The entertainment industry is mourning the loss of actor Cole Brings Plenty, known for his roles in various Western dramas, including a spin-off of the immensely popular television series Yellowstone.

The news of his demise surfaced after a distressing sequence of events unfolded in Kansas, where Brings Plenty was found dead after being reported missing amidst a domestic violence investigation.

Authorities from the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office confirmed on Friday the discovery of Brings Plenty's body in a wooded area. This revelation came in the wake of escalating concerns when the actor went missing amid a cloud of suspicion regarding a domestic violence incident.

The circumstances surrounding Brings Plenty's death remain shrouded in mystery, as law enforcement officials have refrained from disclosing any details regarding the cause of death. However, the tragic saga began to unfold days prior when Brings Plenty found himself entangled in legal troubles.

Reports indicate that Brings Plenty was charged in a nearby county with aggravated burglary, domestic battery and criminal restraint, prompting an arrest warrant against him. The series of events culminated when authorities responded to a distress call from an apartment in Lawrence, where a woman was heard screaming for help. Human remains found in search for missing actor

Californian hikers have discovered human remains in the wilderness area where actor Julian Sands disappeared more than five months ago, according to authorities.

Officials have not yet identified the victim.

The remains were transported to the coroner’s office for confirmation, which is expected to be completed next week, The New York Post reported.

Sands was reported missing on January 13 after he failed to return from a hiking trip in Mount Baldy, located about 72 kilometres east of Los Angeles.

The search – consisting of 80 volunteers and officials – resumed on June 12 after a temporary suspension.

Police have conducted eight ground and air searches since the actor's disappearance on the mountain.

“Despite the recent warmer weather, portions of the mountain remain inaccessible due to extreme alpine conditions. Multiple areas include steep terrain and ravines, which still have 10-plus feet [about 16 metres] of ice and snow,” San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Office said.

Sands’ family spoke publicly for the first time since he vanished, releasing a statement on June 23 to express their gratitude for the ongoing search and rescue efforts.

“We are deeply grateful to the search teams and co-ordinators who have worked tirelessly to find Julian,” the family said.

“We continue to hold Julian in our hearts, with bright memories of him as a wonderful father, husband, explorer, lover of the natural world and the arts, and as an original and collaborative performer.”

Sands is known for starring in films such as Arachnophobia, A Room with a View, Warlock and Leaving Las Vegas.

Mt. Baldy is renowned for being one of the most dangerous peaks to climb in California.

According to the Los Angeles Times, six people have died with crews conducting over 100 searches as daredevils and avid hikers alike are drawn to the daunting challenge of the more-than-16,000 metre climb.

In January, officials found hiker Jin Chung, 75, who had become lost on Mount Baldy and was hospitalised with a leg injury and other weather-related injuries.

Before Chung’s brief disappearance, a mother of four fell more than 500 to 700 feet to her death.

Crystal Paula Gonzalez, renowned as a “hiking queen”, slipped on the steep icy hillside and later died from her injuries, officials reported.

Encouraging signs in search for missing sub

An Australian submarine expert said “banging noises” have been detected in 30-minute intervals by rescuers searching for the Titan submersible — “encouraging” rescuers that the five people on board were still alive.

The Titan went missing in the Atlantic Ocean on June 18 around one hour and 45 minutes after commencing the dive.

Frank Owen, former Australian submarine officer and current search and rescue director, told the New York Post he is confident the noises are coming from inside of the Titan, and those aboard are well trained in emergency submarine situations.

“This tells me a huge amount,” he said.

“Onboard the Titan is the French former Navy diver, the Titanic expert [Paul-Henri Nargeolet]. But also because he’s a diver, he understands the way search forces look for submarines that are lost … submariners are taught that if they’re stuck in a disabled submarine on the hour and the half-hour they bang the hull for three minutes, then they stop. They don’t make any more noise.”

He added, “So the fact that we’re hearing banging at 30-minute internals tells me that the people inside are sending a message that says, ‘We understand that you would be looking for us and this is how you might expect us to react.’ So, it’s very encouraging.”

His comment come soon after authorities confirmed underwater “banging noises” were still heard in the area where the submersible disappeared on what proved to be a disastrous dive to explore The Titanic wreckage.

In a press conference held in Boston on June 21, The US Coast Guard said that more noises had been detected.

“A Canadian P3 detected underwater noises in the search area,” Captain Jamie Frederick said. “It is my understanding that the P3 heard noises today, as well.”

He said the attempts to identify the source of the noise had been so far unsuccessful. The Captain was also asked about the 30-minute intervals described in the internal Department of Homeland Security emails, to which he responded, “I hadn’t heard 30-minute intervals.”

He also said the data had been sent to the US Navy for analysis proved “inconclusive”. The important piece is we’re searching in the area where the noises were detected,” Captain Frederick said.

“We don’t know what they are, to be frank with you. We have to remain optimistic and hopeful,” he said of the noises.

Extra ships, specialised salvage equipment and US Navy experts converged on the tough search area in the North Atlantic as rescuers, who have gotten help from around the world, are concentrating their efforts near the sounds.

“We’re searching in the area where the noises were detected and we’ll continue to do so,” Captain Frederick said.

It comes in the wake of news that rescue crews exploring the depths of the Atlantic will receive help from the Victor 6000 robot — a highly advanced, deep-sea craft and one of the few vessels on Earth capable of reaching the wreck.

The Victor 600 is being rushed to the search site aboard French research vessel L’Atalante and was set to arrive about 12 hours before the oxygen supply on the Titan is expected to run out.

The Victor 6000 — a three metre long, remote-controlled robot with a bright yellow back has been described as a “flagship device for underwater operations”, by the French network BMTV, and is capable of reaching a depth of 6,000 metres.

With the Titanic lying 2,8000 metres beneath the waves on the ocean floor, the craft should have a good chance of reaching it.

A rescue would have the Victor 6000 accompany the Horizon Arctic, a powerful tug and supple ship which has a large cable the deep sea craft can take it down with it toward the wreck of the Titanic.

Victor 6000 is equipped with a robotic arm, which could be used for dislodging the missing Titan submersible if it is found trapped within the Titanic wreckage.

Search underway for tourists missing on Titanic submarine

An expedition submersible, better known as the Titan, has gone missing in the Atlantic Ocean with five people on board.

The group had set out as part of their eight-day venture to explore the wreckage of the RMS Titanic, with the company behind the trip - OceanGate Expeditions - boasting it as a “chance to step outside of everyday life and discover something truly extraordinary”.

However, around one hour and 45 minutes after commencing the dive - approximately 600 km off the coast of Newfoundland, Canada, and roughly 4 km below the ocean surface - the Canadian research vessel that they were working with, the Polar Prince, reportedly lost contact with them, and hasn’t been able to re-establish communication.

Coast Guards have confirmed that a search is underway, with Lt Samantha Corcoran explaining that they were “just trying to use all efforts and work with international partners to try to get any resources out there to safely locate all five individuals.”

The last photo of the vessel - a 6.4-metre, 23,000 pound submersible - was taken early on the morning of its disappearance, with fog and wet weather conditions apparent, as it was being taken out into the water on a barge between two dinghies.

Weather had not been ideal through the season, with British billionaire and “mission specialist” for the Titan team Hamish Harding noting that it had been “the worst winter in Newfoundland in 40 years” in a post to social media ahead of the trip.

“This mission is likely to be the first and only manned mission to the Titanic in 2023” he added. “A weather window has just opened up and we are going to attempt a dive tomorrow.”
<blockquote class="instagram-media" style="background: #FFF; Fresh location being searched in Maddy McCann case

Portuguese police have revealed they will resume the search for missing toddler Madeleine McCann who disappeared in the country’s Algarve region in 2007.

Portugal’s Judicial police released a statement confirming local media reports that they would conduct the search at the request of the German authorities and in the presence of British officials.

A spokesperson from the fire brigade said police were preparing to start searches at a dam in the southern region of Algarve about 50km inland from a beach resort where Madeleine disappeared from a rented apartment while on a family holiday.

On May 22, Reuters TV footage showed police erecting tents and cordons in the area by the Arade dam, roughly 50km from Praia da Luza, where the three-year-old was last seen alive.

Portugal’s investigative Judicial Police overseeing the operation declined to comment.

Another source familiar with the investigation was not confident there would be a breakthrough, saying, “It will come to nothing”.

In mid-2020, German police jailed German citizen Christian Brueckner, a 45-year-old convicted child abuser and drug dealer who was in the Algarve in 2007, for raping a 72-year-old woman in the same area of the Algarve where Madeleine went missing. He was identified as a suspect in Madeline’s disappearance but has denied any involvement.

Brueckner remains under investigation on suspicion of murder in the McCann case but hasn’t been charged.

German police said in June 2020 that Madeleine was assumed dead and that Brueckner was likely responsible for it.

In April, a German court dismissed additional charges against him related to other Portuguese child rape and sexual assault cases that led to German prosecutors no longer having jurisdiction to investigate the McCann case.

Madeleine’s parents Kate and Gerry McCann were questioned by Portuguese police as formal suspects in 2007 but ruled them out the following year due to lack of evidence that cleared them of any involvement.

The parents continue to campaign to attract attention to their daughter’s disappearance, and British public figures from business tycoons to authors and soccer stars have made appeals for information.

Rewards for finding Madeleine have reached several million dollars.

"I am not a monster": Disturbing reason police have seized phone of woman claiming to be Madeleine McCann

Polish woman Julia Faustyna who went viral over claims she could be Madeleine McCann has had her phone seized by US police over claims it contains explicit images of children.

The phone was given to authorities by a former spokesperson for Faustyna and psychic private investigator Fia Johansson.

The phone was reportedly left with Johansson when she brought Faustyna, 21, to the US for DNA and family ancestry test results over her claiming to be the missing toddler.

The results confirmed that Faustyna was “absolutely, 100 per cent from Poland".

Johansson handed the phone over to police during a search and seizure as part of an investigation, but the reason behind what prompted the pursuit remains unknown, according to the New York Post.

Wroclaw police in Poland were contacted by the Orange County Sheriff’s Department and were informed that they were in possession of a phone thought to belong to Faustyna, according to a RadarOnline.com report.

“Our investigation is taking a deep look into it and we’re going to let them do their investigative duties and then from that point let the judicial system take over – if it needs to,” department spokesman Sergeant Mike Woodroof said.

Johansson reportedly added, “I’m told an investigator from the Sheriff’s Department is personally taking the device to Poland to make sure it doesn’t get lost or misplaced.”

She also shared an image of a denied release of case information form from the Orange County Sheriff’s Department on social media, including a statement regarding the investigation.
<blockquote class="instagram-media" style="background: #FFF; Searching for a sizzle: Rod Stewart spotted at Bunnings!

Legendary rocker Rod Stewart has been spotted shopping at Bunnings in Sydney’s Balgowlah.

The 78-year-old, who just wrapped up his tour down under, was seen in all white when he popped over to Sydney’s Northern Beaches perhaps in search of the store’s famed sausage sizzle before learning the snags are a weekend-only affair.

One man posted a photo of the British star with staff, paired with the caption, “Rod Stewart spotted at Bunnings in Balgowlah feeling somewhat disappointed to hear that they only do snags in bread on the w/e.”

The tweet, originally posted to the Manly Observer, received a fair bit of attention.

One comment read, “Road crew sent him out to pick up some gaffer tape apparently,” complete with a winky face emoji.

Another Twitter user explained this wasn’t the first time Stewart has been spotted out and about in Sydney of late, writing, "He was spotted all the way out in Pendle Hill the other day. Apparently he's a bit of a train model enthusiast and popped into the store.”

In a Facebook post, Stewart was seen visiting Woodpecker Railways, a small family-run shop in New South Wales.

In an interview with 3AW he revealed he is quite the fan of Bunnings.

"I love Bunnings," he said. "I found this particular angled wood that you can't get in England so I'm trying to get it to England, but we haven't found our way to do it yet."

Stewart is just another celeb to join the list of Bunnings lovers.

Fellow Brit Harry Styles was spotted wearing the classic Bunnings hat on stage during his Australian tour, while Ryan Gosling and Sydney Sweeney have been pictured with Bunnings umbrellas while filming in Sydney.

“An incredible moment”: Sisters share how they found each after 17-year search

Two sisters who were separated after they were given up for adoption have opened up about their emotional reunion more than 25 years later and the 17-year search they went through to find each other.

Laurinda and Ashleigh were born in the Dominican Republic and given up for adoption when they were just two and six weeks respectively.

Though Laurinda knew she had a younger sister, Ashleigh wasn’t as sure but knew that her mother had given birth to her at a young age and assumed she had more siblings she hadn’t met yet.

Appearing on the podcast, I’ve Got News For You, Ashleigh recalled how she finally had success in her quest to find blood relatives where online photo books and adoption websites turned up nothing when she came across the genealogy website MyHeritage.

“I was doing my adopted family tree and I noticed that [MyHeritage] were doing a pro bono program called DNA Quest and they basically were sending out about 15 to 20,000 free DNA kits to help adoptees reconnect with their family members that they were looking for,” she told podcast host Andrew Bucklow.

After submitting her story to the platform in return for a free MyHeritage DNA kit, Ashleigh found a genetic match: Laurinda.

She then reached out to her mystery match via email.

“Hi, my name is Ashleigh, I got a match from you on MyHeritage and according to it, you may be my aunt or my sister. I was adopted at the age of six weeks old from the Dominican Republic. This is my mother’s name. Could you please get back to me with any information and I look forward to hearing from you,” her email read.

Laurinda, who was living six hours away from her sister, received the life-changing email notification while on her lunch break.

Ashleigh (left) and Laurinda (right) with their adoptive parents. Images: MyHeritage

Having spent 17 years looking for Ashleigh, Laurinda had “fallen off the wagon” in recent years.

“I replied [to the email] right away, I was like, ‘Oh, my gosh, you know, I think you’re my sister.’ It was an absolutely unbelievable thing. You know, I ran into work yelling, ‘my sister, my sister’, and it was an incredible moment,” Laurinda said.

The pair then spoke over the phone before meeting for the first time two weeks later.

“It was wild. We were planning on recording it but … [as] we pulled up to the driveway, Ashleigh must have sprinted down from the apartment,” Laurinda said.

“Before I knew it, she was pulling the door open and, you know, we just embraced each other hugging and crying. It was just the most surreal, beautiful thing that I could have ever hoped for.”

Ashleigh added: “I just bolted out of my building … I just ran out there and gave her the biggest hug and we just stood there for like 10 minutes [but] it seemed like forever.”

The sisters discovered that they also have three brothers, including one who died before either could meet him, as well as a grandmother, another sister, and a half-brother.

Though their biological mum died six months before the sisters’ reunion, Laurinda was fortunate enough to have met her and shared the photos they took together with Ashleigh.

“You know, I kind of get to live vicariously through [Laurinda] and she said [mum] always told her that she would give up her life to find me and you know, we think she probably did,” Ashleigh said.

Laurinda also introduced her sister to their biological dad virtually, but he passed away before Ashleigh could meet him in person.

Now feeling as if they have “known each other” forever, Ashleigh said the goal for the two sisters is to reunite the rest of their siblings.

“I haven’t had a chance to go and meet the rest of [the family] yet … but hopefully, hopefully, someday soon, we’ll get that cash together, and we’ll be able to go down and meet everybody and have everyone together again,” she said.

Laurinda also shared that she had found out that her adoptive parents had the opportunity to also adopt Ashleigh but chose not to.

“Since they had already adopted me, they kind of had first pick to be able to adopt [Ashleigh] since we were full siblings,” Laurinda said.

“But at the time I was two years old, I’m sure very much of a handful, so unfortunately my parents didn’t take up that opportunity to be able to adopt her as well.”

She said she was “a little bit upset” when she found that out from her parents at 15, but admitted it motivated her to find her sister.

“There’s absolutely no resentment in any way, you know, everything happens for a reason,” Laurinda said.

“We’re just honestly blessed to be able to have this opportunity to connect with each other and find each other after all these years.”

Image: Supplied

"World's most difficult shipwreck search" comes to an end

The wreck of Sir Ernest Shackleton’s ship Endurance has been found off the coast of Antarctica 107 years after it sank. The lost ship of the Anglo-Irish explorer had not been seen since it was crushed by ice and sank in the Weddell Sea on the 21st of November, 1915.

Last month, the Endurance22 Expedition set off from Cape Town in South Africa on a mission to find the vessel, one month after the 100th anniversary of Sir Ernest’s death.

Endurance was finally spotted at a depth of 3008 metres and some six kilometres south of the position recorded by the ship’s Captain Frank Worsley, according to the Falklands Maritime Heritage Trust.

Even though the wreck has been sitting in water for more than a century, the expedition’s director of exploration said Endurance was “by far the finest wooden shipwreck” he has ever seen.

Mensun Bound, who has now fulfilled a dream ambition in his near 50-year career, said: “We are overwhelmed by our good fortune in having located and captured images of Endurance.

“This is a milestone in polar history.”

The ship is said to look much the same as when it was photographed for the final time by Shackleton’s filmmaker, Frank Hurley, in 1915. The team even spotted some boots and crockery on board.

Mr Bound told the BBC: “Beside the companion way, you can see a porthole that is Shackleton’s cabin.

“We found the wreck a hundred years to the day after Shackleton’s funeral. I don’t usually go with this sort of stuff at all, but this one I found a bit spooky.”

Huge congratulations to @Endurance_22 and @NatGeo for finding the wreck of #Shackleton’s #Endurance. The wreck is amazing but can we also talk about some of the #Antarctic sea floor creatures that now call it home! Add any others you spot to the thread! The team plan is to make a stop at the British Overseas Territory of South Georgia where Shackleton is buried to pay their respects.

Image: Twitter

Bone fragments found in search for William Tyrrell

After spending months searching for the remains of William Tyrrell, police have left the site on the mid north coast of New South Wales.

As they departed, they left behind a memorial for the missing child, where emergency crew members have signed their names on a hoe that was being used to search for evidence.

Messages were also written on the handle, reading, "We will never give up", and "search for William Tyrrell".

After announcing that the search would end, police on the site found fragments of bone, which was confirmed by the NSW Assistant Commissioner Stuart Smith on Wednesday.

There has been no information yet regarding if the bones belong to William or not, as police have confirmed there were animal remains found in the search area one month ago

“Another bone fragment was found, it will be processed with the others by forensics,” Assistant Commissioner Smith said.

“We don’t know what the answers of those are until we are provided with that.

“The matter will then return to Her Honour (the coroner) to determine the future.”

Despite the new evidence being found, the renewed search for the missing boy has still come to a close.

The search efforts were renewed on November 15th, with investigators saying their aim was to find the body of William.

Throughout the month-long search, police made no announcements regarding a discovery that pointed to the fate of William.

The then three-year-old went missing from his foster grandmother's home in the town of Kendall in 2014.

NSW Police issued a statement as the search efforts drew to a close, saying they were not giving up.

"The NSW Police Force remains committed to finding William Tyrrell and investigations by the Homicide Squad's Strike Force Rosann are ongoing."

Image credits: Nine News / NSW Police - PR Image

Police release William Tyrrell search statement

Image: NSW Police

The search for William Tyrrell’s remains is set to end “in coming days”, according to police.

Officers and volunteers have spent several weeks scouring locations in and around the town of Kendall, on the NSW Mid-North Coast, where the boy was last seen in 2014.

The operation has been underway for four weeks and according to Detective Chief Superintendent Darren Bennett, the search was sparked by “new information”.

There have been over 1,000 people of interest during the case which has kept police puzzled for years. William was last seen playing out the front of his foster grandmother’s home.

In an update two weeks ago, Detective Chief Superintendent Bennett described this search as “painstaking”.

He said officers were “happy with the progress” but that there was “no great milestone to report”. While several items have been removed from the search site for forensic analysis, the ABC understands that there is no groundbreaking information.

Before the search began, police publicly confirmed for the first time they were looking for William's remains. Over the past four weeks, several forensic experts have attended a site, about 900 metres from the home formerly owned by William's late foster grandmother.

It's been the main site for the most recent search efforts. A local creek, along with water tanks in the area have also been drained, while police scour those locations and a nearby dam.

Police have also seized the foster grandmother's car from its new owner. It is being examined and a coronial inquest into William's death is ongoing.

In a statement, a police spokesperson said Deputy State Coroner Harriet Grahame had been kept up to date with developments from the search.

"Investigators would like to thank the NSW Rural Fire Service, Salvation Army and the local community for their hospitality and assistance," the spokesperson said.

They said officers remained "committed to finding William Tyrrell".

Search for missing campers unearths tragic allegations

New evidence suggests that the bodies believed to be that of missing campers Carol Clay and Russell Hill may have allegedly been burned before they were buried.

According to reports from the Herald Sun, the pair of bodies allegedly may have been set on fire within metres of where the remains were found in dense bushland in the remote area of East Gippsland in Victoria.

On November 30th, human remains were uncovered in the Grants Historical Area near the remote town of Dargo, 320km northeast of Melbourne.

The discovery was made almost two years after Carol and Russell went missing.

The remains have yet to be formally identified, with DNA testing results expected to take some time.

Detectives from the missing persons squad combed through the scene meticulously last week, using the same methods and relying on the same arson chemist who originally examined Mr Hill and Ms Clay’s campsite when they disappeared in 2020.

Police are currently waiting for the forensic testing results of a Nissan Patrol vehicle that was recently seized during the investigation.

Victoria Police are also searching for a trailer that was resold on Gumtree, which may assist the investigation.

Russell Hill and Carol Clay were last heard from on March 20th 2020 when they embarked on their camping trip.

Days later, campers found Russell's car that had been destroyed by fire near the campsite.

A 55-year-old Caroline Springs man, Greg Lynn, has been charged with two counts of murder.

Mr Lynn remains in police custody and is expected to face court on May 31th next year.

False fossils could hamper search for life on Mars

If you’re an interplanetary alien hunter scouring the red expanses of Mars for signs of life, you’re more likely to come across microbes than little green men. You’re even more likely to come across fossils of ancient critters that lived billions of years ago.

But new research warns that chemical processes can create “pseudofossils”, potentially fooling future exo-palaeontologists.

“At some stage a Mars rover will almost certainly find something that looks a lot like a fossil, so being able to confidently distinguish these from structures and substances made by chemical reactions is vital,” says astrobiologist Sean McMahon from the University of Edinburgh, UK.

“For every type of fossil out there, there is at least one non-biological process that creates very similar things, so there is a real need to improve our understanding of how these form.”

In a study published in the Journal of the Geological Society, McMahon and colleagues from the Universities of Edinburgh and Oxford assessed dozens of known processes that could have created life-like traces in Martian rocks.

Many chemical processes can mimic the structures created by microscopic lifeforms, like bacterial cells or carbon-based molecules that make up the building blocks of life as we know it.

Stromatolites are one example of fossils that could be impersonated. These rock-like structures formed from layers deposited by communities of blue-green algae. Called “living fossils”, they are still found in shallow aquatic environments today, and at more than 3.5 billion years old they’re among the oldest evidence for life on Earth.

But non-biological processes can produce pseudofossils that mimic the domes and columns of stromatolites. Surprisingly, similar deposits can build up in places like factory floors, where cars are spray-painted, as well as more natural processes like the deposition of silica around hot springs, some of which have recently been found on Mars.

Another example of ambiguous fossils can be found in sandstone beds from the Ediacaran period, 550 million years ago. Animal and plant-like imprints are embedded in “textured” rocks, where the texture actually represents fossilised microbial mats that once covered the ancient sea floor.

A joint Australian-US team has recently been awarded NASA funding to see if AI can distinguish between rocks that are formed from biological signatures (like these microbial mats) or from purely abiotic chemical processes.

The team’s ultimate goal is to apply similar machine learning techniques to geological images taken by Mars rovers.

This new paper by UK astrobiologists says that research like this may be key to the success of current and future exobiology missions.

“We have been fooled by life-mimicking processes in the past,” says co-author Julie Cosmidis, a geobiologist from the University of Oxford. “On many occasions, objects that looked like fossil microbes were described in ancient rocks on Earth and even in meteorites from Mars, but after deeper examination they turned out to have non-biological origins.

“This article is a cautionary tale in which we call for further research on life-mimicking processes in the context of Mars, so that we avoid falling into the same traps over and over again.”
<!-- Start of tracking content syndication.
