“Kids are not accessories”: Influencer slammed for putting baby in danger

Influencer Camila Coelho has been slammed for putting her 7-month-old in danger, after posting multiple photos and a video of her standing with her infant son on a Paris balcony.

Coelho, who boasts over 9 million followers on Instagram, has remained silent on the backlash, despite worried followers telling her to stop.

The first photo was posted on February 27 with the caption: "Kai’s first time in PARIS. so happy to be back (for PFW) & spend my birthday tomorrow here with him and hubby!"

In the photo Coelho can be seen wearing a ribbed pink turtleneck jumper, a matching pink coat and boots and a denim miniskirt.

Her adorable son, donning an all-grey outfit, was pictured standing on the edge of the balcony with Coelho’s arms around him.

The fashion blogger’s followers immediately condemned her actions, with one saying: "Please remove these photos! Kids are not accessories!"

“Babies and balconies don’t go together. People will naturally get triggered. You are my favourite fashion blogger and I’m sure you were in control, but there will be other wannabe bloggers who will try to recreate this image and potentially put their babies at risk. It takes a second for an accident to happen. It’s not worth the risk or pic,” commented another.

“How far can you go for likes? Yes, you are in Paris and yes, you have a view. No need to put a baby on the edge of a balcony,” wrote another.

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by CAMILA COELHO (@camilacoelho)

In the same series of photos, Coelho can be seen lifting her baby up and holding him a little too close to the edge.

“For the sake of his life it’s not necessary to lift him up on the edge of the balcony,” commented a follower.

“Really? So dangerous just for a photo,” commented another.

A few days later, Coelho added fuel to the fire by posting a video from the same balcony, where she is seen sipping tea on a chilly morning with Kai perched in her arms, close to the edge.

Her followers couldn’t help but express their disappointment.

“Dear Camila, I love you as a woman, how you act in everything, but this is now the second time that you come into the picture with Kai on the edge balcony,” wrote one follower.

"Disappointing....I'm starting to think you're just trolling people. but of course everything for the many likes," wrote another.

The video has since been deleted, but the photos are still up on Coelho’s Instagram.

Images: Instagram

5 everyday accessories you need to take on your cruise

Grab these everyday items from around the house before you depart.

1. Hanging shoe organiser

No, you don't have to put your shoes in it. Multi-pocket organisers that hang from a hook, over a wardrobe rail or over the bathroom door are the perfect place to store all your bits and pieces. An organised cabin makes your whole cruise more enjoyable – trust us.

2. Nightlight

A small nightlight is handy for a number of reasons. The lighting system inside a cabin can be confusing, so it’s good to have something by your bed that you know how to operate. This is especially good if you’re getting up at night to use the bathroom and don’t want to wake your cabin mate. Interior cabins will be pitch black and a nightlight provides just enough illumination to get around.

3. Magnetic or suction hooks

Instead of throwing your things on the floor or onto the few flat surfaces, hang them up with a few easy to use hooks. Cabin walls are metal, so magnetic hooks work well, or you can use suction cup hooks on mirrors, window or sliding glass doors.

4. Laundry bag

You will go through a lot of clothes on a cruise, by the time you are changing for excursions, swimming, spa treatments, meals and more. You don't want to throw the dirty things back in with the clean (or just on the floor) so a laundry bag is the best way to stay organised. If you don't have one, a pillowcase works just as well.

5. Whiteboard or hanging notepad

Create your own personal bulletin board and you can organise your daily schedule or keep in touch with others in your group. You can hang the board or notepad inside your cabin or put it outside your door to let everyone else know what you’re up to. These are particularly useful when your phone is out of range at sea.

What everyday accessories do you pack for a cruise? Let us know in the comments below.

Is this wacky accessory the future of hands-free luggage?

Multitaskers around the world are rejoicing at the invention of a wacky new travel accessory that allows people to drag luggage around the airport hands-free.

My Hitch, a double-ended plastic hook that clips onto a traveller’s waistband, is the brainchild of 53-year-old pilot Robert Lian, who wanted to find a way to free up traveller’s hands so they can carry additional luggage, a phone or even a cup of coffee.

Retailing for $23 ($18 US) the My Hitch reportedly lets the traveller perform a range of movements, allowing the user to easily perform U-turns or even walk in circles when pulling a roller bag that weights 11kg or less, only feeling a slight tug on their waistline.

And while you’d think this invention would be a pickpocket's dream, Lian contends you’d quickly notice, writing on the My Hitch website, “Even with your bag directly behind you, if someone tried to unzip your bag, you would definitely feel it. Another option is to wear My Hitch off to one side, and glance at your bag every so often as you walk.”

It’s hard to say who the My Hitch is marketed at exactly, but you’d have to think it would be skewing towards business travellers who wear pants that have belts. As Lian writes, the My Hitch has a risk of unnecessary exposure (dragging your pants down) when wearing casual attire, “If you are wearing an elastic waistband, then it certainly would.”

Whether this is a sign of humanity is achieving a higher plan of existence or not we don’t know, but you have to say we’re living through some pretty interesting times.

What’s your take on the My Hitch? Could you see yourself walking around the airport with one? Or do you think it’s a bit too ridiculous for your taste?

Let us know what you think in the comments.

Video credit: YouTube / Robert Lian

Related links:

The real reason your luggage is lost in transit

10 travel accessories you really don’t need to pack

5 smart ways to prevent your luggage getting lost

5 of the most elegant accessories

While good quality clothes are a must, you can have elegant style by simply accessorising. And it doesn't have to be expensive. You are able to achieve a finished, graceful look by wearing just a few key items.

Here are five simple accessories to help you achieve classic elegance.

1. A brooch

This decorative item can do so much more than gather material. Frequently decorated with enamel or with gemstones, brooch fashions once changed very often. Now, they are a symbol of old world glamour.

2. A pendant necklace

One of the earliest types of bodily adornments were pendant necklaces. They were also a communication of the person. As valued material culture, necklaces communicated wealth, power, affiliation, prestige, levels of resources and skill, and elements of identity and position.

3. Pair of gloves

Gloves are the ultimate symbol of poise and grace. Queen Elizabeth I set the fashion for wearing them richly embroidered and jewelled, and for putting them on and taking them off during audiences, to draw attention to her beautiful hands. They have a long history of being associated with numerous customs, practices, rituals and symbolisms, especially in regard to courtship and flirting.

4. A small purse

Have you seen the suitcases women today lug around? A lady has no need for that many items in her purse. For an elegant look, carry a small bag that compliments your outfit. (That should stop the hubby from dumping all his belongings in there too).

5. A handkerchief

Carrying a handkerchief is worlds more elegant than stuffing tissues in your bag. It also means you’re prepared for sneezes, spillages or sitting on outdoor surfaces safely.

What’s your favourite accessory in your wardrobe? Let us know in the comments below.

Related links:

15 stylish seniors you will love

The trick to loosening tight shoes

15 fashion trends from the 80s that are making a comeback

5 essential wardrobe items for winter

Just when you think that maybe summer will last forever, you’re hit with the full force of mother nature and a sharp chill that never fails to come to the party this time of year.

The good thing is that since our winters aren’t particularly long and ferocious (in comparison to say, England) you can usually get by with a few key pieces, rather than undertaking an expensive wardrobe over haul.

So if you’re finding that you’re still not quite set for the cold, just make sure you have these five basic items.

1. A coat

In warmer areas and with the right type of coat, a quality option can carry you through the seasons. Decide what matters more to you when considering material. For example, do you want your armour to be rain or wind proof? If you said rain proof, go for a trench. It won’t be as warm, but it won’t get ruined if you get caught in the rain. If you go for wind proof, make sure you have a handbag sized umbrella on the ready.

2. Gloves

This is an item many of us think we can do without, until we’re caught with our hands out of our pockets on a particularly brisk morning. You can purchase a pair of gloves for these interim occasions for under $10, and your guaranteed to find a time this season when it’s well worth the money.

3. Comfortable boots

There’s nothing quite as uncomfortable as wet socks. The way to avoid this is by investing in some solid winter shoes with a good sole and a thick heel. For added warmth, choose a pair that come up the ankle a bit, so you don’t get the dreaded gap between your socks and your pant leg.

4. A scarf

Scarves are not only good for wearing around your neck, but can also double up as a shawl or even decoration for your handbag. Choose a larger style so you have more options with it, and a pattern you like so you can spruce up otherwise dull outfits.

5. A thick, long jumper

Do you have a closet full of long sleeve tops that are uncomfortable and unflattering? Skip the skivvy’s all together by simply investing in a thick, quality jumper. You can it over your existing t-shirts, and since your avoiding skin on skin, you’ll be able to wear it a few days in a row.

What’s your favourite item of clothing in your winter wardrobe? Let us know in the comments below.

Related links:

15 fashion trends from the 80s that are making a comeback

Fashion tips for flattering the neck

The winter coat with in-built heating

10 travel accessories you really don’t need to pack

It can be tempting to invest in every cool travel gadget you see, thinking they’ll make your trip safer, easier and smarter. But that’s not always the case. Here are 10 travel accessories you can leave at home.

1. Money belt

Traditional travel wisdom says a money belt will keep your valuables safe. In reality, every thief worth their salt knows about them and will demand you hand them over. It also makes it incredibly awkward to get your money or cards out when you want to buy something. Just use your pockets or a bag and keep it close.

2. Other tricky safety gadgets

Thongs with a secret compartment? Wrist strap money belt? In most places, you don’t need to take any more safety precautions than you would at home. Just be sensible. Don’t waste your money on trying to protect it.

3. Special ‘travel’ clothes

Don’t spend a fortune on special quick dry shorts or vests full of pockets that are designed just for travel. Unless you’re climbing Everest, normal clothes will do just fine. And they look much better too.

4. Passport cover

How damaged does your passport get while sitting in the average handbag or backpack? Not very. A cover might look stylish but it’s just another thing to juggle when you’re trying to get through immigration.

5. Neck pillow

This one is contentious. Neck pillows can be quite comfortable and might make a difference on a long plane flight, but they are also really bulky and look ridiculous bouncing along clipped to the side of your bag. If you must, go for the inflatable version.

6. Giant headphones

Unless you are a DJ on a club tour, stick to the lightest, slimmest headphones you can find. Big, bulky headphones are hard to pack, annoying to carry and very (very) expensive if you lose them.

7. The medicine chest

They sell band aids and pain killers in just about every country of the world, so you don’t need to bring hundreds with you. A small first aid kit is sensible, but there’s no need to go overboard.

8. Washing detergent

Again, this is something you can buy almost anywhere. And if you just want to rinse out a t-shirt or some socks, regular hand soap is fine. Plus, lost of places have very nice, cheap laundries you can use.

9. Seatback organiser

We can’t believe this is actually a thing, but apparently some travellers like to bring along a fold out, hanging travel organiser to attach to the plane/train/bus seat in front of them. We’re really not sure that it actually makes things any easier and it’s sure to annoy your seatmates. Just use the seat pocket and your bag.

10. Duct tape

A staple on many ‘must pack’ travel lists. It sounds good in theory, with the thinking that it pays to be prepared. But in reality you’ll end up carrying an annoying roll of duct tape around with you for the entire trip without using it. If you really need it, you can buy it.

Do you generally take many travel accessories on holidays? Which ones do you feel are unnecessary?

Please let us know in the comments below.

Related links:

8 ways to pass the time on a long-haul flight

World’s biggest plane touches down in Perth

5 ways to avoid the middle seat on planes
