Couple celebrates 63 years together with romantic photoshoot

Wanda and Joe have a love story you just don’t hear these days. Joe was driving in his car when he saw Wanda walking down the street. He pulled over and asked her on a date. They were engaged to be married on December 28th, 1950, and wed two years later.

Their granddaughter, Shalyn Nelson, impressed by their longevity, wanted to give them a special gift to celebrate their everlasting love.

“I knew I wanted to create something special, and celebrate what true love was to me. And that for me, was my grandparents,” Nelson told BuzzFeed.

As part of the photo series, Shalyn asked her grandparents to write each other love letters to read out loud to each other.

Joe’s read: “I love you as much today as the day I married you. And just think, the license only cost $2… The best bargain I ever made.”

The photo shoot is part of an ongoing project called Love, The Nelsons which the talented young photographer began to celebrate old love.

“I’m ready to show lovers around the world that true love still exists,” Nelson pledges. “There are so many love stories that we don’t know of out there waiting to be shared.”
