War veteran becomes first $1 million winner on Millionaire Hot Seat

It may have been on the air since 2009, but there’s never been an actual millionaire winner on Millionaire Hot Seat – until now. 67-year-old Vietnam veteran Edwin Daly from South Australia has become the first person to win $1 million on the show.

The episode’s final question certainly had us stumped, but Daly was able to figure it out and claim the top prize. “Commonly known by his nickname, what was the full name of ‘Banjo’ Paterson?” host Eddie McGuire asked. Daly correctly guessed “Andrew Barton,” making Hot Seat history.

“When I saw that question come up, I thought ‘no, too simple’,” the grandfather said. “I gave my mind for this country but by the grace of God I’ve got most of it back.”

When asked of his plans for his newfound wealth, Daly said he would donate ten per cent of his winnings to charity and seek financial advice with what’s left.

Congratulations, Edwin! We’re thrilled that such a deserving man finally won. Tell us in the comments below, what’s the biggest prize you’ve ever won?
