While he attended Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s royal wedding on May 19, it is believed that Prince Philip may be absent at the upcoming wedding of his granddaughter Princess Eugenie.
The wedding between Eugenie and her fiancé Jack Brooksbank will be attended by most of the British royal family on October 12 at St George’s Chapel.
However, a palace insider has claimed that an old family feud could keep the 28-year-old’s grandfather away.
"He does what he wants," an insider told PEOPLE Magazine.
"He made a supreme effort for Harry. I would be very surprised if he did go, because he is so estranged from Fergie. I think he will decide at the 99th hour."
Since retiring from royal duties, the 97-year-old had a hip replacement and is said to be in a frail condition.
Philip also has a long-standing feud with his former daughter-in-law and mum of Princess Eugenie, Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York.
During Fergie’s 10-year marriage to Philip’s son, Prince Andrew, the couple had two daughters, Princess Beatrice, 29, and Princess Eugenie.
After the couple separated in 1992, Fergie was busted on camera attempting to sell access to the royal family to an undercover reporter.
In an interview with Dr Phil in 2011, Fergie hinted at her strained relationship with Philip when she claimed he called her “idiotic”.
"For such a smart woman, why does she behave in such an idiotic way?" she claimed the Duke of Edinburgh said at the time.
Eugenie and Jack will marry in the same chapel as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and will also have a carriage procession after the ceremony.
The palace insider revealed that the location of Eugenie’s wedding is very important to her.
“Eugenie is local to the area and spent a lot of her life in Windsor," said the insider, who added that the couple are also extending a wedding invitation to 1,200 members of the public including students from the bride's schools.”
