See the abandoned Disney castle neighbourhood

A new housing development was supposed to be a luxury escape full of castle villas, but a series of financial hurdles has left the castle-filled neighbourhood to be abandoned.

The Burj Al Babas housing development began in the Turkish town of Mudurnu in 2014.

Sarot Property Group, the developers behind the magical idea, had built 732 castle-themed villas and had plans to build a shopping mall and entertainment facilities for tourists.

By 2019, more than half the villas had been sold.

But as Turkey battled through an ongoing economic crisis, development quickly halted.

After buyers and investors pulled out of the 150 million euro project, Sarot Property Group filed for bankruptcy and the castles were abandoned.
