Massive echidna survives being clipped by a car
A massive Tasmanian echidna who was clipped by a car has been treated and released.
The egg-laying mammal, named Eleanor, was brought into Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary in Hobart after being clipped on the road.
Staff at the sanctuary said the female echidna had a couple of minor bruises from the incident.
“Echidnas do pretty well,” Bonorong Sanctuary owner Greg Irons told nine.com.au. “We do get a lot of them. A lot of dog attacks. Not as many hit by cars.”
Irons said she was the largest echidna he had ever seen, weighing 4.7kg.
According to the Tasmanian government, short-beaked echidnas generally grow up to 45cm in length and 5kg in weigh.
