The dark chocolate combined with the toasted nuts and seeds with the burst of deliciousness from the Macro Certified Organic Frozen Raspberries, Blueberries and Mixed Berries take this recipe to the next level.

Ingredients:

3 cups chocolate, melted (home made or 85 per cent dark chocolate)

2 cups mixed nuts and/or seeds, toasted (I used Macro Australian Macadamias, Macro Australian Pecans, Macro Natural Pistachio Kernels, Macro Natural Walnuts and Macro Certified Organic Natural Cashews)

1 cup Macro Certified Organic Frozen Raspberries

1 cup Macro Certified Organic Frozen Blueberries

1 cup Macro Certified Organic Frozen Mixed Berries

Method:

Get started by melting down your chocolate in a saucepan over very low heat. You can make your own healthier chocolate or simply use a good quality store bought dark chocolate with a cocoa content of around 85 per cent.

In a dry fry-pan over medium heat, add your nuts and toast them, tossing frequently so they do not burn. Once they become aromatic and lightly golden brown, after about 3 to 4 minutes, remove from the heat and set aside to cool slightly.

In a bowl, add your Macro Certified Organic Frozen Raspberries, Blueberries and Mixed Berries and toss gently to combine.

Line a small brownie pan or square cake tin with baking paper. Pour in half of the melted chocolate, cover well with the mixed nuts and macro organic berries, and then pour the remaining raining half of chocolate over the top, making sure you get even coverage and cover the nuts and berries as best as you can.

Transfer to your freezer and allow it to set completely for about 30 to 45 minutes before slicing with a warm knife and serving in generous chunks. Enjoy.

Written by Luke Hines, Woolworths ambassador, nutrition coach, motivator and personal trainer.

7 best sports films of all time

Sports films have long been a fixture of the cinema world, ever since the Charlie Chaplin’s 1915 silent comedy The Champion. Since then we’ve seen everything from comedies like Happy Gilmore to serious stories like The Blind Side. Here are our picks for the best sports movies ever made.

Rocky

Sylvester Stallone shot to international fame after he both wrote and starred in the iconic 1976 film Rocky. Inspired by the championship fight between Muhammad Ali and Chuck Wepner, Stallone wrote the rags-to-riches story of struggling boxer Rocky Balboa. The low-budget film was an unexpected hit, raking in US$225 million and spawning six sequels.

Chariots of Fire

Who could forget that theme song? This 1981 British film told the story of two athletes competing in the 1924 Olympics – a Scottish Christian and an English Jew fighting to overcome discrimination. It won four Academy Awards and was used heavily in during the 2012 London Olympics.

Million Dollar Baby

Clint Eastwood’s 2004 Best Picture-winner Million Dollar Baby followed the story of a burnt-out boxing trainer who takes on an amateur female fighter, played by Hilary Swank. Swank and Morgan Freeman both won Oscars for their roles, and Eastwood took out the Best Director gong.

Caddyshack

This 1980 golfing film starring Chevy Chase and Rodney Dangerfield became a cult classic, even spawning a chain of Caddyshack Restaurants. The film told the story of a brash new golfer who ruffles feathers at a prestigious country club, meanwhile the greenkeeper (played by Bill Murray) must grapple with a gopher infestation.

Bend It Like Beckham

Starring Keira Knightley, this critically-acclaimed 2002 comedy-drama explored the struggle of Jesminder, the football-fanatic daughter of Punjabi Sikhs. While battling discrimination and going against her family’s wishes, Jesminder befriends a female footballer (played by Knightley) and joins a local team.

The Karate Kid

“Wax on, wax off.” The Karate Kid produced so many memorable quotes and characters, including Pat Morita as Mr Miyagi, the karate expert who takes on a schoolboy, transforming him into the Karate Kid. The film, released in 1984) was surprisingly successful, both critically and at the box office, where it earned over US$90 million.

Raging Bull

Last but certainly not least is the 1980 film that solidified Robert De Niro as one of the greatest actors of our time. Based on the true story of Italian-American boxer Jake LaMotta, Raging Bull was not hugely well-received upon release but has come to be regarded as one of the best films of all time. De Niro notably gained 27 kg to play an older version of the character.

Which of these films is your favourite? Do you have any to add to our list? 6 films that became unexpected cult classics

We hear the term “cult classic” quite a lot nowadays, so much so that it’s hard to tell what is and what isn’t a true cult classic. Defined as an obscure or low-budget film that had little success with mainstream audiences, these films found critical success and attracted cult-like followings – often years after their original release. Let’s take a look at some of the films that became unexpected classics.

Labyrinth (1986)

Starring the late, great David Bowie and Jennifer Connelly, musical fantasy film Labyrinth wasn’t exactly a low budget film, costing $25 million to produce. However, the movie bombed at the box office and became a home video and DVD success years later, finding a cult-following among both film buffs and Bowie fans alike.

Plan 9 from Outer Space (1959)

One of those movies that’s so bad it’s good, Ed Wood’s Plan 9 from Outer Space starred legendary horror actor Bela Lugosi as a resurrected man controlled by aliens. Many critics consider it the worst film ever made, but it experienced a surge in popularity in the ‘80s when it was picked up by TV stations and played in the late-night movie slot.

Mad Max (1979)

Director George Miller had no idea when he was shooting Mad Max that it would become a worldwide blockbuster. Starring Mel Gibson in his breakthrough role, the film turned its $400,000 budget into US$100 million at the box office. It spawned three sequels, the most recent of which (Fury Road) won six Oscars.

A Clockwork Orange (1971)

Based on Anthony Burgess’ novel of the same name, this highly controversial, ultra-violent dystopian film directed by Stanley Kubrick became a fixture in pop culture. The film shot Malcolm McDowell to fame, and his character Alex DeLarge has been referenced and parodied hundreds of times since the movie’s release in 1971.

The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975)

The quintessential cult classic, the film adaptation of the Rocky Horror Show remains so popular today that it is frequently shown in cinemas around the world, attracting unprecedented audience participation. Starring Tim Curry and Susan Sarandon, this kitschy film is a celebration of the quirkiness in all of us.

This Is Spinal Tap (1984)

Starring Rob Reiner, Christopher Guest, Michael McKean and Harry Shearer, this 1984 comedic mockumentary shot a fictional band to fame. Though not hugely successful at the box office, This Is Spinal Tap became a huge hit, particularly for musicians like Jimmy Page, Robert Plant and Ozzy Osbourne, for whom the film hit quite close to home.

What’s your favourite cult classic? Let us know in the comments below!

Related links:

8 classic films getting remakes

10 most iconic movie shots of all time

6 modern-classic movies everyone needs to see

Then and now: The cast of Rocky Horror

It’s been over 40 years since the cult classic hit The Rocky Horror Picture Show debuted, and with a made-for-TV reboot set to be released this year we thought we would see where the stars of the original show are now. Scroll through the gallery above for images.

Tim Curry

Then: He was a big hit in the iconic role as Dr. Frank-N-Furter, and LaVerne Cox has been selected to play the part of the sexually ambiguous scientist in the new version.

Now: His career really took off after Rocky Horror Picture Show and he became well versed playing the sophisticated villain. His theatre work has seen him win three Tony Award nominations, and he has also done some voice over work. Fans were shocked to learn that Curry was left wheelchair bound after a stroke several years ago.

Susan Sarandon

Then: A fresh-faced Sarandon had a huge job playing Janet Weiss in the original. The star’s character moves from a naïve girl to a promiscuous vixen in just one night. A tough call for any actress, but nothing that Sarandon couldn’t handle.

Now: Now an Academy Award-winner, Sarandon went from strength to strength in her acting career. She is also active with UNICEF and the Innocence Project.

Barry Bostwick

Then: The 30-year-old actor had only just broken into films when he was offered the role of his career as the nerdy hero, Brad Majors.

Now: Bostwick is best known as Mayor Randall Winston in Spin City and he has also played supporting roles on Scandal and CSI: Crime Scene Investigation.

Richard O'Brien

Then: O’Brien starred as creepy handyman Riff Raff and co-wrote the film adaptation of The Rocky Horror Picture Show.

Now: O’Brien has hosted the TV game show The Crystal Maze and has also done some voiceover work for Disney's Phineas and Ferb. He splits his time between the U.K. and New Zealand.

Nell Campbell and Patricia Quinn

Then: Campbell played Columbia, the groupie, and Quinn continued on with her part as ‘domestic’ Magenta from the original stage play.

Now: Campbell has continued to perform on both the stage and screen, and also had a stint as a singer. Quinn stuck to the horror scene, working in films such as Rob Zombie's The Lords of Salem, and a 1981 Rocky Horror spin-off called Shock Treatment, where Brad and Janet are contestants on a game show.

Meat Loaf

Then: At just 28, Meat Loaf played the deranged delivery boy Eddie and was a huge hit with the audience. Whoever takes on this role in the remake has big shoes to fill.

Now: With a standout career as both a singer and actor, Meat Loaf won a Grammy award for his single I'd Do Anything for Love, and played a supporting role with Brad Pitt in Fight Club.

Related links:

What the cast of Dr Quinn look like now

5 of the best TV shows to watch these holidays

The cast of Family Ties: then and now

Tropicana rocky road

Acclaimed chef Karen Martini shares her recipe for tropicana rocky road, a summery twist to the classic sweet treat.

Makes: Approximately 1kg

Ingredients:

450g white chocolate, 400 g finely chopped and 50g in chunks

100g coconut oil, gently warmed to liquefy if necessary

140g white marshmallows, cut in half

100g shaved coconut, plus extra to garnish

80g candied papaya, roughly diced

150g lemon Turkish delight (or any kind you like), cut into 3 cm x 1 cm pieces

90g red glacé cherries

120g glacé pineapple, roughly diced

180g salted toasted macadamia nuts

3 tablespoons dried passionfruit powder

Method:

Spray and line a brownie tray – you could also use a lamington tin or muffin tray or fill rings on baking paper.

Spread out the finely chopped chocolate evenly (rather than in a mound) in a large stainless steel bowl and place over a medium saucepan with a few centimetres of barely simmering water in it. When about two-thirds of the chocolate has melted, stir through once. Add the coconut oil and stir a couple more times to ensure that all the chocolate melts – don’t mix too much, or overheat, as the chocolate will become grainy. Take the bowl off the pan.

Combine the remaining ingredients, except for the passionfruit powder and a few cherries and marshmallows reserved for garnish, in a large bowl. Pour in the melted chocolate and fold through. Stand for 2 minutes then pour into the prepared tray. Decorate with the extra cherries, marshmallows and coconut and sprinkle over the passionfruit powder. Allow a couple of hours at room temperature to properly set – you could speed this up by popping it in the fridge for 30 minutes, but don’t leave it any longer.

Lift out of the tin and slice into pieces. Store in an airtight container somewhere cool.

Recipe courtesy of Australian Macadamias.

Related links:

Quick mix macadamia cookies

Chocolate ripple caramello cheesecake

Pear, pomegranate and feta salad

After a lush two-night stay, eating almost every morsel the hotel’s four restaurants have to offer and working it off by cycling around the Seaside Bike Path, I kissed both my jetlag and Vancouver behind and embarked on the next leg of my journey - from Vancouver to the awe-inspiring Lake Louise on the iconic Rocky Mountaineer.

All Aboard

The Rocky Mountaineer offers three levels of service on all journeys. Gold Leaf has reserved seating in a bi-level domed carriage featuring panoramic views on the upper level, fine dining on the lower level and an open bar once you near lunchtime. There’s also an outside vestibule, where you can inhale fresh mountain air and admire the incredible scenery.

Equally as fun though, are the less expensive Silver and Redleaf Services, which also offer meals and beverages, assigned seats and individual attention.

Fine Dining

The Goldleaf dining car serves a la carte warm breakfast choices, and for lunch there’s a choice of several Five Star dishes, including local wild caught salmon. Despite the restrictions of cooking on a moving train, the food is on par with any hatted restaurant I’ve eaten at.

Spectacular Scenery

As the train weaves through the Rocky Mountains up to Lake Louise, the colours and views change from lush, green foliage set against majestic cliffs to wide, pristine lakes and gurgling streams and rivers. If you’re lucky, you might spot bears, elk and deer.

With the setting sun, the train pulled in to the picturesque town of Kamloops, where we overnighted at Hotel 540. Kamloops is a quaint town filled with charm and typical Canadian hospitality. It has a thriving arts, culture and heritage scene all year round. There’s also an abundance of outdoor activities to get involved in, like kayaking, golf, dirt biking, fly fishing, rock climbing, wagon rides, swimming and of course, eating.

I had no time to get active on my overnight stay, but choosing a restaurant wasn’t easy. With hundreds of options including Japanese, Italian, traditional American fare, Mediterranean, Mexican and so much more, you’d need a month to sample all on offer. I unearthed a cosy, pub-style diner called Tumbleweed’s Neighbourhood Pub, where we ate hearty meals to an aural backdrop of a local folk group performing. It was perfect.

Glacier Delights

A delicious breakfast in the dining car got the next day started on a happy note and it just got increasingly better. Today’s trip was a kaleidoscope of glistening glaciers, snow capped mountains and the most pristine, azure blue waterways I’ve ever seen. Before I knew it, I was in Lake Louise, and it was to be one of the most spectacular experiences of my life.

Also known as the “Jewel of the Canadian Rockies,” Lake Louise is set in a small glacial valley surrounded by majestic mountains. Imagine if you will, the sparkling blue of a husky’s eye and then triple its intensity. You’d then have a fairly close idea of the pinch-me-I’m-dreaming colour of this pure, untouched lake.

Living the dream

Checking in to the Fairmont Lake Louise Chateau (www.fairmont.com) was like arriving at a fairytale castle, complete with European style architecture, enormous rooms and high ceiling. But the drawcard is undoubtedly that Lake, which I had the privilege of canoeing on later (it’s an option for all guests, but it does indeed, feel like a privilege).

Dipping my hand in the gemstone coloured water was surreal – it was like a sheet of tinted glass that rippled at human touch.

That night, I enjoyed a casual dinner in the Hotel’s Lakeview Lounge, followed by a few nightcaps at it’s friendly basement bar, The Glacier Saloon. The Hotel boasts seven eating spots, from fine dining to deli, and a full room service menu.

The Journey Ends

The following day was taken up drinking in the view and eating at the sumptuous Fairmont Dining Room. I also enjoyed a spot of shopping in the lobby’s many and varied stores, and then it was time to go.

I want to say that The Rocky Mountaineer is a once in a lifetime experience, but you’ll want to go back it every year. I know that I do. In fact, there was one woman in our cabin who was on her twenty-seventh journey in just 11 years and said she had no intention of ever stopping. I can certainly see why, and you should most certainly find out why for yourself.
