The one thing you NEVER want to see on your boarding pass

There are plenty of things you never want to notice as you’re walking through the airport, but if you notice this detail on your boarding pass you better brace yourself.

One of the biggest signs that you’re going to have a tricky journey ahead of you is having a boarding pass with the letters “SSSS” printed on it. This code, which only applies if you’re travelling in the US, translates to “Secondary Security Screening Selection”, and basically means you’ve been selected for additional screening from security.

Expect officials to take extra interest in you and your luggage, from getting a pat down to swabbing for explosive residue. They may even seek a run-down of your travel plans.

The scheme was originally introduced by the Transport Security Administration (TSA) after the 9/11 terror attacks. It’s unknown how many people are included on the SSSS list, but if you can’t check in online it’s a sign you could be on it.

Were you aware of this?
