Meghan Markle did something that Duchess Kate would never do

Prince Harry’s fiancé and royal-to-be Meghan Markle did something on Tuesday that you rarely see royals do, if at all – she hugged a charity worker as they parted way.

The simple gesture caught many by surprise, because British royalty are rarely seen embracing a member of the general public, except if they are children.

The exception, of course, was Prince Harry’s late mother, Princess Diana, who was known for hugging many people she met, particularly patients and workers at hospitals and charities she visited.

Members of the British Royal Family are not supposed to be touched “in a manner that goes beyond a formal handshake”.

Duchess Kate has only been spotted embracing an adult member of the public once, when she met 48-year-old Gwen Wally, whose dream was to be hugged by the Duchess. And that was headline-worthy news.

Meghan, who is due to marry Prince Harry in May, has already proven she’s not going to be your traditional royal.

She and Harry are often seen holding hands on royal duties, which is not against protocol but rarely seen among royal couples, including the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.
