David Attenborough opens up about his health fears

He has one of the most recognisable voices in the world and is perhaps the most beloved presenter on television, but Sir David Attenborough has the same fears as the rest of us.

The 91-year-old documentarian has opened up like never before in an interview with Stylist magazine about his worries for the future. “I’m scared of becoming an appalling encumbrance on my children,” he confessed.

The comments come just weeks after another candid interview with fellow doco maker Louis Theroux for Radio Times, in which he revealed he thinks about his mortality “all the time”. “It’s more and more likely that I’m going to die tomorrow.”

He also spoke of his regret for spending so little time with his family when they were young. “If you have a child of six or eight and you miss three months of his or her life, it’s irreplaceable,” he said. “You miss something. Perhaps you can’t have your cake and eat it.”
