7 tips to help turn your cat into a friendly member of the family

How to make your cat love you

Getting a cat to be more affectionate is the yearning of many a pet owner. Some cats are antisocial when it comes to being picked up, cuddled or petted (much less sitting in a person’s lap). Other kitties are born loving this sort of attention.

If you’re not lucky enough to have a cat who automatically seeks out your affection, trying to entice that reclusive furball to become your snuggle buddy may take some motivation and determination on your part. Your pet may never convert to a drooly lap cat, even after weeks of effort on your part, but at the very least you’ll probably strengthen your relationship with your cat.

Get the basics down

The initial stage of coaxing a cat into being more lovable is to let her recognise your positive intentions by dependably offering her good food, clean water, fun toys to play with and a litterbox that is cleaned regularly. When she’s happier, you’ll be happier, and these mutual good feelings will carry over into your relationship together.

Spend extra time with your cat, letting her see you not as her owner but as her friend, meal provider and guardian. If she’s not coming up to you to say hi, be proactive: Walk over to her (as long as she’s not super-shy) and lavish affection on her. Once she gets used to all this attention, she might very well start seeking it out from you.

Be affectionate while feeding

While preparing her food (or making a production of opening that can of food), talk to your kitty. When she begins eating, gently stroke her a few times. This will help her associate being petted with a positive experience.

Be playful

Instead of trying to force a hug from your reluctant cat, play with her a little, maybe getting her to paw at a piece of string or chase after a laser pointer.

Try a little catnip

Bringing out a tin of catnip often brings timid felines out of their shells, and aloof cats sometimes become far friendlier under the influence of catnip.

Use the "slow blink"

Remember that using the “slow blink” as a non-verbal statement saying “I love you” will go a much longer way with your cat, versus a direct stare, which she may take as a threat.

Don't chase

Don’t try to push affection on your cat – for example, running after her. This might work with a dog, but chasing usually causes a scaredy cat to jolt off in another direction feeling victimised. And I should hope it goes without saying, but don’t punish or yell at your shy cat.

Give them a treat

Each time you share a session of tenderness with your cat, give her a treat. Let her see that this affectionate behaviour has its rewards.

This article originally appeared on Reader's Digest.

5 juicy confessions from cruise crew members

As you can probably imagine, when living on the high seas you get to pick up a story or two. While while most of these tales don’t make it back to shore, for the first time ever a few of these interesting stories have made their way to land.

Porthole Cruise Magazine has explored the industry to find five of the juiciest confessions from cruise crew members. You’ll never look at cruise staff the same way.

And of course, the staff member’s names have been kept anonymous.

1. One shore excursions manager told about the time she was woken up by 3am as two colleagues burst into her cabin. She said, “They woke up my roommate and I and were shouting to get our lifejackets on and to abandon ship, and then they ran out of the room. My roommate and I started freaking out, bumping into each other trying to find our lifejackets. Then we ran out of the room down the hallway in our pyjamas — only to be met by an entire group of crew members taking pictures and laughing. That was just Part One of our initiation.”

2. A cruise gift shop manager told Porthole about a dispute between dining room staff and restaurant management which resulted in a strike. As a result, staff managers from the other sections of the boat had to fill in, everyone from the casino to the beauty shop. She said, “We were instructed to bring as many of our staff members as we could spare to help serve more than 500 hungry guests. So there we all went, in our respective uniforms, off to the dining room to be waiters for the evening. I’m not sure how we did it, but we did. All of the guests managed to get their rolls, salads, entrĂ©es, coffee, and dessert while being served by an eclectic staff in an assortment of uniforms. That was the essence of good teamwork if I’ve ever seen it.”

3. Another anonymous cruise staff member told of a game she played when greeting guests walking into the dining room. She and her offsider decided to make a game of inserting wacky words into conversation. She said, “One of the most memorable words that we actually pulled off quite well, and surprisingly without realisation or offence to the guests, was penis. How? Guest walks through the door
. cruise staff says ‘Good Evening! Have you just come from the lounge? They have an amazing penis playing up there and the sing-a-long is great fun!” Guest smiled and answered: “YES! The pianist is one of the best I’ve seen on ships!’”

4. A cruise casino dealer recalls, “One of the hardest things I had to do as a casino dealer was to keep a straight face. And I’m not necessarily talking about because we were in the middle of an intense game. I’m talking about the times when certain guests, well, smelled. One time a player sat at my table and was letting out such bad gas that other players began to slowly inch away and eventually left the area. Truth be told: No matter what sights – and smells – I encountered, it was always a challenge to remain neutral. Perhaps this is the true origin of the term ‘poker face.’

5. A cabin steward told the story of cruisers who were continually complaining about bites. After three nights of complaints he, “Advised them to visit the onboard infirmary to see if they could identify the ‘bites’ and see if there was something that could be done for them. The nurse in the infirmary concluded that neither of them had bug bites, and that the red scratches on their arms were caused simply by their own fingernails. On the fourth day, the couple marched up to the front office and announced they had found the bugs and showed the guest relations manager a box containing the ‘bugs.’ When I was called to the front office to look at the bugs, everyone was laughing in disbelief. The guests had presented them with a small box full of lint.”

Image: Shutterstock

Tourist cops earful from member of Queen’s Guard

A tourist has learned the hard way to not interfere with the Queen’s guards, after she copped an earful from a guard for grabbing his horse’s reins.

During a recent trip to London, the woman went to pose for a photo next to the guard and his horse when her hand went to reach towards the animal, drawing the guard’s attention.

When she then touched the reins, he reacted by yelling with authority from atop his horse.

“Stand back from the Queen’s lifeguard, don’t touch the reins!” he yells.

A clip of the incident was shared by the woman’s step-son Ethan on TikTok, with the caption, “We will never return to London after this incident” and text across the footage reading, “Queens Guard Verbally Attacks My Step mum [sic]”.

Though Ethan commented the guard as a “rather angry little man”, a large number of commenters sided with the guard, arguing that he has an important job to do and that working animals like his horse shouldn’t be touched while on duty.

Image: TikTok

“It’s not Disney they are working horses and serving army,” one person said.

“Serves her right, you aren’t allowed to touch the guard,” another wrote.

“They have a job, just don’t go near them,” a third added.

British followers were particularly quick to defend his actions and respond to their decision not to return to London.

“The whole of London is so upset that you won’t be returning we’re all begging you to come back,” one person said.

“Every British person I know knows you don’t touch them, or is she one of them ones that would put her hand in the blender,” another wrote.

As some commenters pointed out, the horse’s reins are connected to the animal’s mouth - which is quite sensitive - and tugging on the reins could spook the animal, causing it to bite her or unseat the guard.

Others compared interfering with or touching the guard and his horse to doing the same to a guide dog, while 9Honey royal reporter Natalie Oliveri explained that as a rule, you shouldn’t touch animals that are on-duty.

"Also, as a general rule tourists should be respectful of any member of Her Majesty's guard while they are on duty – they are there for an important reason and no one should try to interfere with that,” Oliveri said.

She explained that it’s also best not to speak to members of the Queen’s Guard while they’re on duty, and that you shouldn’t expect a response from them.

"If you would like a photo, perhaps it's best to stand at a respectable distance and never interfere with their job,” she added.

Images: TikTok

Religious group members charged over eight-year-old’s death

Members of a religious group in southern Queensland have been charged over the death of an eight-year-old girl earlier this year.

Elizabeth Struhs died on January 7 at her home in Rangeville, Toowoomba, after she was allegedly denied insulin for the treatment of her type 1 diabetes for about six days, per the ABC.

Five men and six women have been charged as a result, with one 60-year-old man being charged with one count of murder and failing to supply the necessities of life, while the remaining eleven - aged between 19 and 65 years old - have been charged with one count of murder.

Elizabeth’s parents, Jason and Kerrie Struhs, have previously been charged with murder, torture, and failing to provide the necessities of life.

Police allege the dozen involved were aware of Elizabeth’s condition and didn’t seek medical assistance, adding that emergency services weren’t contacted until about 5.30pm on January 8.

It is alleged the parents and other members of the religious group prayed for Elizabeth’s recovery instead.

The charges laid against them come after six months of investigation by the Toowoomba Child Protection and Investigation Unit, the Child Trauma Unit, and the Homicide Investigation Unit.

More than 30 officers conducted a search at a residence in Harristown, where the 12 residents were arrested.

Detective Acting Superintendent Gary Watts said the investigation was unlike anything he had ever seen.

“In my 40 years of policing, I’ve never faced a matter like this,” he said.

“And I’m not aware of a similar event in Queensland, let alone Australia.”

According to sources that spoke to the ABC, the religious group is small, tight-knit, and has no ties to any established church in Toowoomba.

In a fundraiser set up to support Elizabeth’s siblings, her older sister Jayde Struhs said her estranged parents were part of a “fear-driven and controlling” cult that took religion to its extremes.

She said her younger sister’s death had left their extended family “completely shattered and heartbroken”.

“We have faced the brutal reality that the people who should have protected her did not, and we may never know the full extent of what took place,” she said.

The people charged in relation to Elizabeth’s death are expected to appear in court on Wednesday, while her parents will return to court later in July.

Image: Supplied

Deadly crash claims seven family members from three generations

A Year 11 student is one of two to survive a crash that killed seven of his relatives, including his younger brother and mother.

Luie Lagud, 16, was travelling in a van with family members spanning three generations on a whirlwind trip across the length of New Zealand’s South Island when the vehicle was involved in a head-on crash with a truck on Sunday morning.

The crash left the Toyota Hiace van completely destroyed and is the deadliest incident to occur in the country since April 2019.

According to the NZ Herald, the family have since given permission for the names of the deceased to be published.

Among the victims were Diseree Brown, 48, her husband Paul Brown, 61, and their son Mark.

Desiree’s sister, 56-year-old Divine Dolar, Divine’s daughter Flordeliza Dolar, 19, were also among those who died.

Luie and his older brother, 26-year-old Pedro Clariman, were the only two to survive.

However, Luie was in a coma and undergoing surgery on Monday after suffering significant spinal and head injuries and remains in intensive care.

Pedro’s partner and his infant daughter, Mika, tragically died in the crash.

Diseree’s three other children, David, Princess, and Joanna, didn’t travel with the family.

The night before, the family stayed in Rolleston, outside Christchurch, with a family friend. The man who identified himself as Bill called Newstalk ZB on Monday to confirm members of the “vibrant” family had died.

“They spent some of their last hours on earth with me on Saturday night, Sunday morning,” he told Canterbury Mornings host John MacDonald.

Having left Bill’s home at 2.30am on Sunday morning to catch a Cook Strait ferry back to the North Island, the van crossed the centreline and collided with a refrigerated goods truck in Picton at about 7.30am.

The truck driver suffered minor injuries.

The family had started their journey by travelling to Gore for the funeral of an elderly aunt, which 21-year-old David Lagud said he didn’t attend because he had to work and because he suffered from motion sickness.

“In a blink of an eye, it’s all gone,” David told the NZ Herald.

Videos posted throughout the trip showed the family laughing together, spending time with Pedro’s young daughter, and travelling across the country.

Since the incident, the principal of Pukekohe High School - which two of the family members were attending - emailed parents to advise them that two students were involved in the crash.

“One of our Year 10 students died at the scene of the accident. His older brother, in Year 11, remains in hospital. Our thoughts and condolences are with their family and close friends,” the email read.

“Students and staff who knew the two students well are being supported and cared for in school today. Additional counselling support has been made available, and the school is closely following advice from the Ministry’s Traumatic Incident team.”

David has also spoken to Pedro since the crash, who he said had minor injuries and was able to walk with difficulty.

Pedro told his brother what happened in the leadup to the crash, saying he had been driving when the family left Christchurch so that Paul could sleep in the front passenger seat for another four hours.

After that, Paul swapped with Pedro to complete the trip to the ferry and was well-rested when took the wheel.

Before falling asleep in the passenger seat, it is understood Pedro spent some time playing with his daughter.

Being asleep when the vehicles collided, it’s believed Pedro woke up to the carnage.

“He saw my dad’s body on the road and then my brother Luie, he was awake and then he collapsed,” David said.

“Then the next minute, the helicopter was there, taking my little brother to hospital.”

David said Pedro was grief-stricken to discover both his partner and daughter had died.

“He was devastated, he was crying a lot. Both of his loves are gone.”

The NZ Herald reported that police said the incident would be referred to the coroner for investigation.

Image: NZ Herald

Readers respond: Who is your favourite royal family member and why?

OverSixty readers are avid fans of the royal family and we thought it was time to ask who your favourite royal family member is and why.

Your responses didn’t disappoint and we can see why you appreciate the royal family.

Here are some of your answers.

Elizabeth Ann Bailey - The Queen...very hard public life 24/7. Everybody is just waiting for her to make a mistake. She is an amazing lady.

Jan Dower - Princess Anne, she quietly carries out her Royal duties without any fuss or fanfare. She is always dressed lovely, not as fashion conscious I guess as some of the other Royal ladies however it suits her.. She is loyal to her family, well spoken and she loves animals.

Ariete Jardim - Prince Harry because he is more normal than all the others and he says what he feels without having to check if it’s allowed or not.

Marilyn Spencer - Her Majesty the Queen, Prince Charles for his stance on conservation. Princess Anne, what you see is what you get. No pomp and ceremony just hard working Anne.

Wilma Mumford - Apart from the Queen I’d say Prince Harry! Sick of people downgrading him as I bet their lives aren't perfect.

Caroline Jay - Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth
She has served her country for 70 years and I’m sure it hasn’t all been easy, regardless of her luxury lifestyle. My next favourites have to be William and Kate.

Helen Joan Harmon - Princess Anne, the quiet achiever.

Alec Anne Phillips - A tie between the Queen and Princess Anne. They both earn their money with their dedication and hard work over decades without causing scandals. Princess Anne's first marriage and remarriage was done without the dramas of her two brothers.

Irene Hood - After all she's been through, the Queen is incredible. When most people her age are gone, or in aged care, she is active, intelligent and dedicated to the Commonwealth and having to put up with appalling behaviour from some of her family members. So, here's to the Queen, followed by Princess Anne, Sophie, William and Kate.

Julie HoyPoy - Princess Anne and Camilla, both quietly hard working.

If you would like to share your favourite royal family member click here.

Image: Shutterstock

A NSW woman had the police called on her after she attempted to drape an Indigenous flag honouring First Nations diggers at her local war memorial service in Lismore.

Cindy Roberts tried to display her flag beneath the Australian flag before the service began, but a local RSL member allegedly stopped her twice and called the police, according to the Daily Mail.

The incident has sparked outrage among those in attendance and online, with former Lismore mayor Jenny Dowell describing it as a “huge overreaction”.

“It wasn’t a huge protest in any way and was absolutely done respectfully,” she said.

“It was embarrassing and awkward and it should have just been allowed to pass without the fuss from the RSL member.”

Ms Roberts, whose daughter, grandparents and uncles have served in Australia’s armed forces, had taken part in the dawn service and the march to Lismore Memorial Baths for the ceremony.

When she arrived, the only flag flying was the Australian flag, despite other venues displaying the Aboriginal, Australian, and Torres Strait Islander flags side by side.

“I just wanted to remember my ancestors that had fought in every single war, including the frontier war,” she told Daily Mail Australia.

“So I stood and I felt a spirit in my heart tell me to just lay the flag out. I didn’t put it on the flagpole, I just placed it on the ground underneath the Australian flag.

“Then I was approached by a member from the RSL and asked to remove the flag.

“I said, ‘But my grandfathers and my uncles and my ancestors fought in the wars of this country’. He said, ‘This is not the time or the place’.”

“I thought, ‘Well, when is the time to bring unity?’”

Ms Roberts said she then picked the flag up and went to the spot where the wreaths were laid, where she was confronted again.

“Then (the RSL member) approached me again and told me to remove the flag again and with the police this time,” she continued.

“When this happened, I cried. I broke down and everyone saw me but I still stood there in the crowd behind the children with the Aboriginal flag.”

Ms Robert’s daughter Skye, who served as a ship technician in the Australian Navy for five years, was with her mother when the incident occurred.

Celebrated Indigenous soldier Clarrie Combo, who fought for Australia in Egypt, Libya, Crete, Syria, Greece, Sri Lanka and New Guinea during WWII, was one of Ms Roberts’ great uncles.

“Our people have been through so much and I’m tired of them not being acknowledged,” Ms Roberts said.

“First Nations people who fought in these wars deserve more respect because they put their lives on the line.”

Ms Dowell said she tried to reason with the RSL member and that she couldn’t understand why they were treating Ms Roberts.

“I saw the reaction from a member of the RSL who was saying repeatedly, it’s not appropriate, it’s not appropriate,” she told the publication.

“I didn’t quite know what was not appropriate. I thought it was very disappointing - and not one speaker in the whole ceremony even acknowledged country.

“I thought that was poor. The situation could have easily have escalated if Cindy had chosen to do so but she didn’t and many there may not have even noticed.

“I thought she was very respectful and hopefully we can all learn from this incident - and that it doesn’t happen again.”

The incident caused intense debate in the town’s Facebook group, with many supporting Ms Roberts.

“To the beautiful Indigenous woman advocating to raise the Indigenous flag today at the service following the march, I am beyond apologetic for the utter disrespect you were shown,” one local wrote.

Others insisted that the Australian flag should cover everyone since soldiers all fought under it in wartime.

“They fought under the Australian flag. We are all Australians,” one person said.

Image: Daily Mail

Royal Christmas in crisis after family member tests positive

Princess Anne’s husband Admiral Sir Timothy Laurence has tested positive for COVID-19, forcing the couple to isolate over Christmas.

Buckingham Palace confirmed Mr Laurence had contracted the virus, and that the couple will no longer visit the Queen at Windsor Castle for Christmas because they are self-isolating at home in Gloucestershire for the next ten days.

Royal aides have not yet confirmed who will attend Christmas Day celebrations at Windsor Castle, for the first Christmas Queen Elizabeth will spend without Prince Philip.

The Queen had earlier decided not to travel to her Sandringham estate for this year’s holiday celebrations out of an abundance of caution amid the rising number of COVID-19 cases related to the Omicron variant. Having been hospitalised earlier this year, ensuring the Queen’s good health is likely a priority this holiday season.

The royal family typically spends Christmas at their Sandringham estate in Norfolk, for celebrations that include a walk to the Christmas Day service at St Mary Magdalene Church on the estate.

Prince William recently shared his memories of the annual walk in an episode of Apple’s ‘Time to Walk’ audio series, describing Prince Phillip plowing ahead towards the church while "there'd be us at the back with little legs trying to keep up."

Queen Elizabeth was expected to host the family’s annual Christmas luncheon, but cancelled the event last week in light of increasing COVID-19 cases.

All of the royal estates receive a makeover for Christmas, regardless of whether members of the royal family will be present to enjoy them or not. New book names royal family member who asked about Archie’s skin colour

In his upcoming book Brothers And Wives: Inside The Private Lives of William, Kate, Harry and Meghan, Christopher Andersen seemingly reveals the identity of the royal who asked about Archie’s skin colour, a claim that was originally made in Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s astonishing interview with Oprah earlier this year.

The book claims that following the announcement of Harry and Meghan’s engagement, on November 27, 2017, Prince Charles sat down to breakfast with Camilla and asked, “I wonder what the children will look like?”, to which Camilla responded, “absolutely gorgeous, I’m certain”. Charles then clarified what he meant by following up with, “I mean, what do you think their children’s complexion might be?”

According to the book, Camilla was “somewhat taken aback” by the question. While the source for these claims is “well-placed”, Andersen stops short of claiming that Charles is the unnamed “senior royal” referred to in the Oprah interview.

In their March interview with Oprah, Meghan said there were “concerns and conversations about how dark [Archie’s] skin might be when he was born
Those were conversations that family had with Harry”.

Andersen presents the question as an example of Charles’ curious nature that was seized upon and distorted by “scheming courtiers” to make it look racist, pointing the finger at a group of palace advisers known as the “Men in Grey”.

Andersen writes, “The question posed by Charles was being echoed in a less innocent way throughout the halls of Buckingham Palace.” The gossip allegedly focused on how the royals would “look to the rest of the world” once Meghan’s blood became part of the mix.

Andersen also reveals Harry’s frustration with his relatives throughout the saga, with Charles telling him he was being “overly sensitive about the matter” and William describing Charles’ comment as “tactless” but “not a sign of racism within the family”.

Meanwhile, a spokesperson for Prince Charles told the New York Post, “This is fiction and not worth further comment,” while a spokesperson for Harry and Meghan did not respond to requests for comment.

Image: Dia Dipasupil/Getty Images

Indiana Jones 5 crew member reportedly found dead

A crew member on the fifth Indiana Jones film has died during an already trouble-plagued production. Industry veteran and second unit grip Nic Cupac was found dead in his hotel room in the city of Fes, Morocco, while working on the as-yet-untitled fifth film in the Indiana Jones franchise.

Walt Disney Studios confirmed his passing to the New York Post on Thursday, with a representative telling the Post, “Our hearts go out to the family and friends of Nic Cupac, an incredibly talented colleague and member of the film community who will be greatly missed.

“His sudden passing was not production related. Nic was a grip on 2nd unit.”

The 54-year-old’s cause of death has not been released to the public, but The Sun reported that he is thought to have died of natural causes.

Cupac had also worked on films in the Jurassic Park, Harry Potter and Star Wars franchises, and had only recently arrived in Morocco to work on the fifth Indiana Jones film starring Harrison Ford and Phoebe Waller-Bridge.

The production has faced numerous problems since it began. In June, residents of Hackney in London revealed that production was making life “a living hell” for them; one resident had been paid $75,000 for the opportunity to film in their home, but the entire street was blocked off for days as a result.

Just last week, Morocco banned flights to and from the UK because of rising COVID-19 cases in the UK. Plus, production had to be halted for three months during the summer after Ford suffered a severe shoulder injury in June, returning to set in Italy just two weeks ago.

The fifth film in the Indiana Jones franchise will serve as a sequel to 2008’s Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. It is the first film in the franchise that will not be directed by Steven Spielberg, with Spielberg stepping back in 2020 to serve as producer while handing over directing responsibilities to James Mangold. Mangold has previously directed films such as Ford v Ferrari, Logan, and Walk the Line.

Initially scheduled to premiere in 2022, the film now has a June 2023 release date.

Image: Robino Salvatore/GC Images

Queen stays at Balmoral despite staff member testing positive

Despite a member of the Queen’s staff at her Balmoral summer estate, testing positive for COVID-19, the Queen has decided she will be “carrying on at Balmoral as normal” a source claims.

Her Majesty, 95, is double-vaccinated and she’s decided to stay on at Balmoral while the employee who tested positive was sent home on Saturday.

Spokespeople for Buckingham Palace in London have said all the staff at Balmoral are tested for COVID on a daily basis and are wearing facemasks at all times.

But royal insiders suggest the Queen and her family could be waiting for the results of their own PCR tests.

Staying in her beloved Scottish sanctuary

It’s been reported her Majesty decided to stay in Scotland so she could ‘get back to normal,' following the death of Prince Philip in April and the public spats between Buckingham Palace and Harry and Meghan.

The monarch, who once described COVID as a “plague sweeping the planet”, has her Scottish castle full of relatives including Prince Andrew and his ex-wife Sarah Ferguson, Princess Beatrice and husband Edoardo Mozzi, and Prince Edward and Sophie, Countess of Wessex.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and their children are expected to arrive later this month.

Scotland has been a welcome retreat for the royal family since Queen Victoria's day, with the Windsors relaxing and enjoying country pursuits in the stunning setting of the Scottish Highlands.

Sources have reported that since the employee came up positive on Saturday, most staff were sent home and the staff canteen and bar were shut.

The royals themselves are “pretty much carrying on as they were” before the positive test. However, the Queen and her family missed Sunday's church service on the Scottish estate - with insiders suggesting they may have done so while they wait for the results of their Covid PCR tests.

Under government guidance, people in England and Northern Ireland who have had two COVID vaccine doses, no longer have to self-isolate if they come into contact with someone who has tested positive.

Instead of undergoing 10 days of house-arrest, they are now advised to take a PCR test. They are also advised to wear facemasks in enclosed spaces and to limit contact with others, particularly the clinically vulnerable.

Photo: Getty Images

"Lies need to stop": Irwin family member rushes to support Bob

The Irwins are hardly the type to battle it out publicly, but for years the family have been at quietly a loggerheads, it was revealed over the weekend.

In a sweet Father’s Day post Bindi shared, she thanked Steve, her own husband Chandler, and her father-in-law.

One fan took to the comments to asks Irwin why she left her grandfather Bob out of the tribute and the young celebrity unleashed.

“Unfortunately my grandfather Bob has shown no interest in spending time with me or my family,” she wrote.

“He has never said a single kind word to me personally. It breaks my heart but it is not healthy to engage in an abusive relationship
I have struggled with this relationship my entire life and it brings me enormous pain.”

A family member of the family took to Facebook to angrily dispute Bindi’s claims made about her grandfather Bob.

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by Bindi Irwin (@bindisueirwin)

Bethanny Wheeler explained that she is the “the granddaughter of Bob Irwin via marriage of my father and my Stepmother Mandy as a very young child,”.

She called Bob “the most genuinely beautiful human on this planet and has NEVER spoken out or put down anybody!

"He is a man who sits silently and battles his demons alone, in what is great sadness. He doesn’t retaliate, only prays for his grandchildren’s safety and good lives.”

Wheeler wrote that her “sisters and brothers will happily back me up when I say that Bob Irwin is a passive and beautiful human, and these lies need to stop.”

Bob Irwin’s biographer also said he was “devastated” by Bindi’s claims of abuse.

Amanda French, who co-wrote Bob’s 2016 autobiography The Last Crocodile Hunter, slammed Bindi.

“To write that there is psychological abuse from the kindest, most beautiful soul I have ever met, is heartbreaking,” she wrote.

She went on to say Bob has been “devastated to his core.”

“Unbeknownst to you, and what you know, he is suffering deeply for the loss of his family
He has done all he knows how to do and that is bury his head in the sand because that’s how he copes,” she continued.

“He’s not someone who is out there about reaching out and communicating, he’s like your Dad was. An introvert and not someone who can navigate people well.

“He loves your Dad, and you guys more than you know. This should be a private matter not written about on Facebook.”

Entertainment Reporter Peter Ford told Sunrise on Monday that after speaking to Bob’s wife Judy over the weekend, he could confirm they were blown away by Bindi’s comments.

“They were pretty shellshocked by it and when I rang and read to his wife Judy the details, they’re not on social media, so they were not aware of what was going on at all, I think they were pretty shocked and devastated,” the reporter said.

“That’s just the feeling I got. They didn’t say that to me and they did not come back and offer any kind of reply or response.”

Steve and his father were incredible close, once labelling him: “the legend of the universe.”

Steve told the ABC’s Enough Rope in 2003: “He was everything I wanted to be. And all I’ve done in my life is follow in his footsteps, mimic him and try to be him. And nowadays I just try to make him proud.”

Steve was killed in a 2006 freak accident, right after the father and his son wrapped up their month-long in Cape York,

“You never expect that’s the last time you’re ever going to see your son, but I certainly had a feeling he sensed something was about to happen,” Bob said after the accident.

Steve died after being pierced in the chest by a stingray barb while he was filming on the Great Barrier Reef.

When Bob released his autobiography in 2016, he said that “when the world lost Steve, the animals lost the best friend they ever had, and so did I.”

“What he stood for and what he was able to achieve means just as much now as when he was here in the physical world.”

Bindi insists that she and her family want the best for Bob.

“We built him a house on a beautiful property and will always do our best to ensure his wellbeing,” she wrote.

Human Nature members reveal how they got Covid

Human Nature’s Andrew and Mike Tierney recently revealed they caught coronavirus earlier this year - with one to blame for the other’s infection.

The brothers appeared on 2Day FM’s breakfast show, The Morning Crew with Hughesy, Ed and Erin, on Monday, May 10 to talk about their struggles with COVID-19.

Andrew told the show that he was the one that infected his entire family, as well as Mike, his wife, and their daughter.

Andrew believes he was infected in early February when he was returning home to Las Vegas following his Australian tour.

“We’d been touring at Christmas here and then we went back home to Vegas and life has gone back to a version of normal over there,” he said.

“We go and do things even though there’s COVID everywhere
and I’d gone back to the gym, and I swear I got it from the gym.”

He explained his suspicions, “You know people doing their heavy breathing and squatting really and not wearing a mask.”

Andrew said that though masks were still mandatory in gyms in Nevada, where Las Vegas is situated, a lot of people ignore the rule.

While he isn’t certain he contracted the virus there, he said he was worried about the gym as soon as he entered. “I just walked into the gym and I thought, ‘this is not clean in here’. But you do that every day with the gym

“I went home and thought I had a cold but then I thought to myself, I don’t think you can really get a cold anymore, so then I was tested for COVID.”

Between the gym visit and his COVID test, Andrew and Mike went on a weekend ski trip together. “We went away skiing for a weekend and our families were sort of all in one lodge together so Andrew spread it to everyone,” Mike said.

Andrew’s wife and daughter were infected, as were Mike’s wife and daughter.

Though both Andrew and Mike’s kids experienced mild symptoms, the brothers differed in their reactions. “Luckily we’re all fine now, it only lasted about 10 days or so,” Mike said.

Mike has made a full recovery while Andrew is still on the mend and yet to recover his sense of smell.
