Pro surfer Mick Fanning’s heroic act

Surfing legend Mick Fanning braved dangerous floodwaters to assist a pharmacist to open her shop and provide residents with their much-needed medication.

Forty-year-old Fanning didn’t think twice when Skye Swift – one half of local pharmacy outfit Varella and Swift – put a call out on Facebook for a ride from Tweed into Murwillumbah, in northern NSW, to help hand out medicine to members of the community.

Fanning jumped onto his jet ski and made his way to Swift and was met with others ready to help.

“In a collective effort she arrived at her pharmacy with the assistance of two men in a tinny, several 4WDs and also on the back of world champion Mick Fanning’s jet ski,’ Swift’s brother Anthony told Nine News.

“That’s community spirit for you.”

Swift took to Facebook and thanked the local community for their help.

“I made it to Varela & Swift Pharmacy thanks to the fb community. Open til 5 pm for urgent supplies,” she wrote.

“There may be a wait so thanks for your patience. If your scripts are at another pharmacy, that’s no problem. We can help.”
