Sarah Ferguson reveals hopes of becoming a grandmother after royal wedding

Sarah Ferguson is excited about the prospect of becoming a grandmother after her daughter Princess Eugenie ties the knot.

In a rare TV interview on The One Show on Friday, the 58-year-old Duchess of York, who divorced Prince Andrew in 1996 after having two children together, spoke about her eldest daughter’s upcoming nuptials, revealing wedding plans are well under way.

“Eugenie is very controlled – she is so sorted. She knows exactly what she wants,” she said.

"Jack and Eugenie are very contemporary, they are very inclusive, and they are all about love, and they want this wedding to be about that – to include everybody and to really absorb the love they have for each other with everybody else."

When asked what kind of a grandmother she think she would be, Fergie instantly responded: “Excellent – I used to write children’s books, and I am a child, I haven’t grown up.”

The doting mother also revealed that she may weep on the day, as the emotional weight of seeing her daughter married hits her.

“I do understand why mothers cry at weddings now. All my life I thought ‘oh, what’s she crying for’? It’s lovely, it’s a great day,” she said.

The Duchess of York was on the BBC programmed to raise awareness for two of her charities: Street Child and Children in Crisis.
