Mother-of-the-groom slammed for “wildly inappropriate” wedding dress

A woman has caused quite the commotion over her outfit choice for her son’s big day, with one member of the family even taking to social media to find out how others felt about it.

And while the story gained the most traction a year later, people had plenty to contribute to the conversation with it was shared to Reddit, with the majority of the opinion that the mother-of-the-groom had made a major wedding day faux pas.

The post opened with a picture of the dress, an off-white floor length floral gown, with the text “MOG dress at my sister’s wedding” across the bottom of the image.

“Surely they can’t be serious,” one user wrote after stumbling across the story on the internet forum, “absolutely not”.

“First two words out [of] my mouth too. Absolutely not,” another agreed.

When one announced that it looked just like a wedding dress to them, someone else chimed in to add that “she even did the photo of it hanging from the door that you often see in bridal ‘getting ready’ photos.”

“You have to live on Mars not to realise this is entirely inappropriate,” one said. “I would have been pissed.”

And as someone else put it, “I mean, if the theme is ‘everyone wear a wedding dress’ then she nailed it. If it’s literally any other wedding theme this is absolutely wildly inappropriate”.

A member of the family eventually stumbled across the post, and swooped in to assure everyone that it had not been a joke, and to inform them that the mother-in-law had ended up wearing the dress in question.

“I just stumbled across this subreddit and wanted to hear everyone’s opinion,” she said, “because my sister and I thought she was crazy for wearing it!”

“Yikes on bikes,” someone said in response, before asking the questions on everyone’s minds, “what is her relationship with her son like? What was your sister’s relationship with her like before the wedding? What is it like now? Please spill ALL the tea!”

And luckily for them, the woman was happy to oblige, sharing that the groom had been “the oldest of 5 and the last boy to get married.

“They’re a close family and they all get along with my sister, before and after the wedding! She’s a super sweet lady but it was just such an odd choice and came out of left field.”

Images: Reddit

60-year-old influencer hits back at claims she’s “dressing inappropriately”

A fashion influencer from Montreal, Canada, has taken on the trolls who see fit to tear her down for shamelessly embracing her style in her 60s.

Roslyn Griner has had a passion for fashion for as long as she can remember - she credits her late mother, a seamstress who would often make Roslyn items to wear, with developing her love for the fashion world.

Nowadays, she shares her style journey with over 11k followers on social media. ‘Parenting expert’ claims high-fiving children is inappropriate

A celebratory gesture has been deemed inappropriate for children by a journalist and self-proclaimed ‘parenting expert’.

John Rosemand claimed that the high-five is a “gesture of familiarity, to be exchanged between equals” and that “children should know their place”.

“I have traded the palm slap with adult friends. “Dude! Gimme five!” I can be, and am, as cool as the next — the next adult, that is,” he wrote in the Omaha World-Herald.

“I will not slap the upraised palm of a person who is not my peer, and a peer is someone over age 21, emancipated, employed and paying their own way.”

Rosemand also declared that high-fives were off the table for employers and employees, doctors and patients, and grandparents and grandchildren, as well as stating that the President of the United States shouldn’t high-five anyone.

The journalist went on to explain that high-fives are “not compatible with respect”, and that respecting adults “is important to a child’s character development”.

“Children should know their place. Adults should know their place. The more adults and children commingle as if they are equals, the more problematic become their relationships,” he concludes.

“Why should a child obey an adult who high-fives him? And make no mistake, the happiest kids are also the most obedient. The research says so, as does one’s common sense.”

While Rosemand claims there is research for the connection between obedience and happiness in kids, there have been multiple studies on the psychological effects of high-fives, including the benefits for children.

One study, published in the journal Frontiers in Psychology, found that high-fives and other forms of ambiguous praise (praise that is less explicit, such as a thumbs up) are effective motivators for children.

In fact, high-fives could be one of the best ways of praising children, with the study finding that children evaluated themselves and drawings they did more favourably than those who received verbal praise.

Since Rosemand’s article was published, it has been the subject of criticism on social media.

"My personal goal today was to respond to emails but now it's high-fiving every kid I see," one user said on Twitter.

"Imagine being so obsessed with where you stand in a social hierarchy relative to others in it that you think basic gestures of humanity ought to be withheld from your inferiors for the sake of decorum," another tweeted.

"He's wrong on this one, and this doctor high-fives patients. I still command respect. Maybe he's doing something incorrectly," a third suggested.

Image: Getty Images

Dad goes viral after warning other parents about ‘inappropriate’ dolls

An American dad has taken to TikTok to complain about the ‘inappropriate’ LOL Surprise Dolls his daughter asked him to buy for her. He starts the video by showing off dolls he considers wholesome - namely, Tiana and Anna, two Disney princesses. These are then contrasted with the ‘inappropriate’ LOL Surprise Dolls, rotating one as he exclaims, ‘This one’s dressed up like a hoochie!’

@official.patrick.johnson
I Can't Believe I Bought This For My Daughter #Fyp #protectthechildren #wth
♬ original sound - Official.Patrick.Johnson

Patrick Johnson, father and pastor, said in the video, "I don't know what we doing these days, my baby wants LOL dolls and I'm upset y'all, look at these dolls. What are we doing to our children, y'all?! We've got to be careful what we're giving to our girls! I don't want her thinking this is the way women dress!"

Two of the dolls he shows are wearing two-piece outfits with stockings underneath, and a third is wearing a one-piece leotard. It is unclear whether anyone pointed out that women can be seen wearing similar outfits every day of the week at his nearest beach.

Commenters’ responses were mixed, with one joking that all of the dolls were wearing Savage x Fenty, Rihanna’s lingerie brand, and another saying, “That’s what I wear to work… I work at a strip club”.

One user said they were less concerned about the clothes and more concerned about the unrealistic body expectations the dolls might convey, with many asking why the dolls looked like they’d received ‘BBLs’ (Brazilian butt lifts). Another suggested the pastor use it as a teachable moment, writing, "I don't disagree that the dolls are scantily clad, but can't we teach our children to respect others no matter how they dress?"

Big W previously took LOL Surprise Dolls off the shelves following a number of complaints from parents last year, the result of another viral video from an outraged parent who had discovered the dolls' ‘hidden’ feature - underwear.

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by Bratz (@bratz)

Long-time toy consumers may remember when similar criticisms were levelled at Bratz dolls, which were known for their pouty smiles and on-trend fashion sense, as well as their removable feet. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle blasted for "inappropriate video"

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been slammed for imploring Americans to vote in the 2020 US election on November 3rd.

In a video that unveiled the 2020 TIME 100, TIME's list of the world's 100 most influential people, Markle spoke of the importance of voting.

“Every four years we are told the same thing, that this is the most important election of our lifetime,” Markle said. “But this one is. When we vote, our values are put into action and our voices are heard. Your voice is a reminder that you matter, because you do and you deserve to be heard.”

Prince Harry also spoke up in the video, saying: “As we approach this November, it’s vital that we reject hate speech, misinformation and online negativity.

“When the bad outweighs the good, for many, whether we realise it or not, it erodes our ability to have compassion and our ability to put ourselves in someone else’s shoes.

“Because when one person buys into negativity online, the effects are felt exponentially. It’s time to not only reflect, but act.”

Critics have been quick to see this as a thinly veiled attempt to vote US President Donald Trump out of office.

A statement from Buckingham Palace made it clear that the couple's comments were separate from the Royal Family.

“The Duke is not a working member of the Royal Family and any comments he makes are made in a personal capacity,” they said in a statement to The Times.

Piers Morgan shared his opinion, saying that Prince Harry was "poking his nose" in US politics.

“Prince Harry poking his woke nose into the US election & effectively telling Americans to vote against President Trump is completely unacceptable behaviour for a member of the Royal Family," he said.

The inappropriate question a reporter asked NZ Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern

New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has faced a never-ending barrage of questions about her personal life since her unexpected pregnancy and quick rise to the top.

An interview with the BBC was surprisingly no exception.

As reporter Victoria Derbyshire asked Ardern whether or not she had any plans to propose to her partner Clarke Gayford, the NZ Prime Minister was surprised and laughed loudly at the question.

“I would not ask, no.”

Derbyshire didn't seem satisfied with the answer given and pushed forward, asking if Ardern was a feminist.

“Oh absolutely, absolutely I am a feminist. But no, I want to put him through the pain and torture of having to agonise about that question himself, that’s letting him off the hook, absolutely not,” Ardern elaborated.

"I want to put [my partner] through the torture and pain of having to agonise about that question himself"

New Zealand @jacindaardern tells us she is a feminist, but she'd never be the one to pop the questionhttps://t.co/MCAoKLpCGK #VictoriaLIVE pic.twitter.com/rfbSp4NOmf
— Victoria Derbyshire (@VictoriaLIVE) 21 January 2019

Many New Zealanders have been outraged by the question, as Ardern is currently on a tour of the United Kingdom and Europe.

She’s the PM of New Zealand. 7 classic songs with surprisingly inappropriate lyrics

If you’re like us, when you listen to music you aren’t focused too much on the lyrics – if you like a song, you like it, right? Well, the next time you’re listening to one of your favourites, pay close attention to the lyrics – you might be surprised to learn what the song’s really about.

With this in mind, a Reddit user asked the online community the following question: “What classic song is widely accepted, but upon closer look, completely inappropriate?”

As it turns out, there’s a lot of them. Here are some of the most surprising responses.

1. “Waltzing Matilda”by Banjo Paterson – “It’s about a man that commits suicide after he was accused of stealing and eating a goat. He drowns himself and haunts the bog afterwards.”

2. “One Way or Another” by Blondie – “It’s actually a song Debbie Harry wrote about an ex-boyfriend that was stalking her.”

3. “Oh My Darling, Clementine” (traditional American folk song) – “Oh My Darling, Clementine. It’s an oldie but a song that many people know. The song is about a girl who slips and drowns in a quarry, and her father isn’t a good swimmer so he is unable to rescue her in time. He then commits suicide. The end.”

4. “Born in the USA” by Bruce Springsteen – “Most people see it as this patriotic song and play it on July 4th and stuff but it's an ironic, somewhat bitter anti-US Vietnam War song. It's inappropriate because of the settings you typically find it playing - yay America! parties, political rallies, etc.”

5. “Every Breath You Take” by The Police – “This one even baffles Sting. He had written it to be about a stalker, something menacing and threatening... and people listen to it as it it’s a love song.”

6. “99 Luftballons (99 Red Balloons)” by Nena – “It sounds pretty childish and very happy... It’s about nuclear Armageddon.”

7. “Escape (The Piña Colada Song)” by Rupert Holmes – “The wife writes an ad about cheating on her husband and taking a vacation, the husband (not knowing it was her) replies to it, wanting to cheat on his wife and take a vacation. They meet at a bar, recognise each other, and laugh, ‘Oh, it’s you!’ And then they go on said vacation.

Tell us in the comments below, what’s your favourite song?
