5 TV sidekicks we like more than the star

Despite not having as much screen time as the stars, TV sidekicks manage to bring a great blend of humour and flair into a TV series.

These characters were so brilliant they gave the stars a run for their money.

1. Seinfeld – George Costanza

Often unemployed and living with his parents, George Costanza has a knack for making his best friend Jerry look good. The dynamic duo met during high school and they have been friends ever since. George has the ability of making viewers loving him, even when it is unclear if we are laughing at him or with him.

2. How I Met Your Mother – Barney Stinson

The inventor of the bro code, Barney Stinson played by Neil Patrick Harris brings the charisma and spontaneity to the gang of friends in HIMYM. Barney’s character not only comes out with funny jokes (and insults) but is also the perfect punch line to many other jokes. The only word which can adequately describe his character is “legen—wait for it—dary!”

3. Kath and Kim – Sharon Strzelecki

Played by Magda Szubanski, Sharon has viewers in stitches through her classic one-liners and through the way she relates to her two friends. The netball-obsessed character brings a mesmerising performance.

4. Orange Is the New Black – Flaca

Despite being surrounded by a group of strong supporting characters, Flaca still manages to steal the show. Her punk aesthetic and love for The Smiths, make viewers drawn to her character.

5. The Brady Bunch – Alice Nelson

The Brady family’s trusty housekeep and friend Alice Nelson was best known for telling jokes usually at her own expense. The clan would usually respond to her dry humour by saying “Oh, Alice!” Alice was first the housekeeper to Mike Brady and his previous wife (who died before the series started) and their three sons and then stayed on when Mike married Carol and gained three daughters. Alice joined in with the children’s games and would accompany the family when they went away on vacation.

Which TV sidekick would you add to the list? Let us know in the comments below.
