Sarah Ferguson’s post-surgery update

Sarah Ferguson has shared a post-surgery update on the latest episode of her podcast, following her shock cancer diagnosis last month.

The Duchess of York had a mastectomy at the King Edward VII's Hospital in late June after doctors discovered that she had breast cancer.

"I am so lucky, so lucky and I feel really supported," the Duchess said on Tea Talks with the Duchess & Sarah, which she hosts with her close friend and entrepreneur Sarah Thomson.

She also shared how grateful she was and the life-changing impact the surgery has made.

"There is so much kindness out there. I feel so grateful to this extraordinary operation.

"It's with me every day and I am really grateful because it keeps reminding me to do what I wish to do which is to bring more joy, more kindness, more positivity to the world, through this podcast."

Her positive thinking did not fade as she opened about recovering at the Royal Lodge in Windsor, where she lives with her ex-husband, Prince Andrew.

"Every time I think to myself, 'Oh my goodness, this is kind of wonderful, soon I might be able to wear a dress without a bra – that would be a first, I'd love that',” she said.

"I think to myself, 'Make the most of today, Sarah. I live every minute of the day, I take mini-steps, mini-steps to heal."

Doctors found the cancer after a routine mammogram, and the Duchess almost immediately took action by undergoing a single mastectomy and a breast reconstruction, just days after the diagnosis.

She said that the diagnosis and operation has "made me more bold, it's made me more courageous, to do this podcast, to say what I feel".
