“You better f**king not leave”: Ben Affleck finally reveals what was said at the Grammys

The Grammys are always going to cause a little bit of tension, with sayings like “it should’ve been me” bound to be heard, but for big shot actor Ben Affleck, the 2023 ceremony could be described as a “take your husband to work day”, so he said.

A "tense moment" between the star and wife J.Lo appearing to get into a tiff went viral on the internet, and he’s finally responded, according to the New York Post.

Affleck, 50, recalled the incident as a standard “husband-and-wife-thing”, despite the spawning of several memes.

“I saw [Grammy host Trevor Noah approach] and I was like, ‘Oh, God,’ they were framing us in this shot, but I didn’t know they were rolling,” Affleck told the Hollywood Reporter, “I leaned into her and I was like, ‘As soon they start rolling, I’m going to slide away from you and leave you sitting next to Trevor.’”

“You better f**king not leave,” Lopez responded, according to her husband.

Affleck continued to play the doting husband, but Lopez appeared to be out of sorts after she threatened him, saying,“‘All right, who is this act?’ Like, I don’t keep up. My wife does, obviously. And yeah, it is your wife’s work event.”

Affleck shared, "I had a good time at the Grammys. My wife was going, and I thought, ‘Well, there’ll be good music. It might be fun.’”

Lopez seems used to her husband’s apparent case of resting ‘bro’ face, joking about it soon after the event, writing on Twitter about Affleck’s “happy face” during a trailer for his latest movie Air.

Meanwhile, the director and co-star of the new film, which is based on a true story of Nike’s creation of Michael Jordan’s infamous shoe line, has had his fair share of award shows, “I’ve gone to award shows and been drunk, a bunch. Nobody ever once said I’m drunk.” He told the Hollywood Reporter.

“[But at the Grammys] they were like, ‘He’s drunk.’ And I thought that’s interesting. That raises a whole other thing about whether or not it’s wise to acknowledge addiction because there’s a lot of compassion, but there is still a tremendous stigma, which is often quite inhibiting.”

Affleck has struggled with alcohol abuse in the past but has since recovered.

He previously made waves when he appeared to blame his unhappy marriage to ex-wife Jennifer Garner, claiming, “I probably still would’ve been drinking” if he was still with her, he told SiriusXM’s The Howard Stern Show in 2021.

He is now happily married to 53-year-old superstar Lopez, whom he married in July 2022 after their on-and-off again relationship over the years.

The couple co-parent five children together from previous marriages and are reportedly moving into a $96 million Pacific Palisades estate.

Madonna takes aim at "ageist" critics

Madonna has spoken out against wide-spread criticism of her appearance after presenting at the Grammy Awards.

The 64-year-old musician introduced Sam Smith and Kim Petras' performance of their hit song Unholy at the annual music award ceremony, but rather than focus on the "history making" performance, many were quick to comment on Madonna's appearance.

Following her moment on the stage, Madonna's social media was flooded with comments calling her scary, unrecognisable and denouncing her supposed "obsession with plastic surgery", despite the singer never confirming having cosmetic enhancements.

Hitting back at online trolls, Madonna took to Instagram to condemn the "ageism and misogyny" of her critics, while refusing to apologise for her "creative choices".

In a lengthy post, she wrote, "Instead of focusing on what I said in my speech which was about giving thanks for the fearlessness of artists like Sam and Kim - Many people chose to only talk about close-up photos of me taken with a long lens camera By a press photographer that Would distort anyone’s face!!"

"Once again I am caught in the glare of ageism and misogyny that permeates the world we live in. A world that refuses to celebrate women past the age of 45, and feels the need to punish her if she continues to be strong willed, hard-working and adventurous."

She continued, "I have never apologised for any of the creative choices I have made nor the way that I look or dress and I’m not going to start. I have been degraded by the media since the beginning of my career but I understand that this is all a test and I am happy to do the trailblazing so that all the women behind me can have an easier time in the years to come."

She concluded the post by saying, "I look forward to many more years of subversive behaviour, pushing boundaries, standing up to the patriarchy, and most of all enjoying my life."

While her post was flooded with support from her celebrity friends, she also welcomed a new wave of criticism with many commenters thinking her anger was misdirected.

One person said, "Ok but there's an elephant in the room here - This is not ageism - it is plastic surgery and filler! How is this ageism when YOU did all this to yourself in order to prevent looking old? Give yourself a break from those fillers and stop blaming ageism for what you choose to do to yourself."

Harry Styles' Grammy award acceptance speech causes backlash

Harry Styles has come under fire for an off-handed comment he made during his Grammy Awards acceptance speech.

The former One Direction member won the biggest award of the night, taking home the trophy for Album of the Year for his 2022 masterpiece Harry’s House.

The 29-year-old took to the stage with his musical collaborators to accept the award, giving a speech of thanks to those who have inspired him along his musical journey.

However, a fleeting comment he made has caused outrage, telling the audience, “This doesn’t happen to people like me very often.”

Harry Styles accepts the #Grammy for Album of the Year. https://t.co/yom28xGdvk pic.twitter.com/0037FGJ52C

— Variety (@Variety) February 6, 2023

The statement raised eyebrows, with many encouraging Harry to check his privilege.

Much of the criticism came from people who believed Beyoncé should’ve won the award, saying Harry’s comment was coming from a place of white privilege.

Only three black women have won Album of the Year in the Grammys’ 65-year history, and it’s been 24 years since a black woman took home the prized award, when Lauryn Hill won for The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill in 1999.

Harry styles said “this doesn’t happen to people like me very often” and I gotta be honest I can’t think of a type of people this happens for more

— hey man nice tweet (@jazz_inmypants) February 6, 2023

“this doesn’t happen to people like me very often” IT LITERALLY ONLY HAPPENS TO PEOPLE LIKE YOU????

— َ (@ungodlywests) February 6, 2023

“this doesn’t happen to people like me often” who, white british men? 😭

— no (@zedonarrival) February 6, 2023

Despite the backlash, Harry’s House was the second most streamed album of 2022, while Beyoncé’s Renaissance album didn’t even crack the top five.

While other fans continued their tirade about his speech, die-hard Harry Styles fans rushed to his defence, with one person writing on Twitter, “Harry Styles gave THIS humble speech and people are hating on him because their fave didn’t win?? He deserved this Grammy more than anything so respectfully, get over yourselves.”

Another fan said, “It's not cool to hate on Harry Styles just because he won the Grammy you wanted someone else to win, so ZZZZZZ for that honestly. He had one of the biggest albums and singles of the year, the math IS ACTUALLY MATHING.”

One person, who is seemingly well-versed in the world of online fan culture, summed up the discourse perfectly, saying, “Harry could give the nicest speech in the world, & be a genuine a** person and you got twitter warriors picking apart everything he says to make it negative. Y’all are actually miserable.”

Jennifer Lopez caught chastising “miserable” Ben Affleck

The prestigious Grammy Awards are never without their share of drama, and the 2023 show has proven to be no exception.

American singer, actress, and dancer Jennifer Lopez was there to present the award for Best Pop Vocal Album, and brought her husband Ben Affleck along as her date. But it was their time in the audience that caught the attention of eagle-eyed viewers, and propelled an exchange between the pair to viral heights.

Affleck, who is no stranger to being the subject of “miserable” internet memes, became the focus of such attention all over again with his attendance at the ceremony. While he was there to support his wife and celebrate the other artists at Crypto.com Arena, Ben spent his night appearing as though he’d rather be anywhere else.

As one Buzzfeed editor put it, “however bad of a day you’re having, I promise you’re not as miserable as Ben Affleck at the Grammys right now.”

“Someone please check on Ben Affleck,” Chicks in the Office podcast tweeted.

Later in the night, that same podcast suggested a save for the struggling actor, “Ben Affleck, blink if you're okay.”

Ben Affleck, blink if you're okay #Grammys pic.twitter.com/qO6xBPAbXl

— Chicks in the Office (@ChicksInTheOff) February 6, 2023

As social media got to work making the most out of Ben’s bad situation, another clip from the evening was set to overshadow them all.

The video, shared across Twitter and TikTok, sees Ben lean in to whisper something in Jennifer’s ear. While it’s unclear what was said, Jennifer can be seen jumping in her seat, tense, before she responds and ushers her husband back to his own chair. She quickly turns her attention to Trevor Noah, the show’s host, who was nearby with cameras.

“Her face when she saw the camera,” a viewer wrote of Jennifer’s response, “LOL.”

While some called for a little help from lip readers in figuring out what had transpired, most were in agreement: Jennifer was not impressed.

Ben’s situation wasn’t set to improve, with viewer commentary following his journey on what seemed to be a long, long night for the actor.

“Ben Affleck is every introvert everywhere,” tweeted one fan, “you can see his batteries draining in real time. Man is already at 23%.”

Ben Affleck is every introvert everywhere. You can see his batteries draining in real time. But if Ben’s attitude is anything to go by, that isn’t all he would like to have missed out on.

Images: Getty

Ukraine president appears at Grammy's from bunker

Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky made a surprise appearance at the Grammy’s from his bunker as war continues to tear into his country.

In a pre-recorded video from his bunker in Kyiv, Zelensky delivered a powerful speech asking the audience and viewers to “support us in any way you can” as fighting continues between Ukraine and Russia.

"The war. What's more opposite than music,” President Zelensky began.

"The silence of ruined cities and killed people. Our children drew swooping rockets, not shooting stars.

"Over 400 children have been injured and 153 children died. And we will never see them drawing."

“Our parents are happy to wake up in the morning. In bomb shelters, but alive. Our loved ones don’t know if we will be together again.

“The war doesn’t let us choose who survives and who stays in eternal silence.

“Our musicians wear body armour instead of tuxedos. They sing to the wounded in hospitals, even to those who can’t hear them. But the music will break through anyway.”

He urged and encouraged musicians and viewers of the Grammy to “fill the silence with your music!”

“We defend our freedom. To live. To love. To sound. On our land, we are fighting Russia which brings horrible silence with its bombs.

“The dead silence. Fill the silence with your music! Fill it today to tell our story. Tell the truth about this war on your social networks, on TV.

“Support us in any way you can. Any — but not silence. And then peace will come.

“To all our cities the war is destroying. Chernihiv, Kharkiv, Volnovakha, Mariupol and others. They are legends already. But I have a dream of them living. And free. Free like you on the Grammy stage.”

Zelensky’s speech served as an introduction to John Legend’s live performance, which then featured a backdrop of photos from war-torn Ukraine.

Image: Getty
