The royal family’s secret dress code

The royals continually inspire the masses with their classic and elegant wardrobe choices.

Prince George continually shows off how adorable he is with his various pairs of shorts and Prince William always opts for a pair of chinos.

While some might be left assuming the royals have eccentric fashion tastes, protocol heavily influences what the royal family wear.

Prince George’s trend of wearing shorts follows British tradition of boys wearing gowns until they were old enough to wear shorts. This tradition developed because trousers were seen as common on boys.

Prince William is always seen in trousers due to his busy schedule and the need for him to be able to enter all venues – something he could not do if he was wearing shorts or jeans.

On the rare occasion, if William and Kate are performing “everyday” duties such as walking the dog, they can be spotted in a pair of jeans.

The Queen’s bright and bold selection of hats have become a trademark aspect of her style. Dress code etiquette states that women wear hats for formal events.

An old rule also dictates that royal women should not wear hats indoors after 6 pm because that is when the ladies change into evening dresses and tiaras. Flashy diamonds and tiaras are only worn in the evening and only married women wear tiaras.

The Queen is always spotted sporting a pair of gloves but they serve multiple purposes for her. Not only do they keep her fingers warm while she waves to the masses but it also helps protects her from germs while she performs her duties of greeting people and shaking their hands.

All germaphobes would be thankful for protocol that stops you from being subject to germs.
