This motorised suitcase is the future of luggage

Have you ever looked on in envy as those motorised carts transport people through airport terminals? Well here's an alternative: The electric suitcase.

The makers of Modobag came up with the idea as they were dragging their luggage through an airport, taking turns sitting on top.

Claiming to get people to their destination three times faster than walking, the motorised suitcase is not in the shops yet but you could see people zipping through the airport by January.

The US company behind Modobag originally set a goal to raise US$50,000 (AU$70,000) through crowd-funding website, Indiegogo and received more than US$130,000.

The idea of speeding (well kind of... it reaches 13kmh) through the airport while everyone else drags their luggage is certainly appealing. It even has a USB port to charge your phone.

But is it too good to be true? Setting aside the fact that a "super early bird" deal advertises the bag for a whopping US$995, is it worth the cringe factor? It makes us think of the kids' ride-on suitcases, Trunki, you often see parents dragging through airports.

But Trunki went on to make millions, so perhaps Modobag will too.

Video credit: Modobag / YouTube

First appeared on Stuff.co.nz.

Related links:

Spot what’s wrong with this carry-on luggage

How to ensure your bag is never misplaced

7 tips to keep belongings safe on a flight
