Prince Frederik rushes home from Olympics to be with seriously ill father

Denmark’s Crown Prince Frederik has been rushed home to Copenhagen from the Winter Olympics in South Korea to be with his father, Prince Henrik.

Last week, the Danish Royal House revealed that the 83-year-old husband of Queen Margrethe had been diagnosed with a benign tumour, and that his condition has “seriously worsened”.

Frederik, along with his Australian-born wife, Princess Mary, and two of their children reportedly visited the Prince Consort at Rigshospitalet Hospital in Copenhagen on Friday.

It comes less than two weeks after the Prince Consort, who was diagnosed with dementia in September, was hospitalised during a trip to Egypt.

“I know my brother is not well,” Henrik’s brother, Etienne de Monpezat, told Danish newspaper BT. “It seems to be a question of weeks.”

Our thoughts are with the Danish Royal family at this difficult time.
