Heartbreaking news for Elton John
Last night, Elton John announced his mum’s death in a heartbreaking Twitter post saying he is “in shock”.
His 92-year-old mother Sheila Farebrother passed away just months after Elton John reconnected with her after a nine-year feud.
The 70-year-old musician tweeted, “So sad to say that my mother passed away this morning. I only saw her last Monday and I am in shock. Travel safe Mum. Thank you for everything. I will miss you so much. Love, Elton”
In May, Elton John shared a photo of himself and his mum in celebration of her birthday.
He captioned the picture, “Dear Mum, Happy Mother’s Day! So happy we are back in touch.”
The feud between Elton John and his mother started over a disagreement over her maintaining friendships with his former staff members.
Sheila told the Daily Mail that he asked her to cut off two of her oldest friends who had contributed to Elton John’s early success, Bob Halley and John Reid
She said, “Then to my utter amazement, he told me he hated me. And he banged the phone down. Imagine. To me, his mother.”
John then failed to appear at his stepdad’s funeral in 2010 and Sheila continued the feud by hiring an Elton John tribute act for her 90th birthday party.
The significant birthday is reportedly the first time Elton John got in touch with his mum for the first time in seven years, sending her white orchids.
It is believed that the pair reconciled after John suffered from a serious bacterial infection in April after falling ill on a flight to the UK from Chile.
Last month, Elton John released a new collection of his greatest hits on an album titled Diamonds.
