Hospice nurse reveals six unexplainable "death bed phenomena"

Hospice nurse Julie McFadden has lifted the lid on six unexplainable "death bed phenomena" that occur within a person's last weeks of life.

The LA-based nurse, who specialises in end of life care, explained that as a person nears the end of their life, they will experience a range of unusual things, including hallucinations, random bursts of energy and even choosing when they're going to die.

McFadden once again took to her YouTube channel to educate people on what happens when you're on your death bed, detailing each of the six strange occurrences.

Julie explained that patients often experienced "terminal lucidity", "hallucinations", "death stares", and more in their final weeks.

She began by explaining the first wild thing that happened at the end of life was terminal lucidity, in which people get a "burst of energy" in the days before they die, sharing that it happens "very often".

She said, "Just enjoy it and expect that maybe they will die soon after because that's the kicker with terminal lucidity, it looks like someone's going to die very soon then suddenly they have a burst of energy."

"They maybe have a really great day, they're suddenly hungry, they're suddenly able to walk, they're suddenly very alert and oriented, and then shortly after usually a day or two they will die, so that can be the hard part if you're not ready for it, if you don't know what's coming you can think they're getting better and then they die, which can be very devastating."

Julie then described how most people in their final days will encounter "death visioning" or "hallucinations", as many people describe seeing the ghosts of loved ones in their final days.

"I wouldn't have believed it unless I saw it for myself over and over again," the nurse admitted.

"Number three, this is really crazy - people choosing when they're going to die. I have seen some extreme cases of this, people just saying, 'Tonight's when I'm going to die I know it, I can feel it,' and they do. There's also a time when people will wait for everybody to get into town or get into the room arrive at the house whatever it is and then they will die," the nurse explained.

The fourth phenomena is known as the "death reach", according to Julie.

She explained, "It's when the person's lying in bed and they reach up in the air like they're seeing someone or they're reaching for someone either to hug them or to shake their hands. A lot of times they'll hold their hands up for a long time, like they're seeing something that we're not seeing and they're reaching for someone that we can't see."

Julie then listed "number five is the death stare," explaining that the death stare and the death reach often "go together".

"It usually looks like someone is staring off into the corner of the room or the side of the room basically looking at something intently, but if you're snapping your finger in front of their face or trying to say their name to kind of snap them out of it, they won't," she said.

The last wild thing the nurse has seen is known as a "shared death experience" and is "most impactful", according to Julie.

She explained, "A shared death experience is when someone who is not dying feels or sees or understands what's happening to the person who is dying."

"It's kind of like the dying person gives you the sensation of what they're going through. From what I experienced, it was a very good feeling. It was like the person was giving me these feelings of freedom and joy and kind of telling me that they were okay."

"At the time, I was shocked, I didn't know what was happening, but I've come to find out that that's called a shared death experience."

Flight attendant reveals how to score a free upgrade

A flight attendant has shared her number one trick for securing an upgrade on your next plane journey.

American flight attendant Cierra Mistt revealed the one question you should ask at check-in to score an upgrade to first class, with the hack working almost every time.

Mistt started her now-viral video by saying her hack to get a free upgrade was top secret.

“Let’s look at the big picture. Everyone is flying right now, and no one is more excited about that than commercial airlines,” she said.

“The majority of airlines are overbooking every single flight they have.”

“It comes from the last month of me trying to get home and not even being able to get on standby because every single flight has been oversold,” she said.

“I am not talking about one or two seats. I am talking about 10-30 seats that have been oversold.”

Mistt said this overselling of flights presents an opportunity to travellers.

“If everyone does show up, including the extra passengers that were oversold their tickets, the airlines have no choice but to financially compensate,” she said.

The flight attendant shared that airlines “normally start off with vouchers for $500 or something”.

“Normally they say a voucher but you can ask for it in cash,” she said.

“Depending on the flight and how desperate they are, they will go up to, like three, four, five thousand dollars.”

“This is where the free upgrades come in.”

Mistt said not only could you ask for a free upgrade in such circumstances, but you could “also ask for other incentives”.

“For example, drinks, dinners, breakfast, even a hotel if you have to stay overnight until the next flight,” she said.

“And, yes, you can also ask to be upgraded to first class.”

Her video received more than a million views, with people praising the hack and sharing how it has worked for them.

“I got upgraded to first class by doing this,” said one person.

Image credits: TikTok / Getty Images

Kate Middleton reveals cancer diagnosis in heartfelt message

Catherine, Princess of Wales, has revealed her battle with cancer in a heartfelt video message. The British royal shared her diagnosis and the subsequent journey she's embarking upon with the unwavering support of her family, notably her husband, Prince William, the heir to the throne.

The revelation comes after weeks of speculation swirling on social media regarding her health and whereabouts since her hospitalisation in January for undisclosed abdominal surgery. Until now, the details surrounding her condition were shrouded in secrecy, with Kensington Palace providing minimal information, assuring the public that the ailment was not cancer-related.

In her brave disclosure, Kate, as she is affectionately known, beseeched for "time, space and privacy" as she navigates through preventive chemotherapy. The 42-year-old princess, who had been absent from public view since Christmas, expressed gratitude for the outpouring of love and support from well-wishers.

“I wanted to take this opportunity to say thank you, personally, for all the wonderful messages of support and for your understanding whilst I have been recovering from surgery," the Princess said. “It has been an incredibly tough couple of months for our entire family, but I’ve had a fantastic medical team who have taken great care of me, for which I am so grateful.

“In January, I underwent major abdominal surgery in London and at the time, it was thought that my condition was non-cancerous. The surgery was successful. “However, tests after the operation found cancer had been present. My medical team therefore advised that I should undergo a course of preventative chemotherapy and I am now in the early stages of that treatment.

“This of course came as a huge shock, and William and I have been doing everything we can to process and manage this privately for the sake of our young family. As you can imagine, this has taken time. It has taken me time to recover from major surgery in order to start my treatment."

The decision to delay the public announcement of her diagnosis was primarily motivated by a desire to shield her three young children – Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis – from the tumult of media speculation and ensure they were informed in a manner suitable for their tender age.

“Most importantly, it has taken us time to explain everything to George, Charlotte and Louis in a way that is appropriate for them, and to reassure them that I am going to be ok," Kate explained.

The timing of her announcement, coinciding with the end of the school term and the commencement of the royal family's Easter holiday, underscores the meticulous consideration afforded to every aspect of this deeply personal revelation.

Image: Supplied

William Shatner shocks hosts simply by revealing his age

In a world where time ticks mercilessly onward, one man has defied the very essence of ageing: the legendary William Shatner, the man who boldly went where no nonagenarian has gone before.

As Shatner prepares to celebrate his 93rd trip around the sun, fans worldwide are scratching their heads in disbelief. The reason? Well, it seems that Captain Kirk himself has stumbled upon the fountain of youth and decided to keep it all to himself.

The commotion started when Shatner made a guest appearance on the US Today Show, looking fresher than a daisy in springtime. Fans took to social media to express their shock, with one incredulous viewer commenting, "Damn, he's still sharp and has his hair. I would never have guessed 93." And another chimed in with, "I would've guessed 67 or 68."

Forget "live long and prosper"; it seems the new motto is "live long and confound the heck out of everyone".

Even the hosts of the Today Show were left flabbergasted by Shatner's youthful glow. They couldn't resist asking the man himself for his secret to longevity. And what pearls of wisdom did he impart? "Don't tell anybody [your age]." Ah, sage advice indeed. It seems the real secret to ageing gracefully is to maintain an air of mystery.

But let's rewind to 2021 when Shatner was grilled by a journalist about whether he'd had any "serious work" done. His response? A witty comeback, of course. "No, have you?" Touché, Shatner, touché. And when pressed further, he simply attributed his youthful appearance to good genes, lots of horseback riding and a healthy dose of bewilderment about the world.

Despite his apparent disdain for the number 90 ("It's disgusting," he once declared in an interview), Shatner finds himself hurtling towards the ripe old age of 93 with all the grace and poise of a starship navigating through a meteor shower. And if his recent TV appearance is anything to go by, he's showing no signs of slowing down.

So let's all take a leaf out of Shatner's playbook, shall we? If anyone asks for the secret to your eternal youth, just give them that trademark Shatner smirk and say: "It's classified."

Images: NBC | Wikimedia | Tik Tok

"Offer is on the table": New James Bond actor revealed

In a world where the only constant is change, one thing remains certain: James Bond will always be suave, sophisticated, and British.

The search for the next 007 has been a rollercoaster of speculation, rumours and hopes dashed faster than a villain's escape plan. But now the wait appears to be over. The man most likely in line to be the next James Bond has been revealed, and his name is Taylor-Johnson ... Aaron Taylor-Johnson.

According to a report from The Sun on Tuesday, Eon Productions, the brilliant minds behind the iconic spy franchise, appear to have finally settled on their man. According to sources as reliable as Bond's impeccable taste in martinis, Taylor-Johnson is set to don the tuxedo and wield the Walther PPK in the next instalment of the series. Well, at least if he accepts the offer.

“Bond is Aaron’s job, should he wish to accept it," The Sun reported. "The formal offer is on the table and they are waiting to hear back.

“As far as Eon is concerned, Aaron is going to sign his contract in the coming days and they can start preparing for the big announcement.”

Now, some of you might be scratching your heads, wondering, "Aaron who?"

Aaron Taylor-Johnson is an English actor, which automatically makes him qualified for the role. Plus, he's been in action films like Tenet, Bullet Train and Avengers: Age of Ultron. So, he's no stranger to high-stakes thrills and spills. Also, did we mention he's British? Because that's kind of a prerequisite.

At 33 years of age, Taylor-Johnson would be the youngest actor to step into Bond's impeccably polished shoes since George Lazenby back in 1969. Talk about big shoes to fill. But if anyone can handle the pressure, it's our man Aaron.

Now, some purists might be clutching their martini glasses in horror, lamenting the departure of Daniel Craig, who graced our screens for five thrilling films. But fear not, for change is the spice of life, and if there's one thing Bond knows how to handle, it's change. Besides, who wouldn't want to see what Taylor-Johnson brings to the table? Maybe he'll introduce a new signature drink or a quirky catchphrase. The possibilities are as endless as Bond's list of conquests.

The response to The Sun's announcement has caused a few reactions across the globe, with 9News reporting that "A source with knowledge of the situation tells CNN that Johnson has not been cast as Bond. And, BBC News reports that a 'production insider' said there is no truth to the rumours about Taylor-Johnson's casting."

So, as we eagerly await the official announcement from Eon Productions, let us raise our glasses to Aaron Taylor-Johnson, the next suave superspy set to save the world, one shaken, not stirred, adventure at a time.

Images: Getty / Twitter (X)

It's a timely revelation, shedding light on the personal struggles behind the legendary musician's enduring career.

During a panel discussion, Simon disclosed the impact of his hearing loss on his recent stage experiences. While he's regained some comfort in singing and playing instruments, he noted difficulties when certain instruments overshadow his own voice.

"If there's a drum or an electric guitar," he revealed, "it's too loud and I can't hear my voice. But when I first lost the hearing, I couldn't get – it threw me off."

It's a frustration that resonates deeply with any performer reliant on auditory cues for their craft.

Simon's journey with hearing loss began suddenly, with the loss predominantly affecting his left ear. In a previous interview, he described the initial frustration and annoyance at the unexplained condition, hoping it would eventually resolve itself.

"Nobody has an explanation, so everything became more difficult," he said in a Times interview in May 2023. "My reaction to that was frustration and annoyance; not quite anger yet, because I thought it would pass, it would repair itself."

Despite the challenges, he's found solace and creative expression through his daily guitar playing, using it as both a creative outlet and a source of comfort during trying times.

Reflecting on his musical journey alongside Art Garfunkel, Simon highlighted the enduring impact of their collaboration. From their humble beginnings as schoolmates in New York to becoming one of the best-selling music acts of the 1960s and 1970s, Simon & Garfunkel's legacy is undeniable. Their timeless hits, including "The Sound of Silence," "Mrs Robinson," and "Bridge Over Troubled Water," continue to resonate with audiences worldwide.

Despite occasional tensions and artistic differences that led to their split in 1970, Simon & Garfunkel's partnership endured, marked by intermittent reunions for select performances. Their ability to transcend personal conflicts in the pursuit of their shared musical vision speaks volumes about their dedication to their craft and the enduring power of their bond.

While Simon's journey may have taken an unexpected turn, his musical legacy continues to shine brightly, resonating with generations past, present and future.

Images: Getty

Princess Diana's brother reveals tragic secret

Charles Spencer has bravely detailed the alleged sexual abuse he experienced as a child.

The younger brother of Princess Diana, now 59, initially made the revelation that he was abused as a child while in boarding school when he was 42.

Now, the 9th Earl Spencer is recalling the alleged trauma in his new memoir A Very Private School, and the first moment he told anyone about the abuse he experienced.

“I was doing a 10-day course of very deep introspection and therapy,” he told Fox News Digital.

“My therapist said to each of us, ‘Whisper to me one secret you’d never told anyone.’ I whispered to him that I was sexually abused as a child by an adult.

"And I remember him looking so shocked, and he had heard it all. Afterwards, he took me aside and said, ‘This is very serious stuff.’”

He added that at that stage, he already had children, and having kids of his own made him realise how devastating his experience was.

“I suddenly put it into context. What if one of my children of either gender had been subjected to this as an 11-year-old? It made my blood boil," he said.

"I then started to allow myself to feel the full devastation of what had happened to me.”

Spencer was eight when he was enrolled at Maidwell Hall, an elite English boarding school, and he claimed that it didn't take long for him to witness and experience incidents of alleged abuse.

He claimed that he was groomed and sexually abused at age 11 by an assistant matron at the school, who was 19 or 20 years old.

“It was a brutal experience,” he claimed in his memoir.

“The headmaster was a sadistic pedophile. He staffed a very small number of teachers in this place who were either … perverted or would never tell tales against him. There wasn’t really anyone to go to.“

He added that the beatings had become "a ritual part of every day," and his parents had no idea the extent of what was going on behind closed doors.

The royal also alleged that one student was whipped so badly he struggled to take off his pants at night because the dried blood and clothing stuck to his skin, and that it took two weeks for him to recover.

Spencer claimed he was allowed to write a letter to his parents once a week, with the messages being supervised so he was unable to tell his parents what was going on.

“We were just left there at the mercy of some really dangerous people,” Spencer alleged.

He said that meeting with other former pupils was what motivated him to write the new memoir, and revisit the painful memories of his past.

The historian recalled the moment he met another former student, who kept quiet about the abuse he experience because it was so traumatising.

"He told me how he was made to feel worthless every day, how he’d been seriously sexually assaulted as a nine-year-old three times by somebody who was meant to protect him," he recalled.

“I took 10 pages of notes, stopped and said, ‘This is too terrible — I can’t tell this story.’ He reached across, grabbed my arm and said, ‘Somebody has to do it – it’s got to be you.’ That convinced me, the truth needed to be shared with the world.”

The 9th Earl also said that he is undergoing “a very effective” post-traumatic stress disorder treatment, as well as Tai Chi and breathing exercises.

“I’ve got a whole armoury of support techniques to try and get to a better place,” he shared.

Image: Getty

Hollywood star reveals breast cancer diagnosis

Olivia Munn has revealed that she was diagnosed with breast cancer last year, and has undergone a double mastectomy following her diagnosis.

In an emotional post shared on Instagram, the actress shared a series of photos of her receiving treatment over the past year, and how she first found out about her diagnosis in an effort to "help others find comfort, inspiration and support on their own journey".

"In February of 2023, in an effort to be proactive about my health, I took a genetic test that checks you for 90 different cancer genes," she said.

"I tested negative for all, including BRCA (the most well-known breast cancer gene). Kate Winslet reveals secret health battle

Kate Winslet has opened up about a secret health battle that she faced following the success of Titanic in the late 1990s.

The British actress shared how the global success of the film propelled her into stardom, which welcomed a whole new level of scrutiny about her image.

Now, the 48-year-old has spoken candidly about her battles with an eating disorder during the height of her fame.

"I never told anyone about it," Winslet told the New York Times.

"Because guess what – people in the world around you go: 'Hey, you look great! You lost weight!'"

Now, even 26 years after the peak of the attention, Winslet says that "even the compliment about looking good is connected to weight. And that is one thing I will not let people talk about."

"If they do, I pull them up straight away."

While this is the first time Winslet admitted to having an eating disorder, it is not the first time she has addressed unwelcome comments over her appearance.

On a podcast in 2022, the actress said she wished she had hit back at critics of her body at the time instead of remaining silent.

"I would have said, 'Don't you dare treat me like this. I'm a young woman, my body is changing, I'm figuring it out, I'm deeply insecure, I'm terrified, don't make this any harder than it already is'," Winslet said on the Happy Sad Confused podcast.

She continued, "It can be extremely negative. People are subject to scrutiny that is more than a young, vulnerable person can cope with. But in the film industry, it is really changing."

"When I was younger my agent would get calls saying, 'How's her weight?' I kid you not. So it's heartwarming that this has started to change."

Palace reveals King Charles' serious health diagnosis

In a sombre announcement from Buckingham Palace, it has been confirmed that King Charles III, aged 75, has been diagnosed with cancer following his recent hospital treatment for benign prostate enlargement.

The news has sent shockwaves across the nation and beyond, prompting an outpouring of support and concern for the monarch.

The palace statement, released early on Tuesday morning, revealed that the king is set to commence treatment immediately, expressing gratitude to his medical team for their swift intervention. The announcement also disclosed that King Charles III will be stepping back from "public-facing" duties during the course of his treatment.

"Throughout this period, His Majesty will continue to undertake State business and official paperwork as usual," the palace said. "The King is grateful to his medical team for their swift intervention, which was made possible thanks to his recent hospital procedure. He remains wholly positive about his treatment and looks forward to returning to full public duty as soon as possible.

"His Majesty has chosen to share his diagnosis to prevent speculation and in the hope it may assist public understanding for all those around the world who are affected by cancer."

While the monarch reassures the public that he will continue to undertake state business and official paperwork, the decision to reduce public appearances reinforces the seriousness of the situation. This news has raised questions about the nature and extent of the king's illness, as the palace has not specified the type of cancer he is facing.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and UK Chancellor Rishi Sunak have both extended their well-wishes for a speedy recovery. As the public absorbs this disconcerting news, concerns deepen with additional developments within the royal family. Prince Harry, who has been estranged from the family, is reportedly set to travel to the UK to be with his ailing father. This comes at a time when the family is already grappling with strained relationships, particularly between Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan, and the rest of the royals.

The situation is further complicated by the recent withdrawal of the Prince of Wales, William, from public duties to care for his wife, Catherine, who underwent abdominal surgery.

King Charles III ascended to the throne after the passing of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, in September 2022, and his coronation took place in May of the following year. The unexpected revelation of his battle with cancer adds a layer of uncertainty to an already tumultuous period for the royal family and the nation as a whole.

While the king remains positive about his treatment, the absence of specific details about the type of cancer and the potential impact on his public duties leaves the public in a state of unease.

Image: Getty Images

You're going to freeze to death," she said.

Cheryl pointed out another valid reason to opt for long pants on a flight, stating, "Say we have an evacuation. You have to go down the slide. Your butt cheeks are going to be sizzled off.”

Lastly, Cheryl urged travellers to never book less than a three-hour connection between flights.

"Delays can happen for a million and one reasons. The likelihood that you're going to miss your connection is pretty high if you're booking shorter than three hours," she said.
