The hilarious nickname Prince Charles was called at school in Australia
When Prince Charles was just 17 years old, he became just like a normal Aussie school kid, and began to attend the Timbertop campus of Geelong Grammar School in Victoria.
He had recently made the decision to leave the Scottish academy, Gorgonstoun School – the institute his own father, Prince Philip attended as a young boy.
The young prince did not hold the same enthusiasm, regarding it as a “prison,” said royal expert Victoria Arbiter on The Windsor’s podcast.
“He hated it … He was tortured, he was bullied quite a lot by the kids at school… They didn’t hold back.”
But it was the Australian Prime Minister Robert Menzies who presented the idea of the heir coming to Australia to attend the Geelong private school.
Upon transferring, he reportedly loved the new experience and having the freedom to explore the wildlife that surrounded him.
He’d even been given the nickname “bloody pom” by his school friends at Timbertop.
"He talks very fondly of his time in Australia then. He talks about how the Australians just treated him like a normal bloke … he really got a sense of Australian life and for the first time he felt free,” confirmed the royal expert.
