The true reason Oprah and Stedman never married
Television host Oprah Winfrey has revealed the real reason why she never married her boyfriend, Stedman Graham, even after 31 years together as a couple.
The 63-year-old media personality touched on the issue in the upcoming September issue of Vogue, when she was asked about the lessons she learned from being in a long-term relationship with someone, without actually tying the knot.
“Live life on your own terms,” she said.
Winfrey elaborated, explaining the topic of marriage had really only come up once, when she asked her partner what would happen if they actually did get married.
“We wouldn’t be together,” he responded.
“We would not have stayed together, because marriage requires a different way of being in this world. His interpretation of what it means to be a husband and what it would mean for me to be a wife would have been pretty traditional, and I would not have been able to fit into that,” Winfrey said.
Winfrey and Graham seem content to live their lives as boyfriend and girlfriend rather than husband and wife.
