes to a police car and turns on the speakers to loudly play You've Got A Friend In Me from the Disney film Toy Story in an effort to deter the filmer.

Other songs from Disney films Mulan, Encanto and Coco play next, as nearby residents are awoken from the sound and ask police to turn the music down.

They eventually do, but not before attracting the attention of one resident who is also a town councillor, identified as Jonathan Hernandez.

Hernandez asked the police what the reason for the music was, with one officer responding, “copyright infringement” while pointing to the person filming the scene.

This means if the video was posted online, it would be removed for playing the copyrighted Disney tracks.

Police in the US have previously been accused of playing copyrighted songs when being filmed by civilians.

Despite their attempts to thwart the video, it remains on YouTube and has amassed over 46,000 views.

"I'm embarrassed that this is how you're treating my neighbours," Mr Hernandez said in the video.

"There's children here."

Santa Ana Chief of Police David Valentin said in a statement that the police department was aware of the video, and that the incident was being investigated.

“You should know her name”: Alec Baldwin’s wife blasts paparazzi

Alec Baldwin and his wife Hilaria have spoken out about the shooting of Halyna Hutchins in a fiery exchange with paparazzi.

The 63-year-old actor spoke to a group of local media on Saturday while staying in Vermont, which quickly turned into a very tense conversation.

Alec said he was unable to give any details on the ongoing investigation into Halyna's death, citing instructions from the Santa Fe Country Sheriff’s Office, but he did speak about his relationship with the cinematographer.

“It’s an active investigation in terms of a woman dying,” he said.

“She was my friend. The day I arrived on set and started shooting I took her to dinner with Joel, the director."

“We were a very, very well-oiled crew shooting a film together and then this horrible event happened.”

One of the paparazzi began to ask Alec about the meeting he had with Halyna's husband and son, but forgot her name while phrasing the question.

This action sparked a furious response from Baldwin's wife Hilaria.

“Halyna, her name is Halyna,” she said.

“If you are spending this much time waiting for us you should know her name.”

“You don’t know her name?” said Baldwin, before confirming he had met with Ms Hutchins’ husband Matthew and her nine-year-old son.

“I wouldn’t know how to characterise it. They’re mortified,” he said.

Hilaria interrupted again, saying, “You guys, you guys. You know what, no details.”

Alec then turned to her and said, “Do me a favour, I am going to answer the questions.”

After a few more questions, Baldwin asks the paparazzi to leave him alone, saying "my kids are in the car crying".

“As a courtesy I came to talk to you. I am not allowed to comment on the investigation, I talk to the cops every day,” he said.

“We sat down as a courtesy to talk to you, now please, would you just stop following us. Just leave us alone. We gave you everything.”

The accidental shooting took place on the film set of Rust in New Mexico on October 21st, as Alec fired a gun that killed Halyna Hutchins and injured the film's director Joel Souza.

Both assistant director David Halls and armourer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed have been questioned as part of the investigation into how Baldwin ended up handling a gun loaded with live ammunition.

"As fake as they come": Oprah blasted by fellow Hollywood star

The talk show queen has come under fire by fellow Hollywood star, Rose McGowan, who claims her “fake” persona hides the “ugly truth”.

Oprah was well-known for her top-rating talk show but now she’s become famous for being able to get all the biggest names to talk to her about how they really feel – including Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

But now she’s being accused of faking her support of the #MeToo movement by activist and actress Rose McGowan.

Known for her roles in major movies and the TV series Charmed, McGowan posted a scathing tweet about the talk show queen, describing her as “as fake as they come”.

“I am glad more are seeing the ugly truth of @Oprah,” McGowan tweeted, along with an old photo of Winfrey, now 67, virtually kissing convicted rapist Harvey Weinstein.

“I wish she were real, but she isn’t.” tweets McGowan.

I am glad more are seeing the ugly truth of @Oprah. I wish she were real, but she isn’t. From being pals with Weinstein to abandoning & destroying Russell Simmon’s victims, she is about supporting a sick power structure for personal gain, she is as fake as they come. #lizard pic.twitter.com/RCuXNpWCU0
— Rose 🌊McGowan (@rosemcgowan) August 29, 2021

Herself an outspoken survivor of sexual assault, McGowan continues: “From being pals with Weinstein to abandoning & destroying Russell Simmon’s [sic] victims, she is about supporting a sick power structure for personal gain, she is as fake as they come. #lizard.”

Weinstein’s long list of alleged sexual assaults dating back to the 1970s was the catalyst for the #MeToo movement in October 2017, with McGowan being one of the first of dozens of women to accuse him of rape.

The disgraced film producer, who has denied having “any non-consensual sex,” was found guilty of two felonies in February 2020 and is currently serving time in Wende Correctional Facility.

Meanwhile, Russell Simmons has also been accused of rape and sexual misconduct by 20 women. The music executive, 63, has denied the accusations and kept a low profile in recent years, though he resurfaced in the Hamptons earlier this month.

McGowan’s tweet refers to an earlier documentary

It appears McGowan’s tweet refers to an earlier documentary which Oprah was going to be involved with. This 2020 documentary titled On The Record was centred around Simmons’ alleged sexual misconduct.

While she was originally on board to executive-produce the project, she ended up backing out, citing differences with the film’s directors.

In a statement, Winfrey said: “I have decided that I will no longer be executive producer on the untitled Kirby Dick and Amy Ziering documentary, and it will not air on Apple TV+,” Winfrey said in a statement to the Hollywood Reporter in January 2020.

“I want it to be known that I unequivocally believe and support the women. Their stories deserve to be told and heard. In my opinion, there is more work to be done on the film to illuminate the full scope of what the victims endured, and it has become clear that the filmmakers and I are not aligned in that creative vision.”

Not the first time McGowan has accused a celebrity of ‘faking’ it

This is not the first time McGowan has publicly accused a high-profile figure of faking their support of the #MeToo movement.

Last year, she hit out at her Charmed co-star Alyssa Milano, calling her a #MeToo “fraud”.

The ugly Twitter spat occurred when Milano expressed her support for then-Presidential candidate Joe Biden and the Democratic Party.

McGowan has long been opposed to Biden after claims he had sexually assaulted Tara Reade, leading her to label Milano a fraud and a liar.

Image: Twitter

Campaigner sparks controversy after blasting picture book

A British domestic violence campaigner has called out Judith Kerr’s 1968 picture book, The Tiger Who Came to Tea, as a reinforcement of problematic ideas.

Rachel Adamson, the co-director of charity Zero Tolerance, which aims to end men’s violence against women, has claimed the book is an “old fashioned” depiction of women.

“We know that gender stereotypes are harmful and they reinforce gender inequality, and that gender inequality is the cause of violence against women and girls,” she told BBC Radio Scotland.

Kerr’s picture book tells the story of a tiger who arrives on a family’s doorstep and, once invited in for tea, proceeds to consume all of their food and drinks.

Adamson criticised the “stereotypical” ending to the book, where the dad comes home from work and saves the day by taking his family to a cafe.

The campaigner also questioned why the tiger was not female or gender neutral.

“We need to recognise these aren’t just stories… it is reflective of a society that we need to think more closely about,” she said.

Adamson described Kerr as a “wonderful author”, but was aware that her comments would “make a lot of people unhappy”.

Despite her strong views about the book, Adamson has stressed that she doesn’t want it banned.

Instead, she believes it could be used to “raise a conversation” in nurseries.

Speaking to The Daily Telegraph, Meghan Gallacher, the Scottish Conservatives spokesperson for children and young people, described Adamson’s language as “completely unhelpful”.

“While attitudes change over time, parents will be left bemused at some of these claims by Zero Tolerance,” Gallacher said.

“This sort of language is completely unhelpful as we try to educate children about much-loved publications from days gone by.

“There are far better ways for this publicly funded group to go about changing attitudes, rather than simply calling for these books to be banned from nurseries.”

Kerr, who had fled Nazi Germany when she was just 13, had previously denied claims there was a darker meaning to the story.

The idea came to her while she was a stay-at-home mother of her two small children.

“It got really very boring,” she later recalled.

“We’d go for a walk and have tea, and that was it really. Prince Harry blasted for extraordinary new interview

Prince Harry has been slammed for his extraordinary new interview.

The royal sat down with the Armchair Expert podcast for a chat where he candidly spoke about Prince Charles’ parenting.

During the 90-minute interview, the Duke of Sussex admitted he moved to the United States with his family to “break the cycle” of “pain” he suffered as a member of the royal family.

He also a said it was necessary that he “change that for my own kids”.

The Duke went on to suggest that Prince Charles had “suffered” because of his upbringing by the Queen and Prince Philip, and that his father “treated me the way he was treated”.

He called it “genetic pain”.

He also admitted he wanted to quit royal duties in his “early 20s” because of “what it did” to his mother, Princess Diana.

“I don’t think we should be pointing the finger or blaming anybody, but certainly when it comes to parenting, if I’ve experienced some form of pain or suffering because of the pain or suffering that perhaps my father or my parents had suffered, I’m going to make sure I break that cycle so that I don’t pass it on, basically,” Harry said.

“It’s a lot of genetic pain and suffering that gets passed on anyway so we as parents should be doing the most we can to try and say ‘you know what, that happened to me, I’m going to make sure that doesn’t happen to you’”.

He went on to say: “I never saw it, I never knew about it, and then suddenly I started to piece it together and go ‘OK, so this is where he went to school, this is what happened, I know this about his life, I also know that is connected to his parents so that means he’s treated me the way he was treated, so how can I change that for my own kids”.

“And here I am, I moved my whole family to the US, that wasn’t the plan but sometimes you’ve got make decisions and put your family first and put your mental health first.”

The 36-year-old compared his former royal life to “a mixture between The Truman Show and being in a zoo”, admitting he stepped down last year to put his family and mental health ‘”first.”

Harry also revealed that he had started counselling after his wife Meghan Markle had saw how “angry” he had become.

When asked if he felt “in a cage” while in royal duties, the royal said: “It’s the job right? Grin and bear it. Get on with it.”

“I was in my early twenties and I was thinking I don’t want this job, I don’t want to be here. I don’t want to be doing this.”

“Look what it did to my mum, how am I ever going to settle down and have a wife and family when I know it’s going to happen again?” he asked.

‘I’ve seen behind the curtain, I’ve seen the business model and seen how this whole thing works and I don’t want to be part of this.”

Prince Harry seems to have picked up the American accent as well fans noticed, after he admitting the U.S. had taken a weight off of his shoulders.

“Living here now I can actually lift my head and I feel different, my shoulders have dropped, so have hers, you can walk around feeling a little bit freer, I can take Archie on the back of my bicycle, I would never have had the chance to do that,” he said.

Royal commentator Robert Jobson accused the royal of throwing his family “under the bus.”

“Forgive me, but he’s been a dad for how long? Perhaps he should pen a book on how to parent properly drawing on his wealth of experience? For “charity” of course,” he wrote.

Jobson would later go on to Sunrise, where he accused Harry of shameless behaviour”.

“You’ve got to take some of it seriously because he believes it in himself, you know, mental health is a big big issue out there.”

“But to keep harping on about this, it’s getting embarrassing,” he said.

“To not only criticise his father’s parenting skills, but also the Queen and Prince Philip who has only just had his funeral, I think it smacks of pretty shameful behaviour.”

Images: Getty
