BREAKING: Istanbul airport rocked by explosions

Three explosions have left Turkey’s largest international airport in chaos, with Turkey’s Prime Minister Binali Yildirim confirming that at least 36 people are dead.

Witnesses reported gunshots and the sound of explosions, with the city’s governor attributing the attack to three suicide bombers.

Officials believe that close to 150 people were also wounded in the attacks.

While the “vast majority” of victims are believed to be Turkish nationals, officials have also stated that there are foreigners among the casualties. Istanbul Ataturk is Turkey’s largest airport and a major transport hub for international tourists.

In a statement Turkey's Prime Minister said, "According to assessments so far, 36 people have lost their lives and there were also many wounded."
