Olympic hopeful killed at just 25

Japanese triathlete Tsudoi Miyazaki has died at the age of 25.

The Olympic hopeful was riding her bike in Orleans, a city in France when she was struck by a car on Wednesday.

“World Triathlon and the Japan Triathlon Union want to offer our deepest condolences to Ms. Miyazaki family, friends, coaches and teammates,” a statement from World Triathlon read.

“The thoughts of all the Triathlon Family are with you all in these terrible times.”

French police are continuing their investigation into the horrific death with details yet to be released. 

Japan Triathlon Union has also sent out extra resources to assist the police with the investigation. 

The 25-year-old was ranked 142nd in the women’s World Triathlon Rankings.

Before her tragic death, she was hoping to win some medals at both the 2024 Paris Olympics and the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

She had also won the ​​Japan U23 Triathlon Championships in 2019. 

Her final race was on Sunday at the World Cup race in Pontevedra, Spain where she finished in 50th place.
