Royal family rocked by tragedy

Queen Maxima of Holland is mourning the loss of her younger sister, Inés Zorreguieta, who was found dead in her apartment in Buenos Aires.

A Dutch government spokesperson has told local news that it is understood the 33-year-old took her life.

Inés, a native Argentinian, worked for the government in Argentina as an official in the Ministry of Social Development.

According to reports, Inés suffered from depression and mental health issues.

The Dutch Royal House communications department confirmed Inés’ death and said the Dutch Queen is “very shocked and very sad” by the loss of her sister.

All of Queen Maxima’s forthcoming events have been cancelled.

It is believed that Maxima’s husband, King Willem-Alexander, will complete next week’s state visit to Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania alone.

Maxima had a close relationship with her younger sister, who was a bridesmaid at her 2002 royal wedding and named godmother to 11-year-old Princess Ariane – the third and youngest daughter of the Dutch royals.

Queen Maxima, 47, married then Dutch Crown Prince Willem-Alexander in 2002 after meeting each other in 1999 during the Seville Spring Fair in Spain.
