News reporter’s on-air gaffe goes viral

A US news reporter has made headlines across the globe after attempting to contact a man for a comment on his own death.

Sara Welch was reporting live for Los Angeles news channel KTLA on a fatal car pursuit in Anaheim, South California when she told the viewers the deceased was unavailable to comment.

“We tried to reach out to the man who died in this pursuit, they were unavailable for comment,” she said.

A clip of the news report, which was posted by journalist Yashar Ali on Monday, has gained more than 4.5 million views and 24,000 retweets.

“Takes “digging for the truth” to a whole new level...” one commented.

“When you’re the reporter who goes the extra mile to get a comment, even if you don’t expect to get a response,” one wrote, while another person responded with “He may prefer email”.

“He was literally ignoring her,” another chimed in.

“I know you want to rest in peace, but care to comment on this story?” one added.
