Former beauty queen collapses and dies at just 25

Former beauty queen Jessica Whalley has been named as the woman who died at ex-English soccer star Michael Owen’s stables.

The 25-year-old worked at Manor House Stables in Cheshire, northwestern England, as a transport manager.

Reportedly, Jessica felt ill at around 8:50am, and emergency services raced to attend to her in the racing yard, but she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police have stated that the tragic incident is not being treated as suspicious, explaining with their own statement that “at around 8.50am today, police were made aware that a 25-year-old woman had collapsed at a stables on Old Coach Road, Malpas.

"Emergency services attended the location and, despite the best efforts of all those involved, the woman sadly died at the scene.

"The death is not being treated as suspicious and her next of kin have been informed. A file will be prepared for the coroner."

Michael Owen is said by The Sun to have been emotional in the wake of the loss, with one woman sharing on Facebook that it was “so sad seeing him and all his staff in tears today … after such a shock to them … [at] such a young age.

"No health problems[,] 25 is no age ... life really is too short for we never really know how long we have ... thoughts go out to her family and friends."

The National Association of Racing Staff CEO George McGrath had kind words for the late Jessica as well when he explained that she “was a much loved and respected member of the racing community and taken from us at much too early in age."

Manor Farm Stables later released a statement, and tribute to their “valued member”, writing that “it is with deep sadness that we have to announce that a much-valued member of our team died at work this morning.

"The family have been informed and both the family and the team at Manor House request privacy at this time."

Jessica - or ‘Jess’ to her friends - has been remembered as a hard worker, a respected member of the racing community, and a “much loved” friend. But her professional history isn’t limited to the stables, as the young woman once found passion in the beauty circuit.

In 2019, Jessica had the honour of representing the United Kingdom in the Miss Tourism Universe pageant, an event that took place in Beirut and aired on MTV. And in the competition, Jessica made it to the final ten.

And it was one of Jess’s friends who shared the final picture ever taken of Jessica, taken a mere three days before, writing alongside the picture that it was “heartbreaking to hear Jess lost her life today at the tender age of 25.

“She was riding out doing what she loved. We had so many great times working in Dubai.

“May she rest in peace.”

Images: Facebook

Willie Nelson’s former Tennessee home hits the market

The former home of country music legend Willie Nelson has been listed for sale, and the folklore surrounding it is just as interesting as the home itself.

According to property records, the 150-acre property and its pastures, woods, trails, and cabin have been owned by just two people, including the Georgia On My Mind singer.

“From what we can find from tax records, there have only been two owners. One is the current seller and different members of that family. And the other is Willie Nelson,” Ross Welch, one of the two Zeitlin Sotheby’s International Realty agents representing the property, said.

“This was one of the properties that the IRS seized when Willie was not paying taxes.”

Before the IRS seized the home in the early 1990s, Nelson lived there from the early 1960s.

After settling his tax debt in 1993, the property was returned to the family that had owned it, who then sold it on to the current owners.

“From what we have been told and what we’ve seen on tax records, it was seized by the IRS and then the IRS went back to the family that had previously owned it and asked if they wanted to buy it back for pennies on the dollar,” Matt Lawson, the second agent representing the home, explained.

Prior to its complicated ownership, Nelson built the property’s rustic log cabin, which features lime and mortar from the property in the shower and fireplace.

In 1970, another home on the property caught fire while the singer wasn’t inside, sparking the story in which he rushed home to rescue his beloved guitar Trigger and a pound of marijuana, per Taste of Country.

The events described in Nelson’s hit Shotgun Willie also reportedly took place while he lived at the home and earned him the nickname, though Lawson hasn’t found concrete evidence to confirm the stories.

“One of the biggest stories that I wish I had concrete proof of is that this is the place where he got the nickname ‘Shotgun Willie,’” he said.

“There’s a ton of just wild stories about him out there.”

The sprawling property has been listed for $2.5 million ($AUD 3.9 or $NZD 4.3 million).

Images: @willienelsonofficial (Instagram) / Realtor.com

“Goodbye Little Darlin’”: Johnny Cash fan snaps up singer’s former home

After just two months on the market, the sprawling ranch Johnny Cash built in the hills of California has been snagged by a generous local fan.

With an asking price of $US 1.795 million ($NZ 3.16 million), the home’s new owner paid an extra $55,000 ($NZ 96,000) for the keys to the six-acre ranch.

The Ring of Fire singer reportedly built the ‘60s style compound in Ventura, California, in 1961 as an escape from Los Angeles and a place where he and his wife, Vivian, could raise their two daughters.

Unlike other celebrity neighbours, it seems that Cash was on friendly terms with the locals, with residents from the nearby village of Casitas Springs recalling Cash setting up speakers on the hillside outside his home and playing concerts for the people living below, per realtor.com.

In 1966, the couple divorced, with Cash marrying June Carter two years later and relocating to Nashville.

Vivian later offloaded the five-bedroom home in the 1970s.

Even after all these years, the property still features details from when Cash called it home, including a wall-mounted timetable and painted ceilings “imbued with glitter”, according to the listing.

His wood-panelled studio has also been preserved. Built with high windows, the studio was designed so the six-foot singer could look out without others being able to see in.

The panelled walls, wagon wheel chandeliers and curved brick fireplace in the living room also add to the rustic feel of the home’s interior.

Outside, you’ll find cypresses and oak trees, a large pool and spa, and a hillside barbecue area where Cash taught his daughters to shoot - with spent shells still being found there sometimes.

With the property being zoned for livestock and plenty of fields ready for planting, it’ll be up to the new owner to decide on the fate of the iconic home.

Images: Realtor.com / Getty Images

Former housekeeper shares things she would never use in a hotel room

After working as a housekeeper for many years, Tara knows a thing or two about hotel rooms.

The former cleaner has made a frank admission about what goes on behind closed doors when cleaning and tidying hotel rooms for the next guests.

“Hate to break it to you, things aren’t as clean as you think they are,” Tara said on her TikTok.

She went on to list the things she would never use in hotel rooms after her years in the industry, beginning with basic kitchenware.

“The first thing I would never ever use is the coffee pot or any of the glassware.”

“Usually the housekeeper rinses these things out in the bathroom sink and dries them off with the same rag they clean the rest of the room with.”

The next thing she avoids using or touching is the ice bucket.

“A lot of times people just innocently use these as water dishes for their pets but then other times, people do much worse things to these buckets... and I don’t ever want to talk about that,” she said.

She also advises travellers to remove the bedspread as soon as you check in to your hotel room.

“Take that s*** off the bed the minute you walk in there and do not put it back on the bed,” she said.

“They are so filthy, they only get washed once a year unless there’s a visible stain on them.

“So unless someone has puked, bled, p***ed or s*** on them, they do not get washed for an entire year.

“Seriously, I’ve seen some things.”

In a follow-up video, she explained why parts of hotel rooms are neglected during the cleaning process.

“You would actually get in trouble if you took too long to clean hotel rooms and you would get in trouble for backing up the laundry if you’re sending down too many bedspreads and blankets and things like that.”

She added, “Totally depends on hotel, training, employee and management but I’m turned off for life because of what I’ve seen.”

Former flight attendant reveals five things to never do on a plane

After spending countless hours on a plane during her career as a flight attendant, Kat Kamalani has learned a few things about on-board etiquette and rules.

Now, she has shared five things she would never do on a plane journey, and has warned travellers about the inner workings of plane culture.

In a now-viral TikTok video titled "Five things [she] would never do as an (ex) flight attendant”, she outlined the things every traveller should know.

Firstly, she recommends everyone bring their own snacks onboard, as Kat says, "you never know what's going to happen".

No matter how short your flight is, it's always a good idea to bring something small to eat on your journey to accommodate for your own tastes, preferences and potential allergies.

Secondly, Kat warns passengers to "never drink the hot water on the airplane".

While this seems like a bizarre tip, Kat has made an entirely separate video on why she always abides by this rule.

She revealed that the water tanks on planes are "never, ever" cleaned, so the water can be pretty gross in there.

According to Kat, the flight attendants and pilots themselves refuse to drink anything from these tanks.

For the same reason, she says not to drink anything unless it comes from a bottle or can.

Number three is pretty simple: always obey the flight attendants.

As the fourth rule, she says travellers should never divulge too much personal information to people sitting next to them on a plane.

While your seat neighbours could seem friendly, they are strangers at the end of the day.

Finally, Kat gives people one last tip, saying “Please don't walk around with your shoes off," accompanied with a vomit-face emoji.

Kat’s tips struck a chord with viewers, as one user posted in the comment section, "As an ex flight attendant as well, I agree with all of this!!"

Record listing of Kenny G's former waterfront estate

The sprawling Washington estate formerly belonging to saxophonist Kenny G has hit the market for an eye-watering $US 85 million ($AU 121 or $NZ 134 million) - claiming the title of most expensive listing in the greater Seattle area.

Sitting on four acres, the 1100-square metre mansion was designed by celebrity architect Richard Landry and features a “very European feel to the exterior” of sandstone and glass, according to listing agent Anna Riley.

“It’s the premier address we have in Washington,” Ms Riley said.

“Most properties in Hunts Point are 1 acre. This one is 4.3 acres on Lake Washington, a beautiful fresh-water lake. It’s a really rare, world-class property.”

The property also boasts plenty of celebrity-worthy amenities, including a pool, a tennis court, a four-bedroom staff house, a pool cabana with changing rooms and showers, and a dock big enough to house a 150-foot yacht, a seaplane and jet skis.

“It has an unrivalled dock. It’s almost like having your own marina,” Ms Riley said.

Inside the home, you’ll find high ceilings with custom mouldings, a wood-panelled office, and a two-storey formal dining room that features 24-carat gold leaf ceiling details painted by hand and a hand-carved fireplace mantle.

The home also features a saltwater fish tank and wet bar in the recreation room, and a marble fireplace and private balcony in the upstairs primary suite.

As for views and water access, the home has nearly 100 metres of waterfront and access to a sandy beach, with views extending beyond the gardens and water features to the mountains and lake.

“One of the coolest things about the property is that it has an outdoor stage and two really grand lawns,” Ms. Riley said. “You could do epic entertaining here.”

“It’s an amazing property for doing charitable events and large-scale entertaining,” she added.

The Careless Whisper crooner reportedly sold the home to Bruce and Jolene McCraw in 1999, four years after it was built.

Images: @kennyg (Instagram) / Mansion Global

“There are different paths to justice”: Former choirboy’s father takes George Pell to court

Lynette’s former colleague “saw bruises” on her throat

Lynette Dawson’s former colleague has claimed she saw bruises on the nurse's throat before she disappeared 40 years ago.

Chris Dawson has pleaded not guilty to murdering his wife Lynette, who went missing from the family home in Sydney's Northern Beaches in January 1982.

Annette Leary, Lynette’s former colleague, told the NSW Supreme Court that she had asked Lynette about the bruises on her neck after the pair had attended a couple’s counselling session.

"She said that Chris had grabbed her throat and shook her a little and said 'if this doesn't work, I'm getting rid of you...I am only doing it once'," Leary told the court, Nine News reported.

A few days after their conversation, Lynette’s contract with the hospital ended following a phone call from Dawson saying she needed time away.

"Lyn had gone away, she needed some time out and he didn't know when she was coming back,” centre director Barbara Cruise recalled at court.

Cruise told the judges that she was doubtful that Lynette had left on her own accord and looked up her mother’s phone number before raising the alarm.

It comes as the former babysitter, who became Dawson's mistress and then his wife, has taken the stand at his murder trial.

The woman, who has been known only as JC throughout the high-profile trial, first met Dawson in 1980 when he was her Year 11 sports teacher at Cromer High School.

The following year, the teenager had moved in with Dawson, his wife Lynette, and their two children to work as their live-in babysitter.

She told the judges that Dawson had driven her to a pub in western Sydney, claiming to have wanted to hire a hitman to kill Lynette.

"I went inside to get a hitman to kill Lyn and then I decided I couldn't do it because innocent people could be hurt,” JC said.

The conversation was kept private until 1990, when Dawson and JC split - she rejects claims that she made it up during the divorce and custody battle.

The trial continues.

Images: Nine News

Kelly Slater’s former beachside stay goes under the hammer

The coastal home that hosted US surfing champion Kelly Slater has been listed for sale.

It isn’t the only reason Slater has been in the news lately, after he made waves when he spoke out against the Australian government’s handling of Novak Djokovic’s deportation and its response to the NSW flood crisis, which he said was “nothing short of appalling”.

The home’s current owner, former Quiksilver International boss Bruce Raymond, has listed the home with plans to stay local following the sale. Raymond, who learned how to surf when he was just four-years-old, has lived near the beach all his life and continues to surf everyday.

“This was to be our forever home but I’m scaling down now. I’ll stay in the area,” he told realestate.com.au.

The four-bedroom, four-bathroom home in Bilgola in Sydney’s Northern Beaches boasts stunning views of the ocean and Avalon’s beachfront.

The house includes hardwood floors throughout, pool views from the kitchen, and even a self-contained guest suite on the ground floor.

Outside, the alfresco terrace and its entertaining area are protected from the area’s harsh southerly winds. Rare chance to buy Whitney Houston’s former home

The former home of Whitney Houston is available to buy for the first time in over a decade - and you’ll only need $US 1.6 million ($AU 2.1 or $NZ 2.3 million) to snap it up.

Along with its claim to fame, the home includes something made with Houston in mind: a personalised built-in recording studio which she often used.

The singer and Bodyguard star bought the ranch in Mendham, New Jersey, in 1993 for $US 537,000 (or $US 1.06 million today) and reportedly used it as her guest house for 17 years.

It was then sold to the current owners for $US 940,000 in 2010, according to the NY Post, two years before her death aged 48.

With just one storey, the sprawling three-bedroom, four-bathroom home sits on a five-acre property which also includes a hot tub, tennis court, and backyard with enough room for a pool or “playing your favourite team sport”, according to the listing.

There have been some renovations inside since Houston’s time, including converting the indoor pool into a three-season great room which opens out to the backyard.

But, the owners say the recording studio has remained mostly untouched, having been used as a “sound-proof home office” with tributes to the iconic singer on the walls.

The primary suite, last renovated in 2016, comes with its own dressing room and ensuite and is located in a private side hallway in its own ‘wing’.

In the east wing, there is a den, two bedrooms, and a full bath.

Images: Getty Images, Sotheby’s International Realty
