Terri Irwin’s heartbreaking tribute to Steve

Last year marked a decade since the world lost Aussie icon Steve Irwin, but for the late Crocodile Hunter’s wife Terri, it’s still a daily struggle without the love of her life.

Yesterday, on his annual memorial – Steve Irwin Day – the 53-year-old mum-of-two appeared on Sunrise, where she admitted she still thinks about Steve every day.

“I think it’s true of anyone’s grief journey,” Terri said. “You do have a choice, you can kind of curl up in the corner or you can do what they would’ve wanted. For you to be healthy and happy and carrying on with what you are passionate about.”

For Steve, she explained to Sam Armytage and David Koch, those passions were conservation and family.

And Terri thinks her beloved hubby would’ve loved Steve Irwin Day. “[He] would be so excited, not necessarily because he was remembered, he would say to me, ‘I don’t care if I’m remembered as long as my message is.'

“We’re really doing both. We’re carrying on as if he were still here and treasuring everything that he stood for and carrying on with his important legacy.

“I’m very proud to be carrying on where Steve left off and I do miss him every day. But today is a wonderful celebration and I'm really enjoying it.”
