8 signs you’re ready to retire right now

If you’ve been putting off retirement for fear of being bored or simply not having a regular stream of income, you’re not alone. However, given that retirement has actually been found to make people happier, it may be time to rethink the delay. Still stuck? Here are 8 signs you’re ready to retire today.

  1. You constantly daydream at work – Wouldn’t it be nice to win the lottery? Or travel the world with your partner? While everyone daydreams, if you find your little fantasies are distracting you from work, it might be time to leave and go after those dreams for real.
  2. You’re jealous of your retired friends – If you’re the only one in your friend group still working, you might feel a bit left out hearing about all the free time your mates have.
  3. You have a countdown to your retirement – Trying to stave off retirement until a certain age? You’d be surprised how many people use countdown apps and calendars to track their progress towards that happy day.
  4. You live for the weekend – Do you get giddy by the time Friday rolls around? We’ve all been there, but if you find you begin to dread going back on Monday, it might be time to consider giving work the boot.
  5. You can afford it – Are you keeping a close eye on your finances? More importantly, do you know exactly how much you need to retire? You may have already reached the threshold and not even know it!
  6. You already have your retirement life planned out – Do you know how you’ll spend your retired years? For most people, retirement is the first time in decades that they can finally pursue their hobbies and passions.
  7. You have a strong support network – Transitioning to retirement can be a massive emotional upheaval. Ask yourself – do you have a network of friends and family that can help ensure the process is smooth sailing?
  8. The pros outweigh the cons – If you’re like me, there’s nothing better than a nice, logical pros and cons list to sort out a problem. Write down the pros and cons of retiring now and you may be surprised at which list is longer.
