A hairdryer might seem like an odd thing for most people to pack on holidays but there’s a disgusting reason why this is a smart travel suggestion.
You see, when it comes to the areas of your hotel room that are harbouring dangerous germs, the humble hairdryer is one of the worst offenders.
In fact, The Sun reports that in most hotel rooms, the hairdryer is worse than the toilet seat when it comes to the amount of germs present.
Microbiologist Charles Gerba tested nine hotel rooms across Los Angeles for ABC in the US and found most hairdryers weren’t quite up to snuff.
“There must be some things you can do with a hair dryer that I am not aware of because some of them were pretty germy,” he said.
Many people believe the reason this is the case is that cleaners tend to focus on items like the toilet, bath and sink in a hotel bathroom that receive heavy use, while neglecting others like the hairdryer and over an extended period of time this adds up.
