The surprising person set to give Meghan Markle away at the royal wedding

With her dad and half-brother reportedly not invited to her big day, Meghan Markle is set to enlist a rather unexpected person to walk her down the aisle – her soon-to-be brother-in-law, Prince William.

Meghan, who will tie the knot with Prince Harry on May 19 at St. George’s Chapel in the grounds of Windsor Castle, chose not to invite her father Thomas Markle Sr or half-brother Thomas Markle Jr, according to the Daily Star.

“I think it is because he just can’t seem to keep his mouth shut,” an insider told the newspaper. “If he would quit talking to the media, Meghan would probably be more into the idea of inviting him.”

It’s likely Thomas Jr’s criminal history also put an end to any intentions the royal family had of inviting him. The 51-year-old has been arrested twice in the last 18 months, once for a drunken fight with his fiancée Darlene Blount and once for aiming a gun at her.

A second Daily Star report suggests Meghan’s dad, Thomas Sr, has also failed to make the guest list.

“Meghan said that she would prefer to have her mum with her as she is much closer to her than her dad,” an insider told the paper.

“She’s also worried about how he would handle it as he’s become even more of a recluse. Not to mention the fact that there has been some bad blood between Harry and Thomas after Harry made comments about her finally getting the family she never had.”

However, the palace was reportedly not onboard with Meghan’s suggestion that her mother, Doria Ragland, could walk her down the aisle instead of her male relatives.

“The royals understand why Meghan might prefer to have her mother, but it’s not exactly traditional to have a woman walk a bride down the aisle. Some of the royals aren’t happy about the idea, so they suggested that William do it.”
