The surprise thing Princess Eugenie can’t do on her wedding day
Today, Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank will say “I do” in St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle.
While the couple’s festival-themed reception and star-studded guest list will make their wedding quite modern, there is one royal protocol that the Queen’s granddaughter can’t escape.
Strict royal etiquette means that Eugenie cannot be late arriving at the chapel later today.
Unlike normal brides who have the freedom to make their grooms wait for them at the altar if they encounter any hiccups getting ready, the ninth-in-line to the throne has set plenty of time to get to her wedding ceremony on time to avoid upsetting the Queen.
Speaking to The Sun, the Queen’s former press spokesman Dickie Arbiter explained: “The Queen doesn’t do late.”
“She does on time and if she has to be late somewhere it will be for a very good reason, that there’s a breakdown somewhere or she’s struck in traffic.”
Out of respect for Her Majesty, her “offspring and the grandchildren don’t arrive late either”.
To ensure the day runs smoothly, every minute of the day has been meticulously planned to avoid causing any delay or frustration.
Jack Brooksbank is set to appear at the ceremony 45 minutes before it commences, while Eugenie and her father Prince Andrew will arrive five minutes prior at 10.55am.
After the traditional church service, the newlyweds will embark on a carriage ride through the streets of Windsor before moving to the Queen’s residence for an afternoon reception at Windsor Castle.
In the evening, there will be a formal sit-down dinner at the Royal Lodge in Windsor, the residence of her parents Andrew and Sarah Ferguson.
The following day, the newlyweds and their friends and family will be enjoying a festival-themed afternoon party.
The elaborate part will feature dodgem cars, funfair rides and plenty of cocktails.
