Online bullies “bump-shame” pregnant Duchess of Cambridge

No matter your size or shape, being pregnant is an incredible and beautiful thing – particularly when you’re expecting another royal bub!

But the Duchess of Cambridge has found herself the unlikely target of body-shaming bullies after photos of her recent appearance at a Kensington Palace reception were posted to the family’s official Instagram account.

Stepping out in a stunning baby blue lace dress – and very much sporting that pregnancy glow – we thought Kate looked happy, healthy and gorgeous. But it seems some didn’t agree.

“I can't believe she’s prego, she looks too thin,” one commenter wrote. “I thought she was pregnant!?” said another.

Others went as far as speculating she wasn’t even pregnant. “Oh sure she’s pregnant…” one Instagram user said. “She doesn’t look pregnant at all,” another commenter wrote.

Some came to her defence, however, explaining that it was natural for the 35-year-old's frame to be so slim given she had been suffering the debilitating morning sickness condition known as hyperemesis gravidarum, which would have made it difficult to keep food down.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, midwife Lesley Gilchrist warned how damaging these comments and accusations can be for expecting mothers.

“Bump shaming can really damage a woman’s body confidence and cause needless worry and anxiety over the health of their baby,” she explained. “It’s important to remember that the bump size is just the size of the baby’s ‘packaging’ and has no bearing on the size of their baby.”

Tell us in the comments below, what do you think of the bullies’ shock remarks?
