Newly revealed diary entry shows Queen Elizabeth's final moments

A previously unseen diary entry from Queen Elizabeth's private secretary has revealed the final moments of the late monarch's life.

Sir Edward Young dutifully recorded every moment of the Queen's life, including Her Majesty's last moments at Balmoral surrounded by her family.

“Very peaceful,” he wrote. “In her sleep. Slipped away. Old age. She wouldn’t have been aware of anything. No pain.”

The private diary entry was lodged in the Royal Archives and has not been made public until now.

Queen Elizabeth passed away at the age of 96 on September 8th 2022 at her beloved Balmoral Castle in Scotland, as she was surrounded by the royal family.

Others who were by the Queen’s bedside included the Queen’s senior dresser and trusted confidante, Angela Kelly, along with the Rev Kenneth MacKenzie, a minister, who read to her from the Bible.

The diary entry comes from a new book Charles III: New King, New Court. The Inside Story, written by royal expert Robert Hardman, who shared other details from the Queen's final moments.

The book notes that after King Charles sat by his mother's bedside for hours before her death, he went out to forage mushrooms to clear his head.

It was when he was returning to Balmoral Castle that he was informed his mother has died.

After her death, a footman brought a locked red box of paperwork found by her deathbed.

In it, were two sealed letters: one to her son and heir, Charles, and the other, addressed to Young.

The box also contained her final royal order: her choice of candidates for the prestigious Order of Merit for ‘exceptionally meritorious service’ across the Commonwealth.

Hardman writes in the new book, “Even on her deathbed, there had been work to do. And she had done it.”

Princess Beatrice has shared the “most terrifying moment” that she encountered at work.

The 35-year-old royal has been open about her struggles with dyslexia, and has opened up on a podcast about a major challenge she faced at work.

"I was anecdotally talking about how difficult it was at work," Beatrice, who works for US-based technology firm Afiniti, told podcast host Kate Griggs.

"Sometimes you get handed a whiteboard pen and you've got to do the group think again and collaborate and off you go to the whiteboard."

"And I was thinking that's the most terrifying moment for me in my life, and please don't ever make me do it. I'll do a speech tomorrow but don't give me a pen and a whiteboard."

Beatrice also shared the difficulties she faced as a child, and having to go through school before being formally diagnosed with dyslexia.

"The early days of school really, really stand out as to those moments where you just don't fit in and you can't figure out what it is about you," the royal said candidly.

"I remember trying to do extra lessons with teachers and just sort of blankly staring up at her face, and she was like, 'why are you looking at me? The words are not on my face' [and] I said 'well, they're not on the page either'."

"So the early days, in and around that understanding that my brain worked slightly differently, I remember them being a real challenge."

Princess Beatrice became emotional when talking about the teachers who helped her during her schooling career, saying she "probably wouldn't be the person I am today if they hadn't been there in my life".

The princess also paid tribute to her mum, Sarah Ferguson, for championing her to find a new way to do things.

"My family and I are incredibly close, so I would say that all throughout our lives, we've been able to go through everything with humour and with joy and my mum really instilled that," Beatrice said.

"His worst moment as a person": Sean Penn unleashes on Will Smith's Oscar's slap

Sean Penn has become visibly angry as he recalled the infamous moment at the 2022 Oscars ceremony when Will Smith stormed the stage to slap Chris Rock.

Penn recalled the award ceremony moment as he reflected on the Academy's decision to not let Ukraine’s president, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, speak at the ceremony.

The actor has been a strong advocate for the people of Ukraine in their ongoing war against Russia, and even traveling to the war-torn region to help in their fight.

Speaking to Variety, Penn shared how frustrated he was that Zelenskyy was silenced, while Smith's actions were the real problem.

“The Oscars producer thought, ‘Oh, he’s [Zelenskyy] not lighthearted enough.’ Well, guess what you got instead? Will Smith.”

Variety noted that the actor was visibly infuriated speaking on the subject, even turning red during the interview.

“I don’t know Will Smith. I met him once,” Penn said. “He seemed very nice when I met him. He was so f***ing good in King Richard.”

“So why the f**k did you just spit on yourself and everybody else with this stupid f***ing thing? Why did I go to f***ing jail for what you just did? And you’re still sitting there? Why are you guys standing and applauding his worst moment as a person?” the 63-year-old said, referencing his 1987 arrest and jail stint for punching a film extra in the face.

“This f***ing bulls**t wouldn’t have happened with Zelenskyy,” Penn added. “Will Smith would never have left that chair to be part of stupid violence. It never would have happened.”

Penn was so shocked and infuriated by the moment that he chose to destroy his two Oscars.

"I thought, ‘Well, f**k, you know? I’ll give them to Ukraine. They can be melted down to bullets they can shoot at the Russians,’” he said.

When visiting Zelenskyy in Ukraine last fall, Penn showed his support by giving the leader one of his Oscars.

At the 2022 Oscar's ceremony, Will Smith stormed the stage and slapped comedian Chris Rock after he made a joke about his wife, Jada Pinkett-Smith.

After returning to his seat, Smith shouted out, “Keep my wife’s name out your f***ing mouth!”

Ed Sheeran fans left devastated moments before show

Ed Sheeran has been forced to abruptly cancel his show in Las Vegas, just hours before it was set to begin.

The British singer-songwriter, who is coming to the end of his Mathematics World Tour, broke the news to devastated fans on Sunday, saying he was "so sorry" for the last minute cancellation.

Sheeran wrote on Instagram, “I can’t believe I’m typing this but there’s been some challenges encountered during the load in of our Vegas show."

He continued, “It’s impossible to go forward with the show. I’m so sorry. I know everyone has travelled in for this and I wish I could change it."

“The gig will be postponed to Saturday October 28th and all purchased tickets will be valid for that date. I’m so, so sorry x.”

Fans were quick to express their disappointment, with many saying they had travelled to attend the show and weren't able to come back for the postponed gig.

One fan wrote, “I can’t believe we travelled all the way to Vegas 10 hours to see Ed Sheeran for him to cancel less than an hour before the show."

“My poor husband a disabled vet along with so many people standing waiting on 103 degree heat to be turned away!!! I can’t come back in October, and no refund!!”

Many demanded an explanation as to how the gig could be cancelled at such short notice, to which Ed took to Instagram again in the hours after the cancellation to shed some light on the issue.

According to his statement on Instagram, the show was cancelled over safety concerns when two tall towers, used to hold up the stage and lighting equipment, had become unstable.

Despite best efforts to restabilise the structures, the issue then travelled to the safety of the floor, which was set to hold 65,000 concertgoers, and the whole show had to be cancelled.

Adding to the explanation, Sheeran wrote, "I really am gutted, this was very much out of my control but I do take full responsibility for everyone that was put out from the cancellation. Of course refunds are available at point of purchase, and there is a rescheduled show October the 28th if people still want to come, I promise it will be special."

"We really thought the show was going to happen up until the very last moment but it just couldn’t for safety reasons. Sorry again to everyone affected, and hopefully see you in October x".

“I don’t have that in me at this moment”: Christina Applegate's sad announcement

Christina Applegate continues to hint that she may be retiring from acting.

The star has given a heartbreaking career update, following her announcement in August that she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis.

In a recent interview, the actress opened up about the difficulty of filming the final season with her condition, and how reluctant she is to return to another set.

“Right now, I couldn’t imagine getting up at 5am and spending 12 to 14 hours on a set,” Applegate told the Los Angeles Times. “I don’t have that in me at this moment.”

Applegate has been nominated for a Screen Actors Guild award for her role as Jen Harding, and she revealed, “It’s my last awards show as an actor probably, so it’s kind of a big deal.”

In August 2021, Applegate announced her diagnosis and took some time off work for her treatment and to “grieve”.

“Shooting the show was the hardest thing I’ve ever done in my life because I was diagnosed during shooting, and I didn’t know it was happening to me,” she told The Kelly Clarkson Show in December 2022.

She told the Los Angeles Times that watching the final season of Dead to Me was not enjoyable for her to watch. “I don’t like seeing myself struggling. I gained 40 pounds because of inactivity and medications, and I didn’t look like myself, and I didn’t feel like myself,” she said.

Earlier this year, Applegate slammed down an internet troll after she was accused of getting “bad” plastic surgery.

“MS didn’t make you look that way,” the person wrote.

Applegate took to twitter, positing a screenshot of the troll’s message, adding “What is wrong with people. By the way, I laughed,”

“When people see me now as a disabled person, I want them to feel comfortable. That we can laugh about it,” Applegate explained on the The Kelly Clarkson Show.

Applegate was also recently given a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and during her acceptance speech she was seen with a manicure that read “FU MS.”

She said she’s doing “her best” to get through it.

How an inspired moment led to a creative new path after retirement

Seventy-year-old Bruce Blomfield is an inspirational character who decided to pursue his passion for yoga when he retired. Here 54-year-old yoga instructor, Tracy Adshead, interviews Bruce about his story and why he thinks that yoga offers something for everyone.

Tracy: How did it all start?

Bruce: When I decided to retire in 2014, I joined a yoga group on a trip to Nepal, where we assisted with resource development in a remote village and also practiced yoga with the spectacular Himalayas as a backdrop. Our yoga teacher on the trip was very enthusiastic about the success she was having with her chair yoga classes for seniors in her Australian hometown. This got me thinking – maybe this was something I could work toward as a retirement pursuit and offer as a service to other seniors in my community.

Tracy: As someone over 60 were there any particular challenges to completing the teacher training?

Bruce: I had a ‘mid-life crisis’ about 20 years ago and changed career direction, this entailed quite a bit of academic study which I thrived on. However, when I launched into the academic content of the yoga teacher training, along with the physical and emotional challenges, the brain took some ‘serious encouragement’ to take up the challenge; bit of a wake-up call. My brain believed it had been pensioned off!

Anything worthwhile requires effort and the teacher-training programme certainly endorsed this! Squatting on the floor for long periods with my old bones was interesting and it quickly forced my brain and body out of retirement mode. Physical, mental/academic and emotional challenges meant I had to dig deep but the rewards have been enriching in every way – new friendships, a renewed personal commitment and confidence.

What I experienced was an ongoing ‘tension’ between challenging myself with new mental, emotional and physical tasks whilst at the same time needing to offer myself, and my body forgiveness, along with a lot of self-love, when some parts were out of reach!

Tracy: Have your experiences of teaching or practicing yoga changed your view of ageing at all?

Bruce: I took up yoga about 14 years ago largely due to injuries from a 30+ year farming career – including a hip replacement. As I age and my yoga journey progresses, I gain great confidence and solace from the physical and mental benefits that yoga provides me with. Yoga offers something for everyone – there is no need to vegetate due to restricted mobility, or some form of physical incapacitation. I believe now that ageing does require you to maintain a certain non-judgemental demeanour about yourself as you stumble through.

Tracy: What advice would you offer anyone approaching retirement about pursuing a new venture?

Bruce: Probably for the first time in your life you can really ‘go with the flow’ – if you have a passion for something - give it a shot. Whether it works or not the experience is a huge growth curve – you learn so much about yourself. Maintain self-love it will bring you contentment, as I mentioned - anything worthwhile requires effort! Take a deep breath and give it a go.

Tracy: What are you up to when you're not teaching yoga?

Bruce: My wife and I have three children and six grandchildren who are a big part of our lives. We like to travel each year and spend time with friends. I also read, swim and have a gym routine which I practice on a regular basis. And of course now I’m very involved in my community teaching Chair Yoga at our local retirement village. I’m not sure who motivates who – but we have a blast during these classes!

Images: Getty

"Breakthrough moment": Charles and Camilla's "secret son" shares new pics

Simon Dorante-Day, the Australian man who made headlines with his claim to be King Charles and Camilla’s son, has taken to social media to share a side-by-side comparison of himself and his would-be royal family.

Simon initially posted a picture of himself at the age of 23 to celebrate his 57th birthday, with many in the comments telling him that he looked just like Prince William in the snap.

A short while later, Simon posted the comparison of himself, Charles, and William, all appearing to be around the same age when their respective pictures were taken.

As Simon told 7News.com.au, “photo comparisons like this are so important to my case. It’s always a breakthrough moment.”

It was more than enough proof for Simon’s supporters, with over a hundred comments soon piling onto the post, all celebrating the resemblance they found between the three.

“As soon as I saw your post I couldn't believe how much you and William look alike,” one wrote. “I can't wait till the truth comes out and [you] take your rightful place.

“Just remarkable,” said another. “Hopefully this is the year Charles acknowledges you and your dear brothers and their families know that you have always been out there in the world.

“I actually thought it was an old photo of William!” confessed one.

“When I saw your post earlier where you told us it was your birthday, I initially thought it was a photo of Prince William accompanying it!,” someone else agreed.

“The resemblance speaks for itself,” came further belief in the father-of-nine’s claim.

Meanwhile, one follower’s thoughts turned to Camilla, and what must be going through her mind if Simon was actually correct, writing that she “wonder[s] how Camilla feels every year on your real birthday because only she can know how it felt.”

It’s a thought that Simon seems to have had as well, with the Australian confessing that while his birthday is “just another one” for him, he often considers what they might be thinking on the big day.

“Especially Camilla,” he said, “not like she doesn’t know.”

He went on to explain that despite this, it was “their loss” in having nothing to do with him, his wife, or their nine children. However, it isn’t enough to stop him from getting to the bottom of his family tree ‘mystery’, with Simon telling 7News that he has every intention of getting answers from a DNA test.

“Supporters and visitors to my Facebook pages are always sending me comparisons,” he noted. ““But it’s important for people to know that my belief that Charles and Camilla are my parents isn’t based on photos.

“I have a lot of research that backs up my claims, a lot of evidence. And I want people to remember that my case has spent a long time in the courts, trying to find a resolution, and my legal battles are still continuing.”

And as he had admitted in the past, it was all about his desire to know who his real parents are. He believed it all stemmed from that search, and “the thought that it could be Charles and Camilla didn’t come into it until much later on - for years I was simply searching for my parents.

“But then eventually, all the evidence just kept on coming back to Charles and Camilla.”

Images: Facebook

The most cringe-worthy moments from the Oscars

On Hollywood’s night of nights, there were many standout moments that had movie fans everywhere cheering on the deserving winners, and those that were rightly dubbed best dressed on the carpet.

However, despite the record-breaking wins and wholesome on-stage moments, it seems not everyone was happy with how the night panned out.

Media personality Piers Morgan had his own hot takes from the night, naming and shaming the most cringe-worthy moments and worst fashion fails.

From awkward moments on the champagne carpet to an endless series of highly questionable outfits, the British broadcaster had some interesting thoughts on the night.

He started his attack on acting legend Hugh Grant, who “humiliated” a reporter during an interview that was very hard to watch.

Hugh Grant was chatting with Ashley Graham in what can only be described as a quintessentially British interview, as he gave short one-worded answers.

Hugh Grant with the greatest Red Carpet interview of all time pic.twitter.com/cK0E8pBcWK

— Jared Christopher (@JaredLChris) March 13, 2023

His reluctance to participate in the back and forth pleasantries infuriated Morgan, as he slammed the actor, saying, “If you don’t want to speak to the media, why the hell walk down the longest red carpet in show business?”

While Piers seemed outraged by the exchange, others simply called it “the greatest interview of all time”, praising Grant for his nonchalance.

Piers also took issue with any kind of light-heartedness on the stage, as he complained about the brief appearance of the “Cocaine Bear”, wishing for it to be “euthanized live on air”.

He also took issue with the overwhelming applause given to Jenny the donkey, known for her role in The Banshees of Inisherin, wondering why the mute mule was given “more applause than most of the overly verbose winners”.

Before the show began, all eyes were on the stars of Hollywood and their jaw-dropping fashion choices as they made their way down the gold carpet.

But unfortunately for some A-listers, their outfits were just not right for the champagne carpet, or even their age.

Rihanna chose to highlight her baby bump with a mixture of sheer tulle and black leather in a bondage-style gown, while Lady Gaga chose to take the drop-waist trend to a whole new level by showing off her ass-ets.

Nicole Kidman left half her dress at home, while accessorising with enormous flowers in places no flowers should ever be.

Eva Longoria left nothing to the imagination with her plunging gown, while Sofia Carson was channelling 2003 bridal couture with her white ball gown.

Allison Williams draped herself in her grandmother’s curtains to pair with her pink lace dress, while singer Tems had no regard for those sitting behind her with her sculptural gown, and Janelle Monae channelled her inner teen with a crop top and clashing skirt.

Despite all the drama on and off the stage, this year’s Oscars was full of deserving winners, heart-warming speeches and (some) stunning fashion moments, leaving us counting down to next year’s awards.

Dazzling looks, memorable moments, and award sweeps: The best of the 2023 Oscars

Actors, producers, and creative souls from all over arrived at Los Angeles’ Dolby Theatre to strut their sparkle down the 2023 Oscars’ champagne carpet.

The event, otherwise known as Hollywood’s night of nights, was always set to break records and draw attention from film fanatics across the globe - hopefully for all the right reasons - with the likes of Everything Everywhere All at Once, Elvis, The Banshees of Inisherin, and Top Gun: Maverick up for Best Picture.

In fact, Everything Everywhere All at Once was nominated for 11 awards by itself, with All Quiet on the Western Front and The Banshees of Inisherin following right behind with an astounding nine nominations each.

Everything Everywhere All at Once snagged a staggering seven awards in the end - most notably, the cast and crew secured the top honour of Best Picture for all of their hard work.

In the Hollywood comeback of the decade, Best Actor went to Brendan Fraser for his part in The Whale, and Best Actress to the multi-talented Michelle Yeoh for her performance in Everything Everywhere All at Once, who took the opportunity to remind women everywhere that “you are never past your prime”. Michelle also made history with her win as both the first Best Actress nominee and winner to openly identify as Asian.

Meanwhile, their supporting award counterparts went to Everything Everywhere All at Once’s Ke Huy Quan and Jamie Lee Curtis.

There wasn’t a dry eye in the house when Ke Huy Quan accepted his award - and made history as the first Vietnam-born actor to ever do so. He began by thanking his 84-year-old mother, who was watching from the comfort of home, saying “my journey started on a boat. I spent a year in a refugee camp, and somehow I ended up here on Hollywood’s biggest stage.

“They say stories like this only happen in the movies. I can’t believe it’s happening to me - this is the American dream.”

Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert snagged Best Director for Everything Everywhere All at Once. And for those with a great appreciation for the songs that make moments come to life, MM Keeravaani and Chandrabose were awarded Best Song for the catchy hit ‘Naatu Naatu’ in RRR.

The ceremony also saw special guest appearances from The Banshees of Inisherin’s Jenny the Donkey, a fuzzy bear presenter, and appearances from a whole host of stars - as well as an emotional tribute to those Hollywood had lost over the past year, with John Travolta’s emotional words for the late Olivia Newton-John, to whom he remains “hopelessly devoted”.

But, of course, the Oscars aren’t only about who goes home with the coveted golden statues, and the stars paraded down the champagne carpet - formerly the red carpet - in typical fashion in a shower of shoulder pads, sparkle, and swagger.

Check out 2023’s best dressed and top moments below, and the full list of winners here.

Images: Getty

Emotional moment father discovers his daughter's ultimate act of selflessness

A woman has shared the emotional moment her father discovered she was the one who anonymously donated her kidney to help him fight kidney disease.

John Ivanowski, a 60-year-old man from Missouri in the US, was diagnosed with an immunoglobulin A (IgA) deficiency, which saw his immune system attack his kidneys, more than a year ago.

John was placed on dialysis for his condition, and ended up on the transplant list to replace his kidney.

When the Ivanowski family began discussing the transplant options, his 25-year-old daughter Delayne was determined to help give her father a better quality of life by donating her kidney.

John had lost his son and Delayne's only sibling to cancer 16 years ago, and was resistant to his daughter becoming his kidney donor.

"I thought, I lost my boy and if anything happened to Delayne, I don't know what I would do," he told ABC News, adding, "It was a big concern."

Despite her father's protests, Delayne, who works as a nurse, knew John would remain on the transplant list if she did not volunteer her kidney.

Delayne said, "I don't think that's any way that anybody should have to live."

She added, "I was like, 'I'm going to do it. I don't care how mad he is at me. I don't care if he kicks me out of the house or hates me or doesn't say a word to me for the rest of my life.'"

"At least he'll be living a good life and not hooked up to a machine."

Delayne then secretly went through the months-long approval process to become her dad's kidney donor, which meant getting endless medical tests, and fielding dozens of calls with social workers and medical staff, all while living under her parents' roof.

John then underwent his surgery at Washington University And Barnes-Jewish Transplant Center in St Louis, with hospital staff working hard to keep Delayne's secret.

Jason Wellen, who is the centre's kidney and pancreas transplant surgical director and John's doctor, said the staff had to do a lot of "behind-the-scenes" work to make sure the father and daughter were kept in separate pre-op areas, and had to ensure they didn't spot each other in post-op as well to maintain secrecy until Delayne was ready to break the news to John.

And when she did, the emotional moment was captured on video.

Filming the emotional moment she walked into her dad's hospital room hooked up to an IV drip after the surgery, John immediately knew what had happened without Delayne saying a word.

"Oh my God. Are you kidding me?" he says in the video, which was posted to TikTok and has been viewed more than four million times.

An emotional John then tells his daughter, "I knew you were up to something," to which she cheekily responds, "I'm always up to something."

Despite initially being "upset", John said he was grateful for his daughter's selfless act and it was a "big relief" not to be "hooked up to the machine anymore".

"I can't stop crying," he added.

“Music somehow stays”: Great-grandma with dementia recalls lullaby in heartwarming moment with newborn great-grandson

When Connie Lynn uploaded a touching video of her mother singing to her Instagram account, she didn’t expect it to reach so many people or to warm so many hearts.

The clip features the moment 89-year-old Elinor Hanson got to hold her one-day-old great-grandson, Grayson. Elinor, who had been diagnosed with dementia years before but whose condition had worsened since 2020, delighted the whole family when she began to sing a beloved lullaby to the newborn.

"Okay, it goes like this,” she tells the swaddled baby, before asking, “now, are you listening?"

In the moments to follow, Elinor begins her heartfelt rendition, singing as she rocks him in her arms, “I love you, a bushel and a peck. A bushel and a peck and a hug around the neck. A hug around the neck and a barrel and a heap. A barrel and a heap and I'm talking in my sleep about you, about you, 'cause I love you.”

A teary-eyed Elinor trails off to look up at the camera, and with an emotional chuckle tells her family, “I’m going to cry.”

“Great grandma meeting and holding her newest great grandson and singing a song she sung to all the grandkids,” Connie Lynn captioned the post.

“A song my kids know very well. I love you a bushel and a peck,” she continued, “this night made her so happy. It’s amazing how the brain can lose so much but music somehow stays. Music really is amazing for healing and memory.”

Connie’s comments section was flooded with grateful messages from those who had watched the video, with many of them opening up about their own experiences with family members who had and have dementia, and the beautiful moments they shared over babies and music as well.

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by Connie Lynn Hanson (@fsvivace)

“I saw this on the Good News feed. It warmed my heart and broke it at the same time,” one admitted, “my parents became great-grandparents near the end of their lives. The babies brought them such joy. My dad had dementia but when he saw the babies his eyes would light up and he would come back to life again, just for a moment. Thank you for sharing this with us.”

“Isn’t it amazing the things that can trigger a bit of normalcy,” another agreed, “a song, a baby, a photo.”

“The sweetest video ever. Both my dad and my brother suffered from Dementia,” a fellow grandmother shared, “it is such a cruel disease. I’m so glad this family will have this video to remember this sweet lady for years to come.”

Speaking to Today.com, Connie confessed that it was the moment right before her mum began singing that took her back to before she had dementia.

“It’s when she says, ‘okay, it goes like this, now you’re listening?,” she said, “that’s my mum that I remember.”

Connie opened up about her mother’s involvement in the lives of her children and grandchildren, calling her “the cookie-baking kind of grandma”, and a “musical lady” who liked to spend her time singing with choirs and at weddings.

With another great-grandchild on the way, Connie is positive that they’ll soon get another chance to hear Elinor’s sweet songs when the two meet.

Images: Instagram

Barnesy does the drop-off! Jimmy Barnes shares heart-warming moment with his grandson
