The best gift I ever received

There’s nothing quite like gifts. On the one hand, they can be difficult to buy, unwanted and poorly thought out, but on the other hand, gifts can be so perfect that they stick with the recipient for life. A couple of months ago, we asked you, the Over60 community, to share the best gift you ever received, and you definitely delivered.

1. “Well the best present I can remember having, I was about eight or nine. I came home from school and my mother had bought me a packet of coloured chalk – I was so excited. I know that seems trivial but as a child in the late 40s, to me it was wonderful.” – Judy Schultz

2. “Life’s best present would be my beautiful identical twin daughters who have given me 4 amazing grandchildren.” – Margaret Longstaff Pomerenke

3. “My 6-year-old grandson gave me a voucher for a hug that I can reuse any time I need one. He’s nine now and I’m still collecting.” – Lyn Anderson

4. “My oncologist telling me I was cancer-free after 5 years.” – Leonie Walker

5. “My best present was from three of my grandchildren when I turned 60. They gave me a glass jar, all decorated, and inside was 60 pieces of paper saying why they loved me. I take one out and read it and it makes me feel so loved.” – Glynis Maskiell

6. “Best present ever was my daughter surprising me for my 60th by flying down from Darwin! She originally told me she wouldn't be able to be there! Seeing her standing in front of me was fantastic.” – Helen Scalora

7. “When I was a kid in the 1950s we didn't have much money. My uncle made me a fort (cowboys and Indians) out of plywood. I thought it was magnificent!” – Norm Powell

8. “Life is a gift. My family is a gift. Friends are a gift. Health is a gift. So enjoy them while you have them.” – Marilyn Puckeridge
