Great-grandma celebrates 60th anniversary in her original wedding dress

Eighty-year-old Janith Goedde surprised her family by wearing her wedding gown to celebrate her 60th anniversary.

She purchased the dress six decades ago for only US$69.

Her granddaughter, Alison Goedde, uploaded a photo of her beaming grandmother in the lace gown to Twitter.

Alison wrote, “My grandma is 80, she just celebrated 60 years with her man, AND she fits in her wedding dress.”

Janith was ecstatic that she still fit into the dress for the special occasion.

"I've lost 40 pounds. And it shows," she told ABC News. "Everybody comments to me on it. When we came home that evening, one of the girls said, 'I bet she can still get in her wedding gown. Where's it at?' I told them where it was in the attic and they went up there and got it. So I had to put it on."

To celebrate their special anniversary, the couple gathered with over 60 family members at a nearby inn.

Janith’s husband, Joe, didn’t want an extravagant celebration but he was happy to see his family to come together to see his beautiful wife.

"She still looks beautiful," said Joe Goedde.

The couple married in 1957 in Indiana on a sunny day. Janith claims there are two secrets to her long-lasting relationship with Joe.

"Communication and prayer," she said. "We're looking forward to more anniversaries, but we'll take what comes. We'll stick it out together."
