A look back at the fashion of A Place to Call Home and Love Child

It’s no secret that we here at Over60 are huge fans of TV period dramas. From worldwide hits such as Downton Abbey and Call the Midwife to homegrown favourites like A Place to Call Home and Love Child, we simply can’t get enough of them.

But it’s not just the gripping storylines and multi-faceted characters that keep us coming back for more – it’s their ability to stir up that nostalgic feeling and completely transport us to another time with stunning costume design.

From the cinched-waists, tea-length skirts and perfectly coiffed hair characteristic of the 1950s (as seen in A Place to Call Home) to the go-go boots, short shorts and wild-print shift dresses of the ‘60s and ‘70s (perfectly captured in Love Child), we simply adore the stunning fashions from both shows.

While Love Child sadly came to an end with its fourth season, we’re eagerly awaiting the next season of A Place to Call Home, which is set to air later this year with Season 5 releasing on DVD in March.

In the meantime, join us as we celebrate the iconic retro styles from these two beloved shows. Scroll through the gallery above to see some of the programs’ best looks and tell us in the comments below, what’s your favourite period TV series?

A Place to Call Home S1-4 and Love Child S1-4 is available on DVD.
