3 natural ways to remove body hair
No matter how old we are, body hair is something everyone is conscious of. Whether for comfort or aesthetic reasons, sometimes there’s nothing better than the feeling of smooth, hair-free skin. The good news is you don’t need harsh chemicals or painful devices to achieve that feeling – just a few household staples.
1. Gelatin face mask
Gelatin is good for more than just making desserts – it’s perfect for removing facial hair.
Ingredients:
- 1 tbsp unflavoured gelatin
- 1 1/2 tbsp milk
- 1 – 2 drops lavender oil
- Popsicle stick
Method:
- Mix all the ingredients in a microwave-safe bowl.
- Microwave for 10-15 seconds.
- Once cool enough to touch, spread on the skin using the popsicle stick. You’ll need to be quick as it sets fast.
- Wait until the mask dried, then peel off.
2. Turmeric
More than just a superfood, turmeric can work wonders removing body hair. But, a word of warning – it will turn your skin slightly yellow. Only temporarily, of course! Soap and bicarb soda will have you looking good as new in no time. Plus, not only does it remove fine hair (you may struggle with thicker hair), but turmeric inhibits growth, too.
Ingredients:
- Turmeric powder
- Milk
Method:
- Using a 3:1 ratio of turmeric to milk, mix the ingredients together until they form a thick paste.
- Spread the paste onto your skin in the same direction as the hair grows and let dry.
- Using a dry towel, scrub your skin in a circular motion, removing the paste.
- Repeat every few days.
3. Sugar wax
This beauty method has been used by Middle Eastern women for centuries, and you’re about to find out why.
Ingredients:
- 1 cup sugar (white or brown)
- 2 tbsp water
- 1 1/2 tbsp lemon juice
- 1 tsp salt (optional)
Method:
- In a saucepan, add all the ingredients and simmer on a low heat until it thickens and turns golden brown.
- Stir until all the sugar has dissolved and the mixture takes on a syrupy consistency – but be careful not to let it burn.
- Once it turns a darker brown, take it off the heat and let cool for a few minutes.
- Apply the wax in the opposite direction of the hair growth and voila.
- The wax is also reusable, so wrap in in plastic and put it in the fridge – just heat it for 10 seconds in the microwave when needed next.
