3 common travel mistakes to avoid

Exploring the world while you’re on holidays is an undeniably enjoyable experience, but that doesn’t mean you’ve got reason to throw caution to the wind.

As a traveller it’s important to be wary of the risks. We’re going to run through four of the most common travel mistakes and what you need to do to avoid them. By planning ahead you can ensure these mistakes are at worst a slight blip on your holiday radar.

1. Standing out as a tourist

If you’re wandering aimlessly through a busy intersection, wearing a Hawaiian shirt and bum bag containing your travel funds in a handful of local currency and traveller’s cheques, you’re a pickpocket’s dream. Wherever possible, try to dress low key and avoid drawing attention to yourself. The last thing you want to be doing is drawing the ire of locals there to help, and presenting yourself as an easy target to the locals who aren’t.

2. Packing valuables in your check-in luggage

We’ve all made this mistake at some point, and there’s nothing worse than knowing you’re at least eight hours from accessing your valuables as your plane leaves the tarmac. By making sure you avoid packing valuables in your check-in luggage you can be confident that you can access your money passport, medication or important documents the second you have to.

3. Booking your holiday during a high season

Booking your holiday in high season means you’re going to be paying more for every element of your trip. Instead of this, try to book your holidays in quieter, shoulder seasons. Not only will you save money but you might score a discount from hotels and tour guides seeking to attract more business.
