Royal biographer reveals Camilla's nickname for Meghan Markle

Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, branded Meghan Markle “that minx” and thought she was “ungrateful”, a royal expert claims.

Royal biographer Tom Bower has claimed that the two duchesses have never seen eye-to-eye. Future Queen Camilla is reportedly “suspicious” of the intentions of Meghan, The Duchess of Sussex.

He believes that Camilla, 74, remained “tight lipped” with her opinions of Meghan after she was brought into the Royal Family by her stepson.

There has been complete silence from Prince Harry and Meghan after the Queen announced Camilla would be known as Queen Consort when Prince Charles, aged 73 becomes King.

Mr Bowers believes that their silence was “deliberate” and an “insult” to the Royal Family.

“Perhaps the Sussexes’ deafening silence is Meghan’s way of declaring war.” He said.

“It is believed that she has never liked Camilla, and I am sure the feelings are reciprocated. She found it hard to believe that Meghan would sacrifice her career and independence to serve silently as a team player devoted to the monarchy."

“But, as in all her conduct, Camilla remained tight-lipped. While watching Charles painfully believe that Harry was intent on publicly humiliating him, Camilla undoubtedly provided the comfort and good advice to reassure her husband that he had done the best he could.

“She could comfort him that while his authority is challenged by the Sussex’s, he would emerge victorious."

“During those inevitably endless, tortured and inconclusive conversations, Camilla is the sort who would refer to Meghan as ‘that minx’ — the self-seeking troublemaker whose antics will always end in tears.”

In an address marking her Accession Day, Her Majesty, 95, said it was her “sincere wish” that the Duchess of Cornwall will be known as Queen Consort.

Image: Getty

Royal Ballet: How Duchess Camilla stays fit during lockdown

The Duchess of Cornwall has taken up ballet with a group of “ancient friends” as a way to stay fit.

During a conversation with Dame Darcey Bussell and Angela Rippon, Duchess Camilla revealed she had been taking ballet lessons for 18 months through Silver Swans tutorials aimed at the over-55s.

The 72-year-old duchess said she decided to try the discipline after visiting a Silver Swans class in New Zealand in 2018.

“At first I thought it was going to be very funny and I was going to laugh at everybody toppling over next door to me,” she said.

“But we concentrate so hard that we don’t even know what our friend next door is doing.

“You might groan a bit afterwards, huff, grunt and everything else. But you do feel so much better. It’s fun.”

Since then, she has been attending classes with three “ancient friends”, she said. “The four of us clatter around and when we are in London, we do it once a week. It makes all the difference.”

Camilla said while she might have “improved a tiny bit” after 18 months of training, she would not be “taking to the stage”.

The duchess, who was recently appointed as the Vice-Patron of the Royal Academy of Dance, encouraged those aged over 55 to have a go at ballet during the coronavirus lockdown through the Silver Swans online classes.

With the news that The Duchess of Cornwall is to become Vice Patron of the Royal Academy of Dance, Her Royal Highness undertook a video call with @DarceyOfficial and Angela Rippon to discuss the Silver Swans programme. 🩰#InternationalDanceDay@RADheadquarters pic.twitter.com/urjDxgg9BZ
— Clarence House (@ClarenceHouse) April 29, 2020

In the video call with Bussell and Rippon, the duchess also shared an update on her husband Prince Charles, who recently recovered from coronavirus.

“My husband is a workaholic, so he will work wherever he is. Royal New Zealand tour for Prince Charles and Duchess Camilla begins

Prince Charles and Duchess Camilla have been warmly welcomed to New Zealand for the first day of their official Royal tour with a traditional Māori greeting known as a “hongi”.

The couple touched down in Auckland on Sunday before throwing themselves into a full day of engagements on Monday morning.

They both attended the Queen’s Colour Ceremony at the Royal New Zealand Air Force Whenuapai Airbase, where they learnt about the traditional Māori welcome, which is known as Pōwhiri.

It is a ritual that was experienced by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, not too long ago, when they arrived in Wellington, New Zealand for their tour in October.

Following the ceremony, the Duke of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall did not let bad weather stop them from attending The Queen’s Colour, the highest honour a sovereign can bestow.

During the 1953-54 royal tour of New Zealand, Queen Elizabeth II presented her Colour to the RNZAF.

The presentation was made at the same air base on December 28, 1953.

As the Colour is now worn, a replacement has been received and was formally presented to the Duke and Duchess.

Earlier in the day, the royal couple had the opportunity to sample some of the area’s finest wine while visiting the Hunting Lodge - a site where the first Sauvignon Blanc grapes were grown in New Zealand.

While doing this, they also learnt of the lodge’s “Paddock to Table” approach, which aims to produce as much food onsite as possible.

The lodge also strives to source additional products purely from local businesses and resources.

Farmer Richard Kidd, who provides lamb grown at Kaipara Farms, spoke to the Prince of Wales.

"We spoke about the lamb and I thanked him for being an advocate of wool, which is down on price at the moment," Kidd said.

"However, the price of lamb is doing very well."

Prince Charles has spoken up about the importance of sustainability and waste reduction in the last decade, and on Monday got to visit Critical Design, a company using innovative technology to turn plastic waste into reusable materials that will manufacture other products.

Tuesday is just as busy for the Prince and Duchess, who will be meeting Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern and her partner, Clark Gayford.

The royal couple is in New Zealand for an eight-day tour, their first to the country since 2015.

Duchess Camilla’s helicopter near “seconds from disaster”

New reports have claimed a helicopter carrying the Duchess of Cornwall was just “seconds away from disaster” twice in the same year.

The allegations have said Duchess Camilla was travelling in Sikorsky S76 from the Queen's Flight when the aircraft veered away to avoid mid-air collisions while flying with the 71-year-old.

The royal was being flown from Sandringham to her home in Wiltshire when the alleged incident occurred.

The second incident happened while the helicopter was getting ready to land 45 minutes after the first event and had to make yet another manoeuvre to avoid a glider.

The pilot reportedly said he was fortunate enough to have spotted the glider from half a mile away as he had “been flying into the sun.”

These alleged incidents have been reported in the UK Aiprox Board Reports and happened on July 25, 2018 after the Duchess visited the Sandringham Flower Show with her husband, Prince Charles.

The Prince of Wales is believed to have been in Norfolk when the events reportedly took place and Duchess Camilla boarded the flight to Anmer Hall.

The helicopter took flight at 1.11 pm and later an air traffic controller RAF Marham, Norfolk said the risk of collision had been “high.”

The report by UK Aiprox Board found the DHC-6 pilot should have informed RAF Lakenheath, Suffolk of the two incidents on Duchess Camilla’s flights however he forgot due to it being his eight flight of the day.

RAF Marham reportedly informed RAF Lakenheath to remind other aircraft to keep away from the Royal Flight.

RAF Lakenheath made “numerous” attempts to contaxt the DHC-6 pilot, who failed to respond as he was “distracted by passengers in the back.”

Buckingham Palace and Skydive Chatter declined to comment to the Daily Mail.

The heartfelt reason the royal family wore white to the State Banquet

The British royal family came together for the Queen’s state banquet that was held in June, and they dressed in their best as the banquet is held in Buckingham Palace.

Duchess Catherine, Camilla the Duchess of Cornwall, Anne the Princess Royal and the Queen herself all stepped out in white gowns.

This isn’t unusual behaviour for the Queen, as she is known to wear white to all state banquets, but what caught royal fans' attention is that the other royal family members decided to follow suit.

According to a colour expert who spoke to UK publication Hello! the colour white has an important meaning behind it, and the message would have been received loud and clear by the other guests at the dinner, which just so happened to be the President of the United States, Donald Trump and his wife Melania.

View this post on Instagram

Tonight, on the second day of the #USStateVisit, The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall attended a dinner in London hosted by The President of the United States, Donald Trump and The First Lady, Mrs Trump. Culturally speaking, white is a symbol of purity, cleanliness, immaculacy and perfection, which is why it's the natural colour choice for bridal dresses, doctors' coats and seafarers."

All four women choosing to wear white isn’t just a happy coincidence either.

"Although white dresses are not a required 'dress code' for decorated white tie events, it's one of the few occasions where white would be a natural choice, especially as it's a lovely contrast colour to wear underneath the royal blue sashes,” she explained.

“The men were all wearing white bow ties, honours and medals with their tuxedos too, so I think it's safe to assume that Monday's coordinated whites were somewhat by 'natural design' and not coincidence."

Camilla's redemption: How she revamped her image and won the public's heart

She was once labelled “Britain’s most hated woman,” however the Duchess of Cornwall seems to have come very far since then. At 71 years old, with over 90 charities under her belt and having completed 219 engagements in 2018 alone, it is safe to say she might have done just that.

Blamed for being the person to “drive apart” Prince Charles and Princess Diana, Duchess Camilla has not had it easy from the public or the media in the slightest.

However, she has not let that deter her and has been on a mission to change the public's view of her. According to royal expert Phil Dampier, Camilla has become “now quite popular.”

“I think most people will accept her as Queen when the time comes,” he explained to the Daily Mail.

The Duchess met 70-year-old Prince Charles in the summer of 1971 and was instantly taken to her because she was “not in any way overawed by him, not fawning or sycophantic,” according to royal biographer Penny Juror.

But despite the undeniable chemistry that swirled around the couple, they were prevented from marrying back then, as the Duchess of Cornwall was deemed “unsuitable” with little aristocratic background despite her grandfather being a baron.

She went on to marry Andrew Parker Bowles, with whom she shares two children, before they divorced in 1995 after 22 years of marriage.

In April of 2005, the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall wed in a ceremony at Windsor Guildhall.

With years of effort, Camilla has quietly refurbished her public image and given a new joy to the family.

Frequently seen in the public eye with her husband, the two are often dissolving into giggles and smiles.

She has even been described by a long-time friend as “witty,” and “100 per cent sure of who she is".

“She has no side, no complexity,” they said.

“She is warm, witty, endlessly cheerful and has the ability to laugh at everything and tease Charles out of his Eeyore grumpiness.”

Not only has she been seen as an injection of playfulness into the royal family, she has also proven herself to be a tireless member with over 90 charities under her belt and having completed 219 engagements in 2018 alone.

Her sensitive approach to the Princess of Wales

While the public has largely pinned the Duchess as “the other woman” and the wedge that drove both Prince Charles and Princess Diana apart – even long after the late Princess of Wales’ death, Duchess Camilla has taken a sensitive approach.

Although Camilla is technically the Princess of Wales, the royal chooses to not use the title due to its close association with Princess Di.

Choosing to to known as the Duchess of Cornwall, her full official title is Her Royal Highness The Princess Charles Philip Arthur George, Princess of Wales, Duchess of Cornwall, Duchess of Rothesay, Countess of Chester, Countess of Carrick, Baroness of Renfrew, Lady of the Isles, Princess of Scotland, Dame Grand Cross of the Royal Victorian Order.

She has the Queen’s approval

As a wedding gift when the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall wed, the Queen bestowed a particularly special title as Princess Consort.

In 2016, Her Majesty went a step further by making the Duchess a member of the Privy Council – her most senior advisory body.

To royal insiders and fans alike, the clear regard for her daughter-in-law shows that when Prince Charles is pronounced king, his wife will be able to be “in the room".

Although not all royal fans are convinced of Duchess Camilla, many have a newfound respect for the hardworking royal.

Are you a fan of the Duchess of Cornwall? Duchess Camilla commits fashion faux pas in front of the Queen

The Commonwealth Day service held on Monday was believed to have caused a stir amongst guests as they watched both the Queen and the Duchess of Cornwall appear in seemingly matching outfits.

The event marked the 70th anniversary of the modern Commonwealth which saw Queen Elizabeth and her royal brood all together again – that is the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, looked stunning in a deep purple velvet Bruce Oldfield coat, with a matching hat decorated with vibrant feathers.

However, what stole the show was not her deep violet ensemble – it was the fact Queen Elizabeth looked eerily similar to her daughter-in-law in an almost identical outfit.

Queen Elizabeth’s outfit was a slightly lighter shade of purple, by private dresser Angela Kelly. The getup came off as characteristically regal and as bright as the Duchess’ – choosing to accessorise with her Kent Amethyst brooch, which included a necklace and earrings once owned by Queen Victoria.

The fashion faux pas made by Duchess Camilla was not overlooked by the public who took to social media to not critique the royal member for the blunder but commend her fashion choices.

“Camilla wins my vote. Queen’s purple is lovely as well,” one user quipped.

“Not sure it matters. I bet the colours appeared more dissimilar in person. Camilla's seemed a bit more navy to me, the Queen more purple. They both looked wonderful,” another wrote.

One royal fan took to Twitter to question how the fashion faux pas could have happened.

“So, the double purple day (Camilla and The Queen) leads me again to wonder how much communication/coordination happens between the royal ladies prior to a joint appearance,” the user wrote.

“Do their stylists work independently or consult the stylist of the higher-ranking lady?”

Scroll through the gallery above to see the royal duo both in purple outfits at the same event.

What do you think of the Duchess of Cornwall’s fashion faux pas?
