Princess Mary’s children look so grown up as they celebrate Queen Margrethe’s birthday
She lost her husband of 50 years Prince Henrik two months ago, but Denmark's Queen Margrethe drew on the support of her family on Monday as she celebrated her 78th birthday.
The Danish Queen smiled and waved to the adoring crowd from the balcony of Amalienborg Palace. She was surrounded by her family, including son Prince Joachim, his wife Princess Marie, and their two children; Prince Henrik, eight, and six-year-old Princess Athena.
Prince Nikolai – Joachim's 18-year-old son with his first wife, Alexandra Christina, Countess of Frederiksborg – was also present, along with the former couple's 15-year-old, Prince Felix.
Crown Prince Fredrik was not in attendance but Crown Princess Mary, and their four children, Christian, 12, Isabella, 10, and seven-year-old twins Josephine and Vincent were all at their mother's side.
