Severe weather smashes cruise ship against Melbourne pier

A cruise ship in Melbourne struggled to fight against dangerous winds as it became wedged against a pier earlier this week.

The Astor cruise ship was blown on to the edge of Station Pier at St Kilda, Melbourne, as it endured the wild weather.

The dangerous weather was captured as tug boats were called in to assist the large vessel.

The Bureau of Meteorology issued a severe weather warning for Melbourne’s eastern suburbs and elevated areas which encountered the damaging winds of up to 100km/h.

Trees were brought down across that state and one fell at Ripponlea station causing train delays and cancellations.

The State Emergency Services received more than 250 calls to help, with homes being left damaged in the forceful weather.

Yesterday, the severe weather eased, and locals have been advised to secure loose items, move vehicles away from trees and distance themselves from any downed power lines.
