New royal book pulled from shelves over huge legal blunder

Copies of an explosive new book about the royal family are being pulled from shelves and destroyed after a translation error "accidentally named" the alleged "royal racist".

Sales of the new book Endgame, written by Omid Scobie who also wrote Finding Freedom about Harry and Meghan's exit from the royal family, were "temporarily" put on hold just days after its release after what has been labelled an error.

According to Xander, the publishers of the Dutch edition of Scobie's book, a translation error led to a member of the royal family being identified as the person who made comments about baby Archie's skin colour.

“[We are] temporarily withdrawing the book by Omid Scobie from sale. An error occurred in the Dutch translation and is currently being rectified,” the company said in a statement on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, The Sun claims that thousands of copies of the book are now being destroyed as a result.

The "racist royal" scandal dates back to when Prince Harry and Meghan Markle sat down with Oprah Winfrey for a tell-all interview in 2021, when Markle alleged that while she was pregnant with their first child, Prince Archie, there were “concerns and conversations” from a member of the royal family about how dark his skin might be.

The Duchess of Sussex stopped short of naming the person involved, telling Winfrey, “I think that would be very damaging to them.”

In the original edition of his book, Scobie also declines to identify the royal, claiming libel laws prevented him from doing so – although he has confirmed he knows who it is.

“I do know who made the comments about Archie’s skin colour,” he told UK program Good Morning during his book press tour.

“The names were mentioned in letters between Meghan and Charles that were exchanged sometime after the Oprah interview."

“We know from sources that Charles was horrified that that’s how Meghan felt. Those conversations were, and that he wanted to, sort of as a representative for the family, have that conversation with her.

“And it is why I personally think they have been able to move forward with some kind of line of communication afterwards. Though they may not see eye-to-eye on it.”

It’s understood the royal family member accidentally named in the Dutch edition was not the person Meghan had been referring to.

Image credits: Getty Images / Harper Collins

7 travel mistakes everyone should make at least once

Lose your daily itinerary plan

For once, send the planner in you on vacation, too, and ditch your carefully planned itinerary. Don’t have your map? Lost your list of the top locations you wanted to see? Perfect. Wandering around aimlessly can be a great way to explore a city and see a little of everything.

Don’t waste your time trying to locate your lost list or panicking about it. Instead, walk around, find a local pub, meet some friendly faces and experience the city as a resident might – not a tourist. Aside from the sheer adventure of it, you might end up seeing the city in a whole different way.

Embarrass yourself

Whether you’re trying to ask for directions in broken Spanish and end up saying something totally insane, or you accidentally walk into the wrong washroom, don’t worry too much about an embarrassing moment. Not only can something like that pull you straight out of your comfort zone and teach you not to sweat the small stuff, but you’ll never have to see most of these people again.

And while your embarrassing blunder may not seem funny at the time, it will be when you recount the story for years to come.

Get lost

Though you should probably try this one out in a safe destination, along with a few companions, getting lost may not be the nightmare you think it is. If you’re looking for an authentic place to eat at a reasonable price, travel suggestions from your hotel map may not have the answer.

Instead, look for a place on your own. Walk around and you just may fall into a quaint little place you would never have otherwise discovered. You can even strike up a conversation with a friendly local and get their take on the best restaurants in town. You may even get to know the roads better if you have to find your way back on your own.

Visit a country where you're not fluent in the language

Why you not challenge yourself by visiting a country where service in English isn’t guaranteed? You’ll want to pack a dictionary (or at the very least a phone loaded with the relevant apps) to help you with key phrases, but don’t fret if you can’t understand the menu word for word.

This is a great way to force anyone stuck in a comfort zone rut to try new things, pick up (or even master) a new language, explore new places, and meet new people. You may be surprised by the friendships (and even romances) that can exist between two people who speak different languages. You may also find it to be a rather humbling experience.

Lose your tour group

Oops! You lost the group and your guide is nowhere in sight. Before you decide to head back to your hotel and give up for the day, try to venture off on your own and discover things a tour group wouldn’t ever see, like a very small, hidden away restaurant with the best pasta in town, or a quiet little park that, although isn’t a special landmark, is beautiful in its own right.

Lose your luggage

While this one is a little more dependent on the airline than it is on you, the key thing to remember is not to panic if your luggage is lost because it can actually be a good thing. You most likely overpacked anyway, and ditching your heavy suitcase can be a liberating experience.

You now have nothing to carry around or keep track of, the opportunity to buy new clothing, and a funny story to tell. Just be sure to keep your passport and money on you so if your luggage is lost, it’s not a complete disaster.

Let people know you're a tourist

You might want to convince the cab driver you’re a local to avoid getting ripped off, but let’s face it: you’re not fooling anyone. Instead, embrace the tourist title and let people know you’re from out of town.

You may be pleasantly surprised with how many locals will try to go out of their way to make your stay in their city an enjoyable one. Friendly locals may even offer you some insider tips on the best places to visit, shop or eat.

This article originally appeared on Reader's Digest.

Internet in stitches at one woman’s dog breed blunder

A woman in the US received quite the surprise when she set out to pick up her new furry friend, expecting to find a fluff ball in the form of a Shih-Tzu-cross-Bichon ‘Shichon’ puppy waiting for her.

However, Melissa Windsor’s dreams took a turn when she met the mutt destined to capture her heart, and learned that things don’t always look exactly like they did online.

Taking to Facebook to share her story, Melissa posted two pictures - one of the caramel teddy bear puppy she’d been seeking, and another of what she’d received, a scruffy little fellow with an alarming case of bedhead.

“Little Roosevelt is four-months-old and looks more like a llama than a teddy bear,” she captioned her post, and the image of the sweet-faced Roosevelt in his pyjamas, “but I love him just the same.”

According to Daily Paws, ‘shichons’ are generally small and fluffy, although the cross bread has the potential to produce puppies that have “totally different” appearances across just one litter.

The post drew in over 1,000 views, and more than 200 other comments from fellow What I Asked For vs What I Got users. And while some took the opportunity to suggest that Melissa had brought the case of ‘dogfishing’ upon herself, most were every bit as amused as the proud new owner, and took to the comments to share their delight at the tale.

One spoke for the masses when they declared that “he’s such a cute mess!”

“He's awesomely cute,” another agreed, before elaborating that it was “in a manic Einstein kinda way”.

“His hair looks like Kramer from Seinfeld,” one remarked.

“Looks like he’s been electrocuted,” someone noted.

“Poor buddy looks like me when the coffee hasn't kicked in,” another shared, “fighting with four kids.”

One user went on to tell Melissa that their dog looked just like her beloved Roosevelt, asking if it was “possible that he's a mini Aussie doodle?”

Some groomers, however, suggested that he just didn’t look like Melissa expected as he hadn’t had his fur tended to just yet.

Melissa then shared that she was going to get a DNA test for the precious pup, as “at this point anything is possible”, and that she would like to know if her little friend would actually have the traits and qualities expected of his supposed breed.

Images: Facebook

“Grandma meant Elmo”: Cake-maker reveals hilarious baking blunder

An American baker has left the internet in stitches after misreading her customer’s custom cake request, instead delivering a baking blunder for the Sesame Street history books.

In a video posted to her TikTok account, Brianna Romero - who is known professionally as Brinni Cakes - confessed her mistake to the world, recounting the story of how a recent order from a grandmother had led her to the creation of her new friend ‘Emo Elmo’.

“So my worst nightmare happened,” she said, with audio playing over a timelapse of Brianne constructing another cake. “Last week a lady DMed me and asked me if I could make her an emo cake, and I was thinking ‘yes, of course, I love emo and I love goth, and I know I’ve been perfecting my black frosting so I’m ready for this’.”

Brianna went on to explain that she’d gotten all of her customer’s information, and set to work. However, an hour before she was set to deliver the cake, she decided to offer the woman a number candle - an offer that was soon accepted.

“She said ‘yes, the cake is for my granddaughter and she’s turning four’”, Brianna explained in the clip. “And I thought that that was a little bit weird, ‘cause I don’t know an emo four year old.”

After trying to understand the weird request, Brianna figured that the little girl must just be a fan of something like Netflix’s Wednesday series. Unfortunately, this was not the case.

“Something felt wrong,” she noted, before describing how she’d reach out again to ask what the theme of the party was, only to find out it was Sesame Street.

“So my heart sinks a little bit because this is now making sense to me,” she said. It was then that Brianna returned to the original exchange between herself and her customer, and had her worst fears confirmed.

“I misread emo,” Brianna admitted, “and it said an Elmo cake.”

Luckily, Brianna was a quick thinker in her time of stress and rushed out to find an Elmo topper for her cake, before offering the cake for free.

Brianna’s audience were obsessed with her tale, and the video shot to viral heights, with over 11.7 million views to its name.

“As soon as you revealed it was for a 4yr old I was like ‘oh no, grandma meant Elmo’,” one follower wrote.

“Praying it’s Elmo with a side bang,” said another.

Her misfortune drew in over a thousand comments, but there was a recurring thought that stood out among the chorus, and that was a request to see the baked blunder.

And while Brianna admitted in an update that she hadn’t had the time to snap pictures on the day of delivery, she did her best with her follow-up video, sharing photos of cakes that looked “almost exactly” like her own, to the delight of her worldwide audience.

“This is so funny,” someone said. “Elmo with a side bang has me in tears.”

Meanwhile, another commenter wanted to know what the recipients had thought about their unique goods.

“She tried to pay still but I told her everything that happened and we just laughed it off,” Brianna said. “It was just for a small family party anyway.”

Images: TikTok

“Who?”: King Charles’ hilarious Harry blunder

King Charles was faced with an unexpected enquiry while visiting the University of East London's Stratford campus for its 125th anniversary.

After unveiling a new plaque at the new hospital and primary care training hub, the 74-year-old monarch was greeting fans and meeting students when one attendee couldn’t hold back any longer and called out, “bring back Harry, please … Can you bring him back, sir?"

Without hesitation, Charles responded, “who?”

Charles’ blunt answer came as a surprise to some, but the man who’d posed the question was quick to add, “Harry, you son.”

The monarch, immediately realising what had been asked in the first place, had a good chuckle at his own lapse in missing the subject of the request.

While entertaining for the gathered royal enthusiasts, and the thousands who have since viewed the exchange online thanks to the Daily Mail, it appears King Charles’ sass had not been intentional, and rather the unfortunate - but amusing - result of a chattering crowd.

People on Twitter wasted no time in doing what they do best: sharing their opinion on what went down.

“I’m biased, I know, but I think KC3 handled this rather well,” wrote one, “he acknowledged that he didn’t hear the man properly and asked for clarification. He then shrugged it off and didn’t appear bothered. Good on him!”

“It was such a good laugh,” chimed another.

Some, however, struggled to see the funny side of the story, instead lamenting, “silly question when the country is sick of Harry who.”

King Charles appears to forget who Harry is on London walkabout

P- Can you bring back Harry sir

KClll- Who? 😂

Thankyou @bettedavisthizz Xx https://t.co/lcadLXUVIq pic.twitter.com/WDXlJXCcZQ

— HarrysGreySuit (@hrrysgreysuit) February 9, 2023

Tensions have been high between Charles and his 38-year-old son even since Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, left the United Kingdom in 2020.

The couple, who are parents to Charles’ young grandchildren Archie and Lilibet, have been open about their experience in the monarchy since departing. Most recently, their interview with Oprah and Harry’s memoir Spare have thrust the strained relations into the public eye.

Tense relationships and meet-and-greet blunders aside, it is expected that Harry and Meghan will be in attendance to support King Charles’ at his coronation in May. Reportedly, King Charles wants to see them there to avoid further drama for the family.

And for supporters - like the man in East London - who are eager for more, it is believed that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will return again to the United Kingdom for the WellChild Awards in September.

Image: Getty

"Put it up properly!" PM criticised for public flag blunder

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has come under fire after the Aboriginal flag was hung upside down on the first day of the Jobs and Skills Summit at Parliament House - made worse by the fact that no one in attendance seemed to notice the error either.

The incorrectly-hung Indigenous flag was in the background displayed alongside the Australia and Torres Strait Islander flags as Mr Albanese addressed the 140 government and business leaders and was spotted in various selfies and photos taken on the day.

When correctly flown, the black half of the flag, representing First Nations Australians, is meant to be at the top, with the red half, signifying the earth, at the bottom.

Loved joining this powerhouse of women speakers on the opening panel at the #jobssummit. Family traumatised after shocking burial blunder

A South Australian family have been left traumatised after the funeral of a much-loved mother was ruined by an unimaginable mistake.

As Debby Giles was being lowered into the ground, her coffin was forced open as the grave was dug 20 centimetres too short.

As her family was gathered around the burial site at the time of the blunder, the devastating issue caused Debby's mourning partner Kevin Bartsch to faint.

“The lid lifted up a little bit because it scraped on the side of the wall,” Ms Giles’ son Nathaniel Mark told 7News.

“The coffin wouldn’t fit in the hole. It was stuck... like a quarter of a way,” Mr Bartsch said.

Mr Bartsch was throwing petals onto his late-partner’s coffin, which was tilted diagonally, when he passed out.

“They rolled straight off the coffin and then… I don’t know what happened after that,” Mr Bartsch said.

The funeral director, who was present at the service, then allegedly began trying to force the coffin into the ground by pushing it down with her hands.

“She was on the other side just trying to push it in,” Mr Bartsch said.

Mr Bartsch says “it’s going to take a long time” before the image of that moment ceases to haunt him.

Those at the burial site were then asked to leave so the coffin could be removed from its awkward position and the gravesite size corrected.

Debby's body was then buried without her loved ones present, with the grieving family saying the cultural significance of physically witnessing Ms Giles’ burial on their land was something that was taken from them.

The funeral home blamed the local council for the mistake, with the Mid-Murray Council admitting fault and offering the family compensation.

However, the family say no money could offer them a proper chance to say goodbye.

Wedding guest mortified by awkward blunder

A woman has taken to the social media app TikTok to share the stunningly awkward moment she arrived at a wedding with the exact same dress as the bridal party.

Lisa Marie Torres (@lisalovesrandom), regularly posts bridal content to her page, but this time she had to share her own embarrassing blunder.

Lisa told her followers that while she was skimming through an article that articulated why it was inappropriate to wear the same colour as the bridesmaid, she had the sudden realisation that she had made a terrible mistake.

“If you’re not a bridesmaid, wearing the same colour as the ‘maids can make you look like a wannabe,” the website read.

Lisa then went on to share photos of the bridal party from a wedding she recently went to, and herself in the same-coloured dress.

“[My fiancé] was a groomsman, I wasn’t a bridesmaid,” she wrote.

Fans took to the comments, with one follower asking how guests are supposed to know about the bridesmaid’s colours.

“That’s what I asked too,” Lisa replied.

“It’s often on the wedding website. Also, the invitation usually shows wedding colours.”

She also said she didn’t know that it was “against the rules” to wear the same-coloured dress as the bridal party.

The bride whose wedding Lisa had attended commented on the post, saying that she was fine with the incident.

“Girl I didn’t even notice,” she wrote. “You looked great!”

Young tradie’s “embarrassing” blunder

A Melbourne tradie learned he had arrived for a job at the wrong house, after he had just finished ripping up the unknown owner’s backyard pavers.

The tradesman arrived at the Cranbourne West home, in Melbourne’s southeast, before his boss on Monday, May 18 and got straight to work.

But little did he know, there was another house with the exact same number just three doors down the road.

He shared his “embarrassing” error on TikTok the following day, writing: “When you go to prep a pour and end up going to the wrong house.”

“What a way to start the day,” he says in the clip that has since been watched over 165,000 times.

“I get a text to say the address is 37, I word up the client that we’ll come in with the excavator, waited for Tyler, pulled up the pavers, only to find out, there’s a 37 all the way down there too,” he said.

“I’ve just gone to a complete stranger’s house, got them to open up the shed, pulled out their pavers, waited for my boss, just to find out it’s the wrong house.”

His boss also made a video recording the blunder.

“Get a load of this,” he says in the clip before panning across to the house where the work had been done.

“I’m running late, so he comes in and starts moving things and ripping up pavers, but what he didn’t know was that’s actually the wrong house,” he said.

“And he started ripping up someone else’s pavers, ready for a job that’s not going to happen at their house.

“He doesn’t know what to do. Tony Abbott’s major boarding pass blunder

Former Australia Prime Minister Tony Abbott is not the only one to ever share a screen grab of his boarding pass onto Instagram, however it has been revealed that it took hackers only 45 minutes to get private information about the politician purely due to one simple mistake.

Australian tech expert Alex Hope said he was able to retrieve Mr Abbott’s phone number and passport details from the Instagram post in March.

“A big thank you to all the team on QF26 from Tokyo. Hope to see you flying again soon!,” Mr Abbott captioned the photo, which has since been deleted. Pity.

Mr Hope said he took on the challenge to hack the former PM after he was dared by a friend in his group chat that asked: “Can you hack this man?”.

The “hacker” says finding the information was easy as he simply took the details from the image on Mr Abbott’s Instagram to log into Qantas’ booking page.

He was able to read the HTML code and find Mr Abbott’s phone number and passport number within minutes.

In a blog post, the self-described “hacker” noted that he had tried for six months to alert Mr Abbott to what had happened.

“I had Tony Abbott’s passport number, phone number, and weird Qantas messages about him. I was the only one who knew I had these,” he wrote.

“Anyone who saw that Instagram post could also have them. I felt like I had to like, tell someone about this. Someone with like, responsibilities. Someone with an email signature,” he added.

Mr Hope said he tracked Mr Abbott’s personal assistant down after many months of trying.

He then had a quick chat with Mr Abbott one-on-one.

“Mostly, he wanted to check whether his understanding of how I’d found his passport number was correct (it was). He also wanted to ask me how to learn about ‘the IT’,” he said.

“He asked some intelligent questions, like ‘how much information is in a boarding pass, and what do people like me need to know to be safe?’, and ‘why can you get a passport number from a boarding pass, but not from a bus ticket?’.

“The answer is that boarding passes have your password printed on them, and bus tickets don’t. You can use that password to log in to a website (widely regarded as a bad move), and at that point all bets are off, websites can just do whatever they want.”

Mr Hope says Qantas fixed the bug that allowed him to retrieve Abbott’s private details was fixed in July thanks to his warnings.

He says that he hopes this incident will make people think twice about what they post to social media.

“The point is that if someone famous can unknowingly post their boarding pass, anyone can,” Mr Hope wrote.

Qantas say they have tightened their protocols.

They urge passengers to keep their booking details private.

“Our standard advice to customers is to not post pictures of the boarding pass, or to at least obscure the key personal information if they do, because of the detail it contains,” a spokesperson said.

Mr Abbott has since been issued a new passport number.

Tennis fans shred Rafael Nadal over blunder in Roger Federer chat

Throughout his incredible career, it has taken a pretty special opponent to make Rafael Nadal worry, but the Spanish great met his match in the form of Instagram Live on Monday.

The 33-year-old can make any of his rivals break into a sweat. Whether that’s with his wickedly spinning forehand or backhand, everyone in the tennis world fears his name.

But fans on his social media witnessed a completely different side of the Mallorcan as they eagerly awaited his live chat with Swiss legend Roger Federer.

He may have 19 Grand Slam titles, one shy of Federer’s all-time men’s record, but when it comes to IT skills, he resembled a Sunday morning park hacker crumbling under pressure.

With 40,000 viewers tuning in, a confused Nadal blankly stared into cyberspace, as he tried to work out why Federer, who is currently isolating at home in Switzerland, refused to appear.

Eventually to Nadal’s obvious relief, the tennis champion popped up to speak briefly about how he’s dealing with the shutdown amidst the pandemic.

“Finally!” said Nadal.

Federer revealed he had been practising against a wall, when not spending time with his four children. But Nadal admitted that he hadn’t been training at all. “Perfect! You won’t be able to play tennis any more when you come back,” said a laughing Federer.

Federer said the extended lay-off has meant he has had time to rehab his right knee after surgery in February.

“I’ve got plenty of time, there is no stress, no rush, if there is a positive that’s it,” he said.

“Oh f***": Donald Trump caught in awkward blunder

Boris Johnson's big royal blunder: What the Queen really thinks of the new Prime Minister

It hasn’t taken long for Boris Johnson to make a major mistake since becoming Prime Minister, as the politician broke royal protocol and revealed what the Queen had told him privately: “I don’t know why anyone would want the job.”

According to The Sun, the new leader of the UK is said to have told his staff at Downing Street about what went down during his first private meeting with the Monarch.

It’s a major breach of royal protocol to discuss private conversations that occurred with the head of state, and it is assumed that he was scolded by his new staff.

Spectators also criticised the Queen for holding her handbag during Johnson's visit, as they took to Twitter to express their frustration.

One tweeted: “Good. But why the Queen carries a handbag even to her living room?”

Another said: “Does the queen really need a purse?”

A third wrote: “Always with that handbag! Even in her own home!!!!”

The Queen is very rarely seen without her trusted black handbag, as it's always found hanging off her arm, and it's well known Her Majesty actually uses it to notify her staff of secret signals and messages when she has an audience at the palace.

The royal mistake came right after he criticised “the doubters, the doomsters, the gloomsters” who have zero faith in Brexit, saying the initiative is destined for failure.

“The people who bet against Britain are going to lose their shirts because we are going to restore trust in our democracy,” he said.

“We will do a new deal, a better deal that will maximise the opportunities of Brexit while allowing us to develop a new and exciting partnership with the rest of Europe.

“I have every confidence that in 99 days’ time we will have cracked it.”

Johnson’s career in politics hasn’t been without controversy as he’s had plenty of famous gaffes throughout his time. Some of which include when he got stuck on a zip line during the London 2012 Olympics while holding on to two Union Jack flags.

Then, in 2015, he took down a 15-year-old school boy during a game of street rugby in Tokyo.

The incident occurred only a few short years after he knocked a school boy down during a football match in London and kicked another rival in the crutch in 2006.
